  1. You need protein, clearly. I have the same hunger every 2-2.5 hrs. It’s real hunger, your body needs protein. I always give it fat with the protein. I take a kid’s lunchbox with me on the go, with a freezer pack in it and tiny metal containers with my unflavored, unsweetened whey protein powder mixed with full fat plain no flavor Greek yogurt. It doesn’t actually taste good so it is eaten for protein and satisfying the hunger ONLY. Breakfast and dinner at home I will choose tasty food. But mid days I only wish to shut up the hunger and keep on keeping on. i am losing slower than you, only 53 lbs in 9 mos. but that is ok. And I don’t walk nearly as much as you though I love weights too.

    Average weight loss per week

I never lost 10 lbs ever. Single digits only. Mostly in the 4-6 lb range a month. For the first 4 months I lost oz EVERY DAY. Then I had a stall around then, which lasted a couple weeks, then again, ounces down every day. Then at around 6-7 mos out, I started stalling almost weekly. Now I can spend a week or more on the same 2 lbs. down, up. Then suddenly I drop 3 lbs and then hover on thst weight a while. It’s weird. Almost 10 mos out. Getting close to goal. Eating more, but working out too. Feeling around for how to keep dropping weight.

    Fruits make me burp??

I was told not to eat fruit for 6 months anyway. They were called “sugar bombs” by my nutritionist. The healthiest fruits are berries so after 6 months I have started to have a small handful or 1/2 c of organic berries a day. Sugar or sweet stuff makes me feel sick so I don’t want to eat sweeter fruits anyway. Be glad something sweet doesn’t agree with you. With so many wonderful veggies, you could live your life without fruit.

What order should the plastics be done?

I hear you but the thighs bother me the most and they have more to lose plus I hear that surgery is really a tough recovery. Anyone start with them? Anyone start with one of the more difficult ones first?

    Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter

I have really taken after you. Thank you in general for so many great suggestions. And yes I’d be happy if these protein packets of peanut butter had zero sugar! I also avoid all sweet tasting stuff. But the one I use has 12 G protein and 3 g sugar.

    Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter

This is the one I use and it’s getting hard to find. I don’t want to go on living without these. Enough protein and very little carb and can be eaten even while commuting. https://www.target.com/p/wild-friends-protein-chocolate-peanut-butter-packet-1-5oz/-/A-50442031?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=PLA_Grocery+Essentials+Shopping&adgroup=SC_Grocery&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=t&location=9031170&gclid=CjwKCAjwiPbWBRBtEiwAJakcpJbYIrKWlZxGsN4o780Efow3BFFbLZapXSLJPygzMnhsA8K3v1U0CBoCTpIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds if you find these anywhere get some. It seems like both these and Buff Bake are stopping being made and I feel these are literal lifesavers for Bariatric patients. They add protein to the peanut butter so it really is a perfect snack that can be in your car or bag even on a super hot day, and it stops the shaky hunger and is very tasty and satisfying. Check out the protein vs sugar and carbs.

    Non Scale Victories

10 months since surgery. The other day I realized that I can squat all the way down with butt near the floor, and get right back up, no using arms or anything!! I ran right to my 15 year old son’s room and asked him if he remembered 10-11 years ago when he fell down in a little wave at the beach, and I got down and caught him, but I couldn’t get back up so I just held him and couldn’t lift him out. I vowed then to try and get to where I could squat down and get back up. When I was fat I never could do that. Now I can! He remembered and was proud of me.

    High caloric intake

I feel you. Almost 10 months out and I stall now for a week at a time, especially when I get lazy and don’t write down every morsel. I love the Lose It app, it does make it easy. And once I have found out the info for a food, it’s in there forever, making it easy to enter that food in again on my phone. So I’m back to tracking, and I saw how little things were bringing my cals up to 1300 SO EASILY. I need to be around 1000 plus work out to keep my (admittedly very slow which is ok) loss going. So really write down every little bite. Knowing helps control. I agree that your number of cals for your loss will depend on your metabolism, size, workout. But once you see the scale going back down, you will have some idea. Mine needs to be 1000, and I’m not happy with much less, I feel hungry. (Today I spent some hours in the midday actually hungry which made me feel like I earned the right to eat whatever at dinner, then dinner came and I couldn’t finish my chosen portion, so yay) i eat a ton of fat every day, by eating healthy animal protein, using butter, full fat dairy. I never stall from eating that. But an extra 100 cals Of carbs here and there will hurt me. Maybe everyone is different but when I stop a week’s stall, it’s from giving up extra carbs. I didn’t eat any fruit at all for 6 months, because my nutritionist called them sugar bombs. Now I will eat maybe 1/2 c berries a day and that is it. I think the fat in our diet is essential for brain, skin, and health. So check your cals and see what carbs can be dropped. Find some “treats” thst are low in carb and have them around for when you must snack like at night or whatever. Good luck.

    Tummy Tuck

Do you have to have the vaginal area “pulled up” and changed with the lower body lift? People say that it leads to discomfort in the privates when you wear jeans or just any time. I’d like “natural protection” for that area like there is now. Can’t they do it without changing the vagina position?

When will I be able to eat “normally”

I love the poster above who said “Just don’t care.” I feel lucky that I am open about the surgery so I will tell people “I’m sorry, I can’t eat that.” I am so lucky I can’t eat any breaded baked or sweet ANYTHING. It makes me feel sick. So I will just say that after surgery I canno longer eat x without getting sick. And if someone has made something that I CAN eat, I taste it and ooh and ahh and eat the amount I CAN eat, letting them know I can only fit a small amount in. I’m not insulting anyone. I think at parties and holidays I get to have more conversation, and help more with the plates in the kitchen etc. because I am done eating before most others. Enjoy the view of our heads no longer bent 100% over our plates like before. I really Have found out that it is true, now, that one bite can give us as much pleasure as that huge plateful (or two) we used to think we needed to get pleasure from. My joy at some good bbq is just as great from my few bites than from eating a whole ox and then two piece set of cake. Lol. The actual joy is the same. I still love eating.

When will I be able to eat “normally”

Slowly, over the next weeks and months, you will be able to est more and more. Please don’t worry about it right now. Worry about getting your water and protein for now, and vitamins and minerals in some way. Im getting close to goal weight, and now after 9 months I can eat a small normal portion. Months 3-7 I could only have say one chicken wing for dinner, and maybe a couple bites of salad. Now I can eat two chicken wings and a bit more salad. I’m happy. I was at a bbq today and had two kebabs, each one with maybe 3 chunks of chicken on it, pineapple and onions. I was pretty full but happy after. Please just enjoy the ride. It’s good you have that constriction now. That was the point!

To Jump or Not to Jump

We have a trampoline. I’d never jump at my age outside of it! An idea?
  15. Do not eat anything that tastes sweet. Period. It leads to the wrong gut bugs developing population in your gut and forcing you to crave what they want, which is sugar in some form. It’s the only craving you can’t satisfy with healthy food, so don’t ever eat sugar free popsicles, jellos, or fruit. At least no fruit for 6 months. Develop a taste for roasted root veggies, even potatoes - all gut bugs need carbs but the better populations love starchy vegetables. Make your treats be things like 85% or higher dark chocolate or potatoes or roasted other root veggies. Stay away from all sweets. Each time you eat, eat protein. Use veggies and beans or seeds as your bite or two of carbs after the protein each time you eat. When I get the munchies now I eat 90% dark chocolate which you can eat in small quantities, and it is no longer a candy. It’s got very little sugar so it’s more of a vegan antioxidant with a pick me up than a sweet. I kept fruit out of my diet as my nutritionist suggested for 6 months. Now I can have one strawberry a day or a handful of blueberries. I’m only 9 lbs from goal. I am so glad that now sweet things make me feel quite ill. I used to have a sweet tooth. I eat at least 50% fat every day, so I know for a fact ain’t fat making us fat. So if I want a triple cream cheese or full fat yogurt (plain) I go for it. Or a juicy steak. I never look for low fat or lean anything. Eat fat, plenty of protein, and some veggie carbs. It will really lower your cravings I promise. Those gut bugs are too powerful when they want something.
  16. The secret to cravings for sweets is that the cravings come from your gut bacteria. Bad, evil gut populations that want you to eat the sugar they live off. Having the surgery forces us to eat less anyway. It is a good idea to not eat sweet tasting foods, at all, including sugar free sweet foods, and even fruit. Eat your protein without sweet flavors. If you can do this, and feed the gut bugs just some inulin (from chicory root) or potato starch, a tsp at a time in your protein drink. Your bad bugs that crave sugar will die out or shut up, and you will just crave the starch powder you’ve decided to add (inulin is better, but potato starch is way cheaper). Gut bugs love resistant starch. Eventually when you’re eating real food, they will make you crave sautéed onions, or roasted beets, or potato salad. All good things. I think you were powerless against a sugary taste craving because somehow your doc / nut thinks eating sugar free sweet stuff is ok. They are wrong. This is the time to reset your diet and aim for proteins you find yummy, and veggies you enjoy. Including tubers and root veggies. You got this. Feel better.

To tell or not to tell

I tell everyone. Waitresses, strangers. Friends. Fellow parents at my kids’ school. Maybe it will help someone else. I don’t see any shame in it. And I don’t work in an office where I would be under pressure with people trying to “prove I won’t make it” or chatting about me in a bad way. I take care of my elderly mom and my kids. So I just don’t have societal pressure to keep it to myself. And in talking and being open about it, I have had some fellow obese people really think they might learn more about it, and I’ve connected with other people who had it and you would never h e known, or their sister did, etc. I feel more a part of the universe sharing it. It was a tool I absolutely needed.
  18. I have the pear shape, the thunder thighs, the booty. I’ve lost 50 lbs but the thighs are still pretty big. I’ve taken all my measurements and I’ve lost a lot more innthe face and boob and stomach than the butt and thighs. My arms have lost more percentage wise than the thighs. I feel like to have perfectly proportioned thighs to body, my body would be too small on top or my face would look like a thin needle. i have lost inches on the thighs, but it is definitely less that other body parts. Maybe when I am at goal weight and holding well, I can have a thigh lift with a bit of lipo to even out and finally look in proportion?
  19. Best facelift I’ve ever seen. You really do just look like a version of your high school self. Appropriate and pretty and like you. I’m keeping that doc’s name for one day!

    Pondering the end result

Opposite of me. I’m 50 lbs down but lost too much in my face. It looks so thin and I fear, older. I’d rather lose more in thighs and midsection. I still have the thighs of Barney the dinosaur. May need to transplant that thigh fat to my cheeks.

    Always hungry

Drop the fruit. You don’t need it, for sure for 6 months. Drop anything that tastes sweet. Eat protein every two hours, fat is ok too. Eat a couple bites of carb with or after your protein. Don’t worry about the small amount of cals you can eat, or that you need food every 2 hours. No problem. It’s par for the course this soon after surgery for sure. And not horrible for life either. But it will get better.

    Perpetually Dry Chapped Lips

Alaffia Shea butter lip balm is better than Burt’s. Try it. Lips are good here but since surgery, 8 months ago, I have dry eyes late at night and early in the morning. I have to use those gel tear drops. I guess I don’t get the same amount of fluids I used to. Weird. I thought it would go away but it hasn’t. I remember you were super worried before surgery (as was I) and I am hoping recovery and life is going well for you now.

    I hate eating out now!

I don’t get out much but I still enjoy the company of the people and the tastes of the few bites I eat. I understand from the restaurant’s Point of view that they need to charge what they charge, and a good restaurant doesn’t make $ on their food but the alcohol, which I don’t drink, so I owe them. Plus, we went to a wonderful expensive steakhouse recently and I took my half steak home and had a wonderful meal the next day. at a frequented cheaper place, they will work with you. Tell them (if you aren’t with people who don’t know) about your WLS. I have made buddies with waitresses this way. One Mexican place we go to will just make me a salsa sized dish of beans with melted cheese served with jalapeños, charge me a pittance, and I’m so happy.

Post op meat, is leaner better?

You might Trump my answer because I am in a stall. If cutting calories for me the next week doesn’t help, I will try cutting fat too. I love that I didn’t have to cut fat so far, but maybe that could help break the stall. I don’t do straight up keto but I do low carb.
