Boss problems..
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She calls me "her rock" because I am basically her b**** and do whatever she wants. Well, I am putting my foot down. If I have to quit, I have to quit. I don't want to, but she has made it clear that she just cares about her practice. I'm going to talk to another doc about it today and if that doesn't work, I will probably give my two weeks. My goal is to be healthy right now so for once I'm putting myself ahead of everything else. THanks for the support! -
Boss problems..

No, she is my internist. Very self centered. Worried about the practice rather than her employees! -
Disappointed~?~
travelinsnorkel replied to JenFenRen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is surprising. Maybe they were just saying that because they were scared for you? My Mom is worried about me having surgery, but also knows that I have battled this my entire life and doesn't want me to die young because of all of the ill effects. Good luck to you! I am an October Bandster too! -
Disappointed~?~
travelinsnorkel replied to JenFenRen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that a lot of us go through thinking that we have failed or aren't good enough because we can't lose the weight on our own. However, I also think that people that only need to lose 15-20 pounds have a very different perspective than those of us who are 100lbs overweight. It doesn't mean that you are lazy. I have tried every diet known to man and I do work out and still haven't been able to lose the weight. There are a lot of factors that play into. You are doing the right things! Good luck! -
Should I stay over night after surgery?
travelinsnorkel replied to taosgal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am being banded in a few weeks and am self pay. My doc said that he plans on me going home that day, but if ANYTHING is wrong he will keep me overnight, so can you make a last minute decision? I don't think they'll kick you out if you are having problems! -
Although I haven't had to get the seat belt extender, the seats on the plane are very small and I always feel bad for the person sitting next to me and break my back trying to lean into the aisle! Having to get weighed before getting on a helicopter and being forced to sit in the back to level it out. The server in the chinese restaurant asking my friend if we are sisters because, "she big like you!" One of my exes telling me that my weight bothered him after 6 months of dating (I hadn't gained any weight in that time frame either!) Not being able to do exercises in pilates that people twice my age can do. People telling me...you would be so pretty IF Going to the spa and the robe not covering me all the way or them having to get the HUGE robe for me etc...

So, I went to my pre-op group meeting with the nurse today. It was a two hour meeting and was very informative. Although I have been on the board for months, I had a ton of questions. I probably asked about 15 questions when everyone else asked maybe 1-2. Do people just not care and will deal with things when they get there? I am pretty anal and like to be planned for everything. I'm thinking that I might have had a longer time to think about things since I started the process a while ago and just decided I was ready for it last month. I am truly ready for this to be over and get on with my new life! She did make me a little nervous when she talked about preferring an overnight stay, but since I'm self pay I go home that night. i don't mind paying more if it means better care! Since our doc doesn't require a pre-op diet she said to make sure that we don't gain weight and try to lose it. I'm sure you all know that this is hard. I feel like I have to get in every possible food in case I can't every eat it again. Ok, I'm done rambling!

Too many questions?
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think part of me doesn't want to be able to eat those foods so I don't go overboard! Although it sounds like you pay the price if you do. Good to know that you can still eat some of the thinigs you like in moderation. At this point I think that I have read so many books and blogs that I know what can happen so it is all a matter of getting it over with and seeing what will and won't be happening to me! -
Any one not have pre-op diet???
travelinsnorkel replied to christi.jones08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been banded yet, but my doc doesn't require a pre-op diet mostly at the nutritionist's urging as she feels it isn't really healthy for you. He does make men do it as their livers tend to be more fatty. It seems every doc has different preferences. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!

I work out with a personal trainer and also do pilates. How long after surgery will I be able to work out and do ab work? I really don't want to take too much time off.

I just got my surgery date and have decided that I want to try some protein shakes before I really need to be drinking them so I know what I like and don't like. I'm not really into milk and milkshakes, but I am willing to try whatever. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Shake Suggestions?
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where are the best places to buy all of these shakes, etc? I tried Vitamin World and didn't really like their options. Also, is there a place to get smaller containers to test out? All they seem to have are giganto containers! -
I'm trying to come up with some tricks and strategies that might keep me on track once I have my surgery. So far, I'm making a list of all of the things that I hate or have had done to me because I'm fat so that I don't go back. Also, I'm thinking about buying a goal dress. I've always wanted to look good in a spaghetti strap dress! Any other tricks that have helped you?

What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
travelinsnorkel replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Besides all of the comments directed at me that I mentioned, there is always the indirect comments. For example, I have friends who will be like...oh my gosh look at her, she really has put on a lot of weight. Well, the person is still smaller than me! Or, they say, " I'm so fat, I need to lose weight." Well, they are half the size that I am so that means I must be HUGE! The insensitivity can be brutal! -
So, I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about a year ago which I have just recently needed to treat with meds. I am taking Glucophage now. How many of you are completely off meds? Or have had them reduced? I have been really worried about my glucose levels recently and I am looking forward to changing that!

What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
travelinsnorkel replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Here are just a few... Getting on an Outrigger in Tahiti the guy said to everyone...larger people in the middle, then pointed to my Mom and I, like we didn't get it! At a Chinese restaurant the waitress asked me if my friend was my sister "because she big like you"! My boyfriend of six months told me that my weight bothered him and then didn't understand when I broke up with him...I was the same weight when I met him, mind you. The last one happens all the time...you'd be so pretty if... -
I live in Ellicott City and I'm getting banded in October. I can't wait! I've been on here for a while and feel pretty prepared. Now I'm just waiting!

Post surgery strategies?
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I go back and forth between being the carrot and the stick! A journal sounds great. It is a good idea even if you aren't getting surgery! Jen -

Mrs. Pac-Man syndrome???
travelinsnorkel replied to LJ1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no, that's horrible! Did they start the surgery and find that out? Or did they find out prior? That's definitely a good motivator! -
Mrs. Pac-Man syndrome???
travelinsnorkel replied to LJ1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been doing the exact same thing, glad I'm not the only one! I don't know why I can't stop, I feel horrible and stuffed all the time. I know that eating healthier will make me feel better, but I also am scared to death about losing my lifelong relationship with food. I'm also very excited to not be tied down by it any more. Since I'm not being banded until October 13, I know that I need to get my act together soon because I can't feel this way until then. My program doesn't require a pre-op diet so that makes it worse! Good luck to all of you!
