Gym or no gym, that is the question
DropWt4Life replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have worked out (free weights and cardio) 4-6 times per week for at least 3 or 4 years straight with very few exceptions (vacations). I find that working out does definitely increase appetite. However, if you are consuming enough calories, you will continue to lose weight. The original question was about exercising the first 6 months after surgery. I am only 2 weeks post op, and consume between 5-650 calories per day. Walking is fine, but that is just not enough yet to do a serious workout. It isn't a matter of having a stall, it is a matter of passing out that I am worried about. Plus, I don't want an increased appetite to cause me to eat more than my body is ready for at this time. We can workout for the remainder of our lives. Right now, it should really be about healing and listening to our bodies. If you feel that you can sustain a 700 calorie burn workout day after day on just 800 calories, go ahead. I think most doctors would advise against it though. -
One week! Is this really happening?!
DropWt4Life replied to Smooter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sandra, Sounds like you are doing everything correctly. I agree with The New Kel. Try to add in a little broth here and there between the protein shakes and dinner. This will ensure that you never feel hungry. Anyway, 1 week is cake. You can do it. Just picture the rest of your life, and the happiness you will feel after making this decision. Do that once per day. Positivity works wonders on your mind-set. Good luck on your journey! -
My Doctor prescribed me omeprazole (Prilosec generic). I guess it is really working since I have had no issues since surgery. You can get it OTC.

Surgery tomorrow- do I need a plug in adaptor for my electronics?
DropWt4Life replied to Kennalb's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I didn't need one. Had surgery on 8/7/2017 in Tijuana, Mexico. The outlets worked just fine with my IPhone. -
I will second GBLADY41's critique of BariatricPal MX and Dr. Illan. I was sleeved on 8/7/2017. It was awesome, and the charge was only $4,600. I received the best care ever at Oasis of Hope Hospital. I can not emphasize enough the value and piece of mind that I felt knowing that everything was taken care of for me. All I had to do was fill out an online questionnaire, pay a $500 down payment to hold my surgery spot, and show up at the San Diego Airport. Bariatric Pal MX and Dr. Illan both receive an A+ from me on everything. Give them a try. You will not be sorry!

I would say to follow your doctor's order. Eggs might be fine, but there might be a specific reason why he/she doesn't want you to have them. After all, a liquid diet is a LIQUID diet. I did an all liquid diet for 4 weeks, and I was fine. I think that you will find that if you are consuming protein shakes at least 2-3 times daily, sipping on broths, and snacking on yogurts, popsicles and jello, you won't really get hungry. You will also lose lots of weight before surgery. You should be on day 4 now with 6 days left to go. You can do it.

Day after surgery day I'm hungry, is this normal?
DropWt4Life replied to Kennalb's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Did you have to do a liquid diet the week before? The reason that I ask is because if you did not have to do a liquid or pre-op diet (low carb) designed to shrink the liver, you may feel hunger because you are not in ketosis. Normally, when you enter ketosis, you kind of lose a lot of your appetite. I was on a liquid diet for basically 4 weeks (2 weeks pre-op, and 2 weeks post-op), and I was never hungry at all. Either way, everyone is different. Don't feel like a failure just because you are experiencing hunger. Just follow your doctor's instructions, and please don't eat anything that can jeopardize your sleeve or health. You will be fine. -
Good job! I am so envious of you! I also had a clear liquid diet for the first week. Couldn't even have protein shakes until the second week (Full Liquid stage). It was basically broth, water, g2, and propel zero for a week. Remember to sip on liquids all day, and good luck on your journey!

premier protein water, tropical punch - anyone tried?
DropWt4Life replied to Miss Topaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the Isopure protein drinks are nasty. Too thick, and the texture grosses me out. I did Premier Protein shakes (banana, chocolate and vanilla) during my Liquid phase (both pre and post op). Although I am tired of them now, they got me through. Whatever you choose, it is only temporary. Just get whatever you can stand. You might find that after surgery, your tastes will change. Whatever you like now might not be palatable after surgery. Good luck! -
Serious about MEXICO but many questions and concerns
DropWt4Life replied to Kristi Jacobs's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Bariatric Pal Team MX with Dr. Illan is excellent! I paid $500 dp with Paypal, and the balance the day after surgery with a cashiers' check. The valets, doctors, and nursing staff are awesome! I never got charged for anything else, although nurses were in about every few hours adding anti-nausea, pain killer, anti-gas medications to my IV up til the morning of my discharge. I never felt any nausea or pain (except for gas pain) the entire trip. I had a private room with a sofa bed for my companion. All nurses spoke English. Netflix was on the TV, and WIFI is included as well. The care that I received there by far exceeded any care that I've ever received in the US. The EKG, bloodwork, chest Xrays were all done within 1 1/2 hours of being admitted to the hospital. I was up walking within 2 hours of being taken out of recovery. After the 2 days in the hospital, my companion and I spent 1 night in a hotel/casino. The valets took us and the other 3 patients shopping in the shopping district of Tijuana. Dr. Illan only does 4 surgeries per day. Some surgeons that I researched did up to 10 per day. I was worried about my surgeon being tired after so many surgeries, so I wanted one that performed as few daily as possible. Anyway, I had reservations about having surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. It was completely safe and FUN. My companion was in awe. He couldn't believe the care that WE BOTH received, and told me that he is surprised that they could perform this service for so cheap. Good luck in choosing a doctor and facility, but you will not be sorry if you go with Bariatric Pal Team MX and Dr. Illan. -

Joining The Losers Bench

Good Luck! I know you will be successful, and everything will go smoothly! -
1st off, Congratulations on the beginning of your journey! I was also sleeved on August 7th. I am not allowed to lift more than 15 pounds for 4 weeks. I think that you should consult with your doctor, but walking is more than enough to facilitate weight loss at this stage. I lifted weights 4X per week before surgery, and it is killing me to abstain from it for that long, but I don't want to risk hurting myself. Please take your time. Good luck, and God bless!

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
DropWt4Life replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week post-op today. Gas pains are gone. I didn't need any blood thinners. Dealing with constipation after 3 week liquid diet. Can't wait til I can have puréed foods next week. My first meal will probably be puréed peas mixed with puréed tuna or salmon. Good luck in surgery! -

I was required a 1 week liquid diet. Did 1 week clean eating diet followed by a 2 week liquid diet. Did a green protein shake in the mornings to help avoid constipation. 1 small frozen banana, 1 1/2 cups frozen spinach, 1 cup water, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 2 tbsp of flax seeds, 1 banana Premier Protein shake, 1tbsp PB Fit peanut butter, 4 ice cubes. Blended this in a nutri ninja. Provided a thick delicious shake every morning that kept me full til mid afternoon. (39g Protein/10.5 Fiber) The morning shake made about 33 oz. I drank 1/2 early morning, and the other half before lunch. I then followed up with 1 Premier Protein shake (30g Protein) around 3-4 pm, and 16 oz. chicken bone broth (18g Protein) at around 7 pm. After that, maybe a sugar free jello or popsicle for snack around 9pm. This kept me content all day every day, although I admit I had to doctor up the bone broth. Got tired of the same flavor. I lost 23 pounds during pre-op liquid diet, and didn't feel hungry or constipated. (I only lost 2 pounds clean eating the first week for a total of 25 pounds in 3 weeks.)

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
DropWt4Life replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to hydrate for the first week, and allowed propel, g2, vitamin water zero, or crystal light additive for water to help me get at least 64 oz. in everyday. You don't want to get dehydrated, and hydration is more important than protein for the first week as lack of protein for 1 week will not land you in the emergency room. I hope this helps. -
why did i bother to tell my friends UGH
DropWt4Life replied to sassy683's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm willing to bet that they would have all been for it if you were having a boob job or tummy tuck instead....But since you are doing something to improve your health and quality of life, nobody wants you to do it. Well, screw them! This is your life, and your journey. A true friend would want you to be healthy and happy. Do what you need to do for yourself, and everybody that has an issue can just kick rocks! -
You look great! You have lost 1/4 of your body weight in only 4 months! Keep up the good work. Don't stress out. You will get where you want to be as long as you keep trusting in your doctor's program. Good luck with those final kgs!

I agree with Berry78. Do not feel ashamed of not being able to lose and keep the weight off. Millions of people are going through the same thing. That is why the weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Have this surgery, and keep your head up. With this tool, you will lose weight and keep it off...Keep telling yourself that, because your self talk is an important tool as well. Good luck on your journey.
