not constipated feeling, but not going either....normal or no?
travelinsnorkel replied to Losing_It_In_Texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to ask this today! I had surgery Monday and haven't had a BM since. I have only been having liquids though, so I thought that that was the problem. I am just now weaning off of the pain meds too so I'm thinking that that must be playing into it as well. Collase sounds like a good solution. -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
travelinsnorkel replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why is there such a discrepancy in what the doctors require. My doc had no pre-op diet, but I'm on strict liquids for two weeks after. Do they just not know enough about how everything works? Or have they just found what works for them? The liquid diet thankfully hasn't bothered me. I can barely get the drinks down at this point! -
Well, had my surgery yesterday. Everything went well. Unfortunately, I don't have a recliner so the hardest part is getting up and down. Any suggestions to help? My poor Mom has been helping me, but I don't want her to hurt her back! Otherwise I feel pretty good. Have a headache from the pain meds, or so they think that that is the cause. I think I might have had too much to drink because I coughed up my pain meds with some icky stuff. Is that sliming? What is the best position to be in? Sitting up? Or lying down? Thanks so much!

'Buyer's Remorse' - 2 Days Post Op and nauseous.
travelinsnorkel replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It gets better each day! Today is the first day I have noticed a significant improvement. I didn't have the nausea so much as pain getting up and down and some muscle spasms, but those are improving. I'm hoping that it sill soon be like childbirth where we don't even remember the pain. -

Glad you are feeling better. I was really lucky that I didn't have nausea except for the V8 incident. I started having a back spasm yesterday from not moving enough. So, trying to move around more today. I am definitely feeling better today. I had a ton of strange dreams last night though where I kept forgetting that I can't eat and I would eat and then have to spit it out. Very strange! -
My surgeon took me off of my Glucophage immediately after surgery. So far, my blood sugars have been steadily going down on nothing. Very exciting! The main reason I went through all of this!

Well, I WAS doing better. Now I have a horrible muscle spasm on my left side. I have a call into my doc's office to see what to do. Right now I'm heating it and keeping still. I'm getting antsy! But, I'm not hungry and feel great in that respect, so it will be worth it in the end! -

Today was a little better pain wise, but I had a little bit of V8 as it is on my approved list and I think it was too acidic. So, I had to take some anti-nausea medicine. Live and learn! Do y'all feel better with warm liquids? I'm wondering if I'm also doing too much cold stuff, but that seems to be all that I want! -

travelinsnorkel replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I had my surgery and am doing pretty well. It really only hurts when I get up and down and I just have to be careful walking. It is very strange not being able to eat. I was sitting here earlier thinking what will I have for dinner. I forgot it was only liquids! But, I'm also not hungry. Been sleeping a lot. My Mom doesn't want me to take the pain meds too much, but I want them to help me sleep and stay out of pain to help me these first few days. I am glad I didn't spend the night at the hospital, I think I slept a lot better at home! Good luck to everyone getting banded this week! -

Thanks for the advice. Sitting seems to be good for now and then I kind of slouch down to sleep. I can't seem to roll on either side because it hurts too much. I didn't stay overnight in the hospital so maybe that would have been different. I do hope the pain will be better each day! Good luck to you all! -

Good luck to both of you! I'm in the same boat...just getting the house in order to make it nice to come home to and keep me busy. -
I used to have low blood sugars before I became diabetic. The key is to eat protein as much as possible and low carbs. There are also glucose tabs and gel he can take if it gets too low.

Hi, definitely check with your doc...it could also be a side effect of the pain meds that you are experiencing... -

I am actually allergic to the adhesive, not the latex, could be that too! -
I am being banded tomorrow. I did the same thing last weekend. I just cried and cried. I have been overweight my whole life and food is like an old friend. I am now at the point where I am just excited and want to get it over with and start my new life!

Thank you so much! Good luck to you on Tuesday...my thoughts are with you too!

Wow, I can't believe it...the surgery is tomorrow! I can't wait! Good luck to those of you who are having surgery this week as well! -
What is the rudest thing someone has said to you?!?!
travelinsnorkel replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went into my pre-op with my doctor, who is also my boss (my PCP, not surgeon) and she immediately said that as a diabetic I shouldn't have been eating the candy corns that were set out at work that day. I ate 3 of them...she had eaten probably 50 that day. Ya know, just because I'm fat doesn't mean I eat everything and anything! Also, just the constant comments about what a pretty face I have or...you'd be so pretty if you lost the weight. Yes, I'm an ogre, what can I say?? -
How much did you lose at 2weeks post op?

Not being able to wear cute necklaces without extenders....forgot that one last time! -
I thought I was pretty together and ready for the surgery. Well, I think that it is really weighing on my mind. I got my blood work back and my glucose levels were really back so I am trying to really watch my diet this week so I will heal better after the surgery. So, tonight I went out with a bunch of people from work for a celebration. I was really good, but I wanted one bite of my friend's mac and cheese because that is what I really wanted, but didn't want to order it. My one coworker took the fork from me and was like, you can't have that! I realize that she thought she was helping me. I kind of flipped out on her and was like that isn't helping me. I made a bit of a scene, but then apologized to her. I know her heart was in the right place, but I told her that that type of thing doesn't really help me. I feel bad that I flipped out, but I also want to make sure that people treat me the way that I want to be treated after the surgery.

So, my surgery is on the 13th. I'm super excited, but I'm also starting to freak out. What if it doesn't help? What if something goes wrong? I'm having a party tonight as kind of my last hurrah before the surgery and it feels like it is a goodbye to food. I'm fed up with food. I am so excited to be getting my freedom from it! Guess I'm excited and scared to death at the same time!

Acckk!! A week away!
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I have been saying goodbye to a lot of foods. My Mom keeps saying...it isn't like you aren't going to be able to eat anything! I told her taht there is a lot of stuff I don't want to eat after the surgery even if I can eat them because I don't want food to have a handle over me like it does now. I've had three back surgeries so the surgery part of it doesn't scare me too much. The liquid diet after does! But, I WILL follow it because I don't want to screw this up! Good luck to those of you being banded in October too! -
So, my surgery is scheduled for 10/14. My boss, who is also my DOCTOR is aware of this and very supportive, or so I THOUGHT. One of the nurses quit so we will be short staffed when I return from my recovery. This will mean that I will have a lot of extra work when I get back until we get the new person trained. However, I met with the doctor to tell her that I'm concerned about excess stress after my surgery as I don't want extra reasons to want to eat. I also told her that I want to keep my current schedule so that I can continue to get out at 3pm on Tues and Thurs and go to work out with my trainer. She said that she feels that it would be better for me to work until 5 as this will keep my mind off of eating and work out after. We went round and round about this, but she never confirmed that I could or couldn't do this. I met with my therapist today and we decided that I have to lay down the law and tell my boss that I need to keep those hours for my health. It just makes me soooooooo angry that I have to deal with this before my surgery. Fortunately, I can afford to not work, but this makes things very tense for me right now. I don't want to go back into a toxic environment for me after my surgery. I know that I can't make everything in my life perfect for after the surgery, but I sure don't want to have any extra stress!
