Sleeve next month: are there some foods we will never eat again ever?
GotProlactinoma replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your answers! I have a really specific mostly quite healthy diet, so I do hope I can keep eating the same healthy THINGS as now but just a whole lot less of them. I don't eat the SAD diet, already very low carb, hey I already just eat the top of the pizza slice, lol. One of the reasons I picked the doctor I did was his staffs views on nutrition matched up with mine, healthy fats, probiotics, etc. Anyway, I would love not to get dumping. Let's see. -
How important is hand stitching after the staples are done?
GotProlactinoma posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is this truly an extra step that prevents leaks? It will help me choose a doctor if this is really a very important step. -

But what RwoodSC says makes sense. Completely encapsuling the staples would be one more layer of prevention against leaks. The doctor whose seminar I went to see describes enduring a leak as two mo this of torture with the stent. NO ONE WANTS THAT. I will be asking doctors if they take this extra step. It must reduce the % of leaks. -
Why aren't all these doctors discussed here on this list of Mexican bariatric certified surgeons?
GotProlactinoma posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'd like to hear an explanation why these doctors like Illan etc are not among those listed at this official link. Maybe there is a reason but I don't read Spanish very well. http://www.cmcoem.org.mx/cirujanos-con-certificacion-vigente-del-cmcoem-2/ -
Highly recommended Beverly Hills surgeon or Mexico?
GotProlactinoma replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love all these responses. I am going to checkmate out all these docs and make my decision in the next couple days. The BH doc can do it in July as well, as long as I am cash pay. But it's just a ton more $ and I'm not sure if his trying to prevent leaks is really better than the other docs. it seems a lot of the surgeons hand stitch over the staples as well. -

I forgot to respond, no, we have a health share which is reviewing my medical need for weight loss surgery but probably won't cover it. I expect them not to. So I am cash pay. The difference between here and Mexico is so great and Mexico is not very far from here (Los Angeles). I just need it done in July so I can have two weeks off. -

So much to think about. Dr Illan in Mexico seems to have nothing but positive reviews. I'll look at Vegas and UCLA too. The doctor I consulted said he reduced the chances of leaking to almost nonexistent by stitching in addition to the staples and now it seems that most doctors do both. I'm not sure what advantage I get from doing it with this doctor if that isn't one. -

Thanks for responding. How much do the Mexican docs check their work, test the stitches, do staples as well as hand stitching? The most common thing to go wrong that the surgeon can have any fault in at all would be the sewing, right? -
Great discussion but no one described how to adapt the pre op liquid diet to a keto or very low carb diet. Also the post op diet. I am considering being sleeved but I need to still keep my good fats and very natural healthy diet. What would one drink etc? Thanks.
