  1. I am a low BMI loser so my weight has been the same, same 2 lbs up and down daily. I should avoid the scale, but it's right there, so... I've got that, I see what I'm eating so I know long term I am on the path. just now I looked at my upper arm and wondered if it was my imagination that it was smaller somehow. So without looking at my pre surgery measurement, I measured generously my upper arm. An inch less than my pre-op measurement! What???? Wow. So I did my smallest waist measurement which is right under the boobs. Again, was generous. Two inches less than my pre-op, what?? I swear I was fair on the befores, and generous on today's. now I am NOT telling my fellow July sleevers to do this. Probably a bit obsessive this soon. But my size still fits me fine, the scale isn't really going down... but I now think my body is using my stored fat a little. For me, it helped encourage me.

How soon were you able to drive?

After about 4 days. I didn't feel clear headed enough even though I was not on pain meds, I just drove to pick up my child from camp and went straight home. I was fine but like someone who had one drink, in my level of alertness. I am still less alert and sharp two weeks from surgery, though I drive every day now. Anesthetic definitely affects people.

    GAINED 3lbs!

You didn't gain fat. Who knows what happened? Holding fluids? Give it time; your weight only tells a tiny bit of your fitness story. Frustrating, yes, but surgery was only a month ago. Things are always shifting, water, muscle, digestion...

    So what does everyone eat?

Our nutritionist said no fruit ever. Basically I don't expect to eat fruit until I am a healthy weight. Not that I don't love fruit, but to me now they are sugar bombs in my mind.

Question - eating and drinking vs liquidy food?

I guess I was wondering the same thing. This is good to know.
  6. Adding to this. i looked up My before measurements and looked at JJill size charts. For those of us with the big hips and thighs, it is more about the inches than the pounds lost. From 2x to 1x I'd need to lose 4 inches (because the plus sizes are so generous). To make it into a size 16 I'd need to lose 6 inches.
  7. Since I carry in my thighs I figure I will follow the others who take a really long time to go down in inches below the waist. It is what it is. Lots of great info on this thread. I wonder if, if you keep the weight off for a year or so and go for the plastics, someone who has the thunder thighs can't help things along with some lipo along with the thigh skin removal. How nice it would be to have a proportional body instead of keeping Barney the Dinosaur shape. A girl can dream!

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?

I was sleeved on the 19th. Never had much pain or nausea other than the first Days of shoulder gas pains which walking got rid of. Had trouble getting fluids in, then got better at getting the protein in. Ive been weak but was feeling stronger yesterday... then last night my five year old got the stomach virus. I've been up caring for her all night and day and she can't keep even one sip of water or Gatorade in. So afraid I will catch it or others will. I'm alone in charge of too many people. Today I have had almost no fluids or proteins. This too shall pass soon I hope.

    Protein intake worries

Same here when I was in the first week. I would spend a couple hours on one protein drink and later a couple more on the next. Which only gave me like 40 something G protein. I found bone broth (I made mine, some stores sell it) to be a huge help because it tasted good, had a little salt, and a cup has 9 g proten! It took probably,6 days to get 60 g. But it will eventually help you get your strength back. You're doing fine. Keep it up.
  10. I was really searching - those places that are like hangover refreshers, they cost upwards of $350. But I found a little naturopathic doctor who offered it for $150. It's what I would have spent on food for myself last week, right??
  11. I like hearing this. I do want slow and steady. I have gained back the initial weight I lost when I was only sipping water post surgery. I knew it wasn't just dehydration. So about 10 days out, since surgery day I've only lost 2-3 total pounds. Originally 6 lbs fell right off.

    Gained 2 pounds!!

How about protein in the evening rather than carbs (chips)? Just an idea. I've been feeling "hungry" (weak) around 10 pm and I'm only 1.5 weeks sleeved. So I have started making a protein drink and having just the first few sips then, saving the rest for morning.

    Italian ice too fast

I agree that both artificial sweeteners and colors could do it. They are not actual foods. I'm sorry this happened. Definitely don't dehydrate yourself after diarrhea though. Try water or a fluid that worked for you before this happened, back to sip by sip.

    I'm Miserable

Also maybe not eat popsicles. Do they have fake colors, fake sugars? Someone already mentioned they are so cold. I don't drink anything too cold. Find another comfort liquid. Room temp veg juice helps me, as well as slightly warm bone broth.

    Post-OP PILLS??????

Your liquid pain Med is good, I got that too. But your nausea Med should be the zofran that melts on the tongue. You don't want nausea Med as a pill in the stomach. Our doc gave the zofran in pill form, but when I asked, he wrote me a scrip for the zofran melts. Once you have those two, you should be fine. Colace was a gel but it worked fine.

    Super fast weight loss

You want to keep your fluids and proteins up regardless of purées, and if you are, you should just ride with the weight loss. I'm sure I won't have loss like you because I'm a smaller obese. But even I lost a lot in a few days. I started getting scared I was too dehydrated. Quick loss scares me more than pleases me because I don't want to dehydrate.
  17. I am so sorry for your complication. I was told that for 95% of patents surgery is VERY worth it but for the very few with one of the two big complications, it isn't. We all hope like hell not to be the one with the complications. I'm sorry. i am one week plus two days out, what is that, day 9? I have had no serious pain or nausea, though I stayed on my liquid oxy for two days post surgery. I've been weak, and sipping fluids has been difficult, but I've slept very well, and have started getting enough protein daily. Today I spent the whole day on the go (helping my son look for his first apartment) so I'm pretty tired. I plan to rest all weekend. I want people to know it's been a calm and not unpleasant recovery for me the first week. I've slept on my side with my body pillow since night 4. I haven t been really hungry like we felt on the pre op. But when I'm really weak I'm learning I need more protein powder. So I sip it a lot. It's like a new hungry. i helped my dehydration by paying for a vitamin IV and I'll do it each week. i wish no one had to have any surgical complications!
  18. My surgeon knows how hard it is to get fluids in right after surgery and he knows nutritional help for healing is non existent because stomach surgery, so he has everyone receive an IV the next day with a Meyers Cocktail vitamin and mineral infusion in it. And if you are local you can come in weekly for more. If you've been having as hard a time as I am getting enough fluid in, see if you can't find a place you could get a vitamin and mineral infused IV to help you avoid dehydration. I got another today, a week out from surgery, and it helped me feel so much better, and it has to help me heal. I've gotten my protein in for the past two days, but I haven't met my water needs yet. This will really help, and I feel better already. I plan on doing it once a week until I am getting all my fluids in orally. Today the place I found did it for $150 which is less than the food I would have eaten all week would have cost, right?

    1week post op and hungry

Mine was on the 19th so I probaly counted days wrong. I had an IV today to help against dehydration. I also tried a tiny bit of the Greek yogurt. Need to make more chicken bone broth but no energy.
  20. You weigh 248 and you are in 14/16! I weigh 186 today and I'm still in 18, can't fit a 16 yet! My blubber is so fluffy and wide!
  21. You are taller but started with around same weight. Good luck to you and I hope to lose as you have!

    Day 7 Sneezing!

For me, it only hurt to sneeze, cough or laugh for about 3 days. I'm on day 8 and it doesn't hurt to do any of that now.

    Please help...soft foods phase

I'm not there yet but our nutritionist is very good and she says stop drinking anything 30 mins before and 30 mins after soft foods or you WILL be sorry. So that is what I will do.
  24. I want to just quickly input protein, carbs, fiber, water. Not the foods and have the app calculate. I will provide just the macro numbers. I wish there was a simple app that gave me that quickie option!
  25. I'm going to mess up your chart! My correlation is freakish larger than anyone else's here. My starting BMI was 34 and I was wearing 18/20. I weighed 205. Why is my fat so light and fluffy and taking up all that room?? one week post op my bmi is 31 and I'm still fine in my size 18s.
