Stalls are such jerks!
DropWt4Life replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, STALLS SUCK! I have had 2 already at 3 and 6 weeks out. We still lose inches on those stalls anyway, so that is nice. You look great! Keep up the hard work! -
Let's Play A Round Of: How I Get My Protein Post WLS!
DropWt4Life replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I can eat about a 1/2 cup total if 3 ounces of it is dense protein, but I could probably hold down closer to 2/3 cup of salad, veggies or grains. -
Let's Play A Round Of: How I Get My Protein Post WLS!
DropWt4Life replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'll play as well. I'll be 9 weeks post-op on Monday, and have no eating restrictions. B: 2 egg whites + 1 Morningstar Farms Veggie Sausage +1/4 oz. shredded cheddar + 1/4 cup spinach (215cals, 12g fat, 2 Net Carbs, 22g P) MS: 2/3 packet of Quaker Weight Control oatmeal + 2Tbsp Hemp Seeds (210 cals, 11g fat, 17g Net Carbs, 12g P) L: 3 oz. grilled salmon + 1/4 cup steamed spinach (140 cals, 7g fat, 0g Net Carbs, 17g P) AS: 1/4 cup 2% Milkfat Cottage Cheese + 1/4 cup peaches in water with no added sugar (65 cals, 1.5g fat, 8g Net Carbs, 6g P) D: 1/3 cup black beans + 1/4 cup of quinoa (175 cals, 2g fat, 26g Net Carbs, 9g P) ES: Premier Protein pre-mixed shake (160cals, 3g fat, 3 Net Carbs, 30g P) Daily Totals: (965 calories, 36.5g fat, 56g Net Carbs, 96g Protein) Sorry, had to add in the Premier Protein shake. Would top out at 66g Protein without it. -
Congratulations on reaching the "chewing stage". i couldn't wait to actually chew something by that stage. As another poster said, I prefer egg whites as well. I have been eating them that way for years, so I guess I'm just used to them. It can get expensive though, and it does bother me to waste the yolks. I get farm fresh, organic, cage and antibiotic free from a friend for $2 a dozen, so that is definitely a plus.

Three month stall, but....
DropWt4Life replied to monalyssa33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations monalyssa33 on accomplishing so much in a very short period of time. You are truly an inspiration. Keep up the hard work, and good luck on your date tonight. I hope everything goes well for you. -
That is a good amount of weight in 3 weeks. You might have entered your first (not your last) stall. I lost 15 pounds by 3 weeks as well. Then I hit my first stall. It lasted a week, and then I started losing again. I am only down 38 pounds in 8 weeks after going through 2 stalls at 3 and 6 weeks. No problem with that as I dropped 25 pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet. I have also been lifting weights for the last 3 weeks, and feel that my body is responding. There are several people in this forum that lost more than 40 pounds their first month post-op, but they might have had a lot more weight and/or fat to lose than I did. Anyway, don't rush it. Your body will lose the weight at its own speed. Anyone other than a WLS patient would be ecstatic to lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks. Stick to your plan, and you will be successful.

Dr. Mario Almanza, Green And Health Hospital
DropWt4Life replied to srayon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It doesn’t make any sense because she didn’t say that. I think that you are reading what you want to read, and not what users are actually posting....And I think you mean “his infinite mind”, and not “his finite mind”. I’ll let you look up the definitions of the two. Cray-Cray! -

Congratulations! I was so excited when I finally made it to that stage. I think my first meal was a huge (1/2 cup) vat of pureed sweet peas. My little baby niece and nephew had nothing on me. LOL

Funny how you are a personal friend, and yet your second post in the thread tells her where and when you are having surgery as if she didn’t know. Also funny is that Alex Beecher urged against using Dr. A in the beginning, and yet you gave him a thumbs up. Hmmmm. Can Dr. A be offering a refer a friend - get yours free special? LOL! -
If you click your username in the top left of the page, and then click 'My Surgery', you can change your surgery type there.

It is no use trying to reason with her. She attacked me simply because I told the OP to do her due diligence. You can give links to articles and actual news interviews, but they mean nothing. Obviously, her mind is made up, and that is okay. I mean her no ill-will, and I hope that she has a successful outcome nonetheless. -
I am wondering why they would want to re-sleeve you instead of possibly doing a GB conversion. That seems to be the next logical step. I have read that you shouldn't re-sleeve as your stomach has already been cut open and there is a lot greater chance of complications from staple line leaks. I am sure there is literature out there that supports both sides though. Have you tried to go back to basics? Protein, veggies, grains and fruit only with 0 processed foods? I think the hardest thing is getting rid of processed and junk foods once you have started eating a lot of them again. If you fell off of the wagon, get back on track. You have gained 61 pounds overall, and I think you can lose it without having another surgery. You should still have some restriction there. Incidentally, your profile says that you had Lap-Band and not VSG. Did you change surgery types at the last minute, or did you actually have Lap-Band? I am sorry that you are once again having to weigh options. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

Head hunger leads me to look in the fridge at least daily. Luckily for me, I have some very low calorie snacks to chomp on when it happens. Laughing Cow cheese with raw celery, broccoli or carrots normally gets me through and normally gives me some good nourishment at the same time. I don't look in the pantry, because that is where the Processed Food Monster lives. LOL

KateBruin, I was taking Prilosec 1X daily for my stomach acid. I started taking a TBSP of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother 2X daily about 4 weeks ago, and it really helped with controlling my stomach acid. My mom actually told me to try it as she used to suffer from acid reflux. I stopped taking the Prilosec about 3 weeks ago, and haven't needed it since. Maybe it could work for you. It might be at least worth a try as long term use of PPIs can come with lots of nasty side effects.

Clear Fast product - how many of you used this before surgery
DropWt4Life replied to Sosewsue61's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have never heard of Clearfast before, but I couldn't have it anyway. My instructions were nothing by mouth after midnight the day before surgery. I wonder if this is approved for bariatric patients though as I didn't see anything about it being good for stomach surgeries. I will say though that everyone that had surgery with me had hydration issues, and inserting the IV was harder. I ended up having surgery at around 4pm, and hadn't had anything to drink since probably 10 o'clock the night before. Had I known what I know now, I would have had at least some water that morning as my stomach would have definitely been emptied in plenty of time before surgery. Even my surgeon said that it would have been okay. They just have to tell you that, because some people go overboard with it. -
When do you stop losing?
DropWt4Life replied to mustanglauri's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How long have you been at the same weight? How much do you weigh and how much have you lost? These are important to know before providing a suggestion. For instance, you might have lost 100 pounds in 5 months, and now you have been in a stall for the last week or so. You might have lost 40 pounds in 3 months, and now you have stalled for the past 2 months. Each of the scenarios above would probably bring different advice from the community. It would also help to know whether or not your eating habits have changed over the last month or two. -
Full Fat Mayo, cottage cheese, and yogurt
DropWt4Life replied to Nancy MBGC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't tend to add mayo to my foods, because I really don't need to. I actually like tuna with a little lemon pepper and that is it...No salt either. I can eat it right out of the pouch. I don't like yogurt either, so I don't eat that at all. I love cottage cheese though. I prefer the 2% milkfat version though, but only because it is more palatable to me. I only eat it every long once in a while, so it probably doesn't even make a difference either way. I don't eat low carb at all. I eat whatever I want, but within reason. I am pretty disciplined, and don't crave garbage. I can eat so little that I would rather fill my stomach with real food. Not processed food, but not super fatty food either. I love vegetables and ancient grains (quinoa, millet, buckwheat, etc.). I also love salmon and tuna. Chicken and turkey are okay, but I don't really care for pork or red meat. I also eat egg whites a couple of times per week. I do get my fats from fish, an occasional chicken or turkey breast, avocados, some cheese (cottage, pepperjack or cheddar), nuts, flax, hemp and chia seeds, and an occasional dose of olive and/or coconut oil. There is tons of conflicting information out there, and the food and beverage industry loves that. At my kid's school, pepperoni pizza is considered okay as it is a grain, a vegetable, a milk product and a meat. They do offer salads and fresh fruit as well, which is a plus, but most don't get those. I tell my daughter that balance is important. If you eat the pizza, have a salad first. Then if you still want the pizza, have it. Either eat the fresh fruit, or wrap it up, and take it for snack later. She can use the added carbs as she is an athlete. -
Heart burn?/ chest pain? Right after surgery!
DropWt4Life replied to skycicle28's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think that heartburn is a real problem for a lot of people after surgery. Did your surgeon put you on Prilosec (Omeprazole) after surgery? I received medication for acid reflux in my IV for the entire time that I was in the hospital, and I never had any issues. I was on a course of Omeprazole for about a month afterward, and never had issues. I started having issues after I stopped. Coffee and spicy foods were the worst. I started taking a Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother every morning, stopped eating spicy foods, and that seemed to have done the trick. I haven't had any issues in a few weeks, and haven't needed to lean on the medication. If you are not on a PPI, you can get it over the counter for a reasonable price. Otherwise, you should probably consult with your doctor as there might be underlying issues. I hope you feel better soon. -

First of all, I did not quote anyone so I don't know what you are talking about. I thought I would give you a news report. Dr. Almanza denies everything, and says that all complainants have been paid off, but whatever. http://www.10news.com/news/team-10/team-10-doctor-accused-of-injuring-and-killing-patients-shares-his-story I am glad your life is in the hands of your Savior. I just wanted to say...again....Good Luck with your surgery. I hope everything works out for you. -

mw2543....Yes, it is a statement from me. I can tell that you are heavily invested in having surgery with this doctor, and that is okay. I don't have a problem with him in the least. I can do research as well, and I have seen complaints where former patients have accused him of causing injury to them. I have also heard of patients that have died. Whether or not you think these are lies, my question is Why would you take a chance? There is no way in hell that I would put my life in a doctor's hands while he had these accusations floating around. That is my take on it. Anyway, i was merely adding my two cents to the OP's question. Maybe the comments on this board will get her to research this doctor fully before committing. If she decides to go with him, that is her decision to make just as it is yours. People come into this forum to ask for advice. All we can do is offer advice from our points of view. If others have problems with that, well, there is nothing that can be done about that. I wish you luck in your surgery with this doctor, and hope that everything works out for the best. srayon, please do your due diligence before reaching a final decision. I hope everything works out well for you as well. -
4 1/2 MONTHS - DISCOURAGED
DropWt4Life replied to Precious517's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don’t get discouraged. You have lost a lot of weight in a relatively short period of time. Everyone is different, and although stats might be similar, situations may be completely different. All that matters is that you are successful in the end. If you would like to lose quicker, step up your workouts, or if you aren’t exercising, then start. Make sure you are hydrating, and not snacking on junk. Get your protein first, and load up on veggies if you are still hungry. This is not a race, but a marathon. You are almost half way to goal. Making it in your first year is still very much a reality, so don’t give up.
