I was 74 years old and still working. I have tried to loose weight for over 40 years, the old yo-yo affect. But as I got older I developed arthritic problems. Two knees were replaced, spinal stenosis at L4-L5 and I needed two stents installed. In addition I developed non- diabetic idiopathic peripheral neuropathy in both feet. In 2008 I went to a bariatric work shop at a local hospital when living on Long Island and decided that lap band was the best approach. My surgeon agreed but was hesitant to do the surgery due to my age. But I was very active performing with a barbershop quartet and chorus and going to the gym three times a week. Surgery was done and I got my life back. I have slowed down a bit due to my PN but I am still singing with a chorus in New Jersey and going to the gym in my development three times a week. I have got keep moving even with a cane. I will be 81 this August and am still very active. If I did not have the surgery chances are I would have died by now.
