Did you notice before surgery?
travelinsnorkel replied to auot67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally agree! Thank goodness for DVR and fast forwarding! It is also amazing how much my friends talk about food. I'm like, stop already! -
Unless you are going to add some protein to it, I wouldn't recommend it since it is going to be hard to get all of the protein in because you won't want to eat much at first...

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
travelinsnorkel replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know, time has flown! It is exciting to hear how well everyone is doing! Keep up the good work! -
So, I was able to graduate to the mushies stage today and I will say it is nice to not have to drink all of my food! So far today I have 44g of protein, so I am well on my way to my goal of 50g per day. I'm wondering how many of you are able to get your protein in with no shakes or protein powder. I really despise them both and so far it seems like I can do it without them, but I was wondering all of your feelings on this. Also, I'm thinking about when I start working out with my trainer again...do you all feel you need to eat something before you work out? Or are you able to do so without needing a snack? Last thing, do you just do the three meals a day? Or do you have a snack at some point as well? Thanks in advance!

Questions about mushies
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the suggestions! Do you all count your calories? Or is it more about the protein intake? I feel like I am full for about 3 hours after eating my proteins. I too love the Greek yogurt! If I want just the plain kind I add some vanilla and splenda to give it some flavor! I love hummus and was thinking it would be a good source or protein, but didn't know what to eat it on because I used to have it with Pita or veggies and can't have those yet. -
Questions about mushies

I guess that one of my big worries is that I'll start grazing, which is what I used to do. So, I'd rather eat a little more at a meal than need more snacks. One more thing...can you do a SF popsicle with a meal? It basically turns to water...will it wash things down? Or is that OK? -
I Don't like Protein Drinks!!!
travelinsnorkel replied to NIKNIK69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a big chocolate, sweets, or shake person. I tried doing the shakes post-op last week, but I too started gagging on them. So, I ordered the unflavored Unjury and am adding it to my V8, soups, and Cream of Wheat. A much better way for me to get in my protein. Good luck! -
Banded yesterday....feel miserable

I feel your pain...I was banded last week. It was about day 4 when I turned the corner and started feeling a lot better. Just try to keep walking when you can and use the breathing machine! -
Got lap band solution but still in dilemma...

Mine was $15,000 with free fills for the first year. -
That's awesome! And very inspiring for the newly banded like myself!
-
Wow, never heard of a fill being done that soon after being banded. My doc won't do one until 6 weeks out. It seems that these docs vary A TON in everything!

Extremely Depressed

Hope you are feeling better about things soon! Are you seeing a therapist? If not, might help to have a neutral party to talk about why you are eating and deal with some of those issues as well. It really helped get my head in the right place for the surgery. -
I will be joining bandland in 13 days, have a few questions for my fellow bandsters!

I was banded last week and was bloated and sore for the first 5 days, then turned the corner and started feeling a lot better. I can't wait to try sushi! -
Anyone Just Eat To Survive & Not For Enjoyment
travelinsnorkel replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have only been banded a little bit over a week and I'm feeling that release already. I went to visit people at my work today and there were treats out, as usual, and I had no interest in them. Not that I'm allowed to eat anything right now anyway, but I didn't even feel bad that I couldn't. I have had a few cravings, but the feeling of being free of food is so much better than pizza or hamburgers! I hope that I am able to keep this feeling like you! -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Woah, you need a warning on that! At first glance I'm like, is that what happened to her after the surgery? hehe. Great job! -

The main reason to go on a pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. Docs seem to vary on this one. My Doc only requires men to do it, but I didn't have to. Basically they told me to not gain weight and try to lose but nothing strict. I also didn't have a day before diet. -
I had my surgery last week and didn't have any real problems with the gas pains.
-
Has anyone else had really bad breath post-op? I'm one week out and I wake up with what can only be described as skunk breathe and I notice my mouth tasting bad off and on through the day.
-
oh my aching head....ooOOOHHHHH
travelinsnorkel replied to Lshelley21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you checked your blood pressure? That might contribute. I didn't have a migraine, but a bad headache the first few days after surgery. Are you using your spirometer (breath machine)? They told me to make sure I did that a lot and walk around to get rid of the gas. -
Bad Breath
travelinsnorkel replied to travelinsnorkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow Geneviève...I'm impressed by your weight loss since June! Was that all lost since you were banded, or did you start losing before? Keep up the good work! I suppose a little bad breath is a small price to pay for a while for weight loss! -
Goal Weight Question
travelinsnorkel replied to gracie78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I've never been thin, I agree that I don't think my body type will meet the BMI standards. I have a friend who is my height, 5'9", and weighs 170 and is super skinny. So, I think that there can't just be one set standard. -
Will I Be Returning to Work Too Soon?

You aren't allowed to have protein shakes? I'm supposed to drink protein shakes...seems strange to not have any protein at all. I too am very tired. Just going outside with the dogs for a little while tires me out. -
Day 3 Post-op
travelinsnorkel replied to Lunabeane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your banding! I got banded 10/13. I was actually happy to go home the night of the surgery as I was self pay. I can never sleep in hospitals! However, I think it would have been nice to have had the IV pain meds overnight, but the pills were fine enough. Hope you continue to do well each day! -
Will I Be Returning to Work Too Soon?
travelinsnorkel replied to gracie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Monday and I would not have been able to go back to work until Saturday as it hurt to bad to get up and down and I'm not sure that I would have been able to drive. It sounds like each person is different, though. I would give yourself a week if you can and then you can always go back earlier if things aren't bad. -

travelinsnorkel replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely couldn't have gone back to work. I couldn't get up and down from a chair by myself. However, it seems like some people are able to! Good luck with your surgery!
