  3. I just wanted to share some progress. I am post VSG 2.5 months and have lost 87 pounds total. I'm doing fairly well, I didn't have any complications. I still consider myself pretty darn lucky. SW- 386 CW- 299. Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op weight gain

Did you have IV fluids running constantly? It's probably from that. They pump you full of fluid so you don't get dehydrated if you're not able to meet fluid requirements post-op. And as for the pain, I'd say yes to the gas but if there is ever any concern, you should always call your surgeons office. Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. @hillnicole34, first I want to say, you got this!! It's hard, but when you kick this pre-op diet's ass, it will be so worth it! I will be 3 weeks post-op on Monday. I will just now be able to move up to eggs, cottage cheese, cheese and soft cooked vegetables. I CANNOT WAIT!!! I lost 26 pounds during my 2 week pre-op diet. The shakes were horrible and were hard to stomach after week 1. I was to the point that I was hangry. I was a b***h to the people that I work with. It is the worst mental torture I think I've ever been through. You know what helped me though? Gum. Get something sugar free. Even that makes you feel like you're cheating, but it helped so much. I hope this helps. Again, you got this! Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Unjury makes a great chicken broth flavored mix with 21 grams of protein. It comes already seasoned, you just mix it with hot water. Their unflavored mix is also a life saver!! You can go to their website and get individual packages to try before you buy a whole big container. Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hey all! I will be 2 weeks post-op tomorrow. I want to start going to the gym again, but I'm wondering if it's too much too soon? I know I still can't lift over 25 pounds for another week per my surgeon. I guess I just wanted some ideas on what exercises in the gym are safe or should I stick to walking? Eggs?

Those of us that are new to this are still figuring out what works for us and the only way to do that is to talk about it. If you have been on clear liquids for weeks, you care about eating anything and this is supposed to be a place where we can come for support. Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I am 1 week out from my VSG. Today is the first day that I've been able to eat anything that isn't a clear liquid. Per my post-op diet instructions, week 2 I can have yogurt without fruit chunks, creamy soups without chunks, full liquid and etc. I thought it would be a good idea to start with a low calorie, high protein greek yogurt. After not eating for all this time it was amazing!! My concern is that I was able to eat the whole single serving cup. I ate slow and took small bites as instructed. I don't feel nauseated or overly full. I'm satisfied but I just didn't think I would be able to tolerate so much at once. I know it's very easy to over do it and I've heard that sometimes you don't know it's too much until it's too late. Thoughts? Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Too much too soon?

If you think about it, will you let me know what you find out? I had my post-op visit last week, before this was an issue. My next appointment isn't until October 19th. Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I can't believe the day is finally here! I get sleeved tomorrow, September 18th, and I couldn't be more excited! I've lost a total of 25 pounds in the last 2 weeks during my pre-op diet for a grand total of 45 pounds. Anyone else getting sleeved tomorrow? Getting sleeved tomorrow

Thanks everyone!! Surgery was yesterday and it went really well. I'm not in much pain. I just got my first meal tray with broth and a new whey protein shot. If I tolerate it well then I'll get to go home in a few hours!! Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    Getting sleeved tomorrow

Thank you so much! My pre-op diet was 2 weeks. The first week I could have 3 protein shakes and a meal for dinner consisting of a protein and vegetable. Week 2 has been 5 protein shakes a day. I had to purchase Bariatric Advantage from my doctor's office, but it tasted like baby formula. Slim fast has 20g of protein shakes that are tolerable. Premier Protein is pretty great and their shakes are 30g. There's a website called Unjury, they have a chicken soup flavored powder that is really good and 21g of protein. Their unflavored powder can go in any drink also with 21g of protein. If you mix them in your shaker bottle, they totally dissolve and it isn't a thick consistency. You almost can't taste the unflavored powder. I hope this helps! Good luck! Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

Why do protein drinks taste awful?

Premier Protein is the most tolerable. Their caramel kind is pretty awesome compared to others. I'm starting week 2 of my 2 week pre-op diet and I'm dreading it. 5 shakes and no food at all is going to be rough. Good luck to you! Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Pre-op diet starts today. I got chocolate and vanilla protein powder thinking that I could do lots of things with them. I got some PB2 powder and some fruits, but I'm not having a lot of luck finding good recipes. Any recipe or website suggestions would be much appreciated! 19. Surgery is September 18th, I start my 2 week pre-op diet on Monday. It's really getting real. Thankfully I've been seeing someone to help me deal with all of these emotions. I'm slightly nervous and a lot excited! I am so ready for my journey to a healthier life to really begin. Any other September 18th sleevers?? Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. First of all, you look amazing!! Even better though, I'm so glad to hear that you feel amazing!! I can relate to having your confidence shattered so badly that you tell yourself you don't deserve this. I can relate to being so scared of being amazing. That's been my life, my WHOLE life! I've made excuse after excuse. Other people have made excuse after excuse for me. I've heard it all from, "You're so tall, you carry your weight well" to "You have such a pretty face for someone your size". I used those excuses to allow myself to get to where I am today. It's destroying me physically and emotionally, it effects my marriage, other relationships and how I interact with my children. Thank you for being an inspiration! I just wanted to tell you that you do deserve this and you shouldn't be afraid to be amazing! Time off work

I just got approved for the gastric sleeve surgery. I don't have a surgery date yet but we're most likely looking at mid September. I'm getting mixed reviews every time I bring up the amount of time I will need to be off work. My doctor tells me not long, I've asked various people and they tell me anything from a week to 6 weeks. I just wanted to see what others have to say. I know it is dependent on how your body heals, the kind of work you do and how physical your job is. I am a registered nurse, but my job is not physical at all. I don't work in a hospital or nursing home setting so I'm not real worried about that. I have access to a refrigerator and a kitchen area to make sure I eat and drink when I need to. I don't want to go into this with unrealistic expectations. All input is appreciated.
