I got the call last week for my first consultation with my surgeon which is next Tuesday! I AM PUMPED! So.... I decided to start my own YouTube Channel called Mickel VSG. I uploaded my first video today talking about my background and my goals, and I am already starting on my second one which will be called VSG 101 History & Evolution which is born from all of the research that I have been doing for the past month and a half on the VSG. I hope to have it done tomorrow or the next day to help people know a little bit more about the history of the VSG and the latest information that I have gleaned from Doctors, books, videos, and other sources. Hope that you can come and visit me on my page and follow me on the Road to my VSG. I look forward to hearing from you. See you soon-

On the road to VSG in College Station, TX
Mickel posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just got approval from my surgeon and my surgery date is July 6th. I just went to my surgeon last week for the first time and was put on the fast track for surgery. Already on my pre-op diet which is not a completely liquid diet that I have heard from other people. It is a high protein - low carb diet where I pretty much eat only protein 2-4 grams depending on which meal and either a cup of cooked veggies or two cups of raw veggies or fruit. I also get three protein shakes a day as a snack. Already have lost 10 pounds doing this so I am looking forward to what will be coming from the surgery. I have my physic evaluation this week along with my class on learning about the VSG from the hospital. Looking to be a few weeks of fast-paced learning and getting things done before surgery! Really like my surgeon because I already knew him from other people. I had some push back from some people when I told them. They felt that I needed to spend the money on a trainer and help the old fashioned way but I stuck to my guns and am 100 committed now. Looking forward to my seminar class tomorrow and getting all of the other things checked off my list so I can start the race towards health and happiness.! -
On the road to VSG in College Station, TX

TWO WEEK UPDATE! Had my two-week visit this week with my surgeon and everything looks great! My starting weight was 263 and I lost about 18 pounds by my surgery date which brought me to 245. I weighed yesterday and was 228 so that's another 17 pounds down which means I have lost about 35 pounds in one month's time! I had some pain and bruising from the surgery the first couple of days back at the house which was mostly gas. I was walking a mile a day on my treadmill....no not at one time...it was off and on all day long going about 1 mile per hour which is really slow. It really helped with my gas pains and now I am full work mode again! My feet no longer ache and my diabetes is starting to go into remission! My numbers are where it was WITH medication! My blood pressure now is in the low 100's/70's and so it's looking great as well! I am most excited about the way that I feel now! No longer sluggish but I have the energy to get things done! Looking forward to seeing my weight fall more and more and the sugar and blood pressure number stabilizing as well. -
Thanks for the info. I just had my surgery two days ago and I am trying to learn how far to go as well.

Pain... how long will it last ?
Mickel replied to mickey1314's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there I had my surgery on the same day as you. My pain is getting better and better. This might be too much info but I found when I need to urinate I sit down which helps to release gas in my bowls. This has helped me A LOT! Also getting someone to tap your back as you walk like burping a baby really helps too! -
Got Sleeved this morning. Everything went really well. Had a lot of pain when I got to my room. It has gotten better as the day progresses it has become less and less. Walked 20 minutes after I got to room and now have done 6 1/2 laps and about to call it a night. Pain meds have been helpful. The swabs they have me to moisten my mouth have been very helpful. Got up by myself about an hour ago so pain and flexibility are much better. Tomorrow is the leak test and then I have to hold down 8oz of water and once those are done I am headed home!

Had surgery same day as you. I am experiencing the same sensations. I am drinking clear protein watered down so I won't get dehydrated . And just had 3 oz of protein. Shake. Thank goodness for the small cups they give you from the hospital. -

Howdy FloridaGal. I am going the way of cash option since I don't have any other choice. My insurance WILL NOT cover any gastric operation concerning weight loss. I have my first appointment next week with my surgeon and am looking forward to seeing what the time frame will be for me. From the bariatric seminar, I learned that here in Texas, where I am having mine done, the out of pocket costs will be somewhere between $13,500 - $14,850 in cost if I stay in Hospital only one day! If you could save money and go via insurance you would be saving a good deal I suppose. My favorite singer Amy Grant once said "Once you get enough of life behind you even the hard days are a gift. It's all a gift. I guess that's the biggest lesson. Nobody ever said it would be easy and sometimes the hardest thing in life we bring upon ourselves. But everything is for a Better and Bigger Purpose. " I always pull this quote back out because it is a great reminder when life gets you bogged down! Best wishes and luck to you. Mickel VSG

The BIG Book on the Gastric Sleeve!
Mickel replied to Alex Brecher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just finished this book that I bought from Audible where it is read to you via download. I mainly listened while driving and learned so much from this book. I just went to my weight loss seminar last week and by listening to this book I really felt that I knew the subject matter much better than anyone else in the room. I appreciated the four or five personal stories that were in the book as well even when they had some problems in their personal journey. I hope to start the process of meeting with a surgeon in the coming weeks and I feel really competent in the fact that I know a lot about this process by hearing this book. I encourage anyone who wants to know more about the Gastric Sleeve to read or listen to this book. Maybe I can be in the next updated one!
