I have crunched some salted sunflower seeds, also I love 85% dark chocolate in the freezer, break off a square, crunch it slowly. i need to find and try those broad beans! -
Thanks for recommending this. My old deep fryer is just sitting on my counter and I know we have broken up but I haven't thrown him out yet. We should get an air fryer. Everyone seems to like them a lot and kids LOVE fries. Wondering how it does with chicken wings. At 2 mos out, I found I could still enjoy one chicken wing baked in oven (my old recipe) and eaten with hot sauce. What a delight that day was.

Jillian Michaels app. The beginner workouts are only 30 mins. And each exercise is only 20 seconds. You rate the difficulty at the end and how you rate it determines how hard the next one will be. I'm almost to the end of the beginner. I am so proud of myself. I hated exercise and now I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I do. She is different every day and you can do it on your iPad or phone anywhere, using your own music in the background. -

Slightly different response. If you are in the first couple months after surgery, you might need to really use protein powder to get Un hungry. Because that dizzy weak feeling, if that is what it is, means your body needs more protein. And the tiny amount of food (even the yogurt) might not be getting rid of the dizzy weak feeling. So make up a protein drink to keep in the fridge or a metal thermos beside you all day, and sip from it when your tiny mini meal doesn't satisfy that genuine hunger. It can be tricky to figure out head hunger (cravings) from real need for more protein at first. A few sips of a boring unsweetened protein powder mixed with plain milk will satisfy that protein deficit. It would not satisfy a "head hunger" dreaming of French fries. Maybe it will help you learn. -

Mine is the smallest I think. First month out, I lost 8 lbs. I lost more on the 2 week pre op diet. My stall was like week 2 for a while, I even went up 2 lbs even though I was eating less than 500 cal a day, just protein powder in milk, and bone broth. Then my second month (just completed) I only lost 6 lbs. I did start with a low BMI and my steady loss since the pre op is 28 lbs, which has been enough to dump me just out of obesity bmi. It's going to be a long slow journey. The scale goes down in ounces if not every day, then every other day. I'm doing a workout program and I hope to get stronger too. Muscle weighs more so it might mean I shrink without a ton of scale loss. For me though it's a little depressing that I'm not MUCH smaller yet. And everyone knows about the surgery so I think they might be expecting more, not that I care. And I cant wait to buy new clothing. Soon. -

We were sleeved the same week and you are doing wonderfully! Especially being low BMI like me. So even with you having slip ups, you're ahead. Decide when you are most energetic at home and take that time to make yourself some food for the week. Meatballs, maybe. Freeze them in small amounts lies maybe 2 meatballs in a bag. Keep a lunch box in your car with enough meatballs for the day in it. Heat them in a micro or even leave them out for 30 mins to thaw and eat. Be prepared with YOUR choice of snacks. Put Epic meat protein bars in your car. You get the munchies, you turn to those spicy meat bars. I also got a pack of spicy peanuts (the only nut I can eat) or spicy pumpkin seeds, and portioned them out to maybe 10 nuts in a little ziplock each. Stuffed them into my car door pockets. You so have this. I'm envious of your loss, so there! Hugs. -
I'm only 2 months out, but I've started making my own granola made with oats, and seeds. It has a little olive oil and a little maple syrup in the recipe but I dropped the sugar it called for. The only fruit is a very small amount of dried sour cherries. And I measure out 2 oz only when I eat it. i do need the fiber so I take is an important part of my daily nutrition. I will not be buying boxed cereals hopefully ever again for myself. But the quantity is king. If it's full of protein and nutrition, and a couple oz fit into your desired daily food, then go for it when you can digest it. My carbs are quite low even with those two ounces. One of the best things about this surgery is that a tiny amount of something good is actually satisfying! It never was before. I thought all the skinny people were lying. One bite of a cookie can't be as satisfying as the whole box! But yes. Now it can. For real. I love that.

This is what I thought too. But it gets better. I am 8 weeks out and can now do moderate sips. Medium sips. And a couple at a time. It's pretty close to normal. But I can't do what I used to do, guzzle say three big swallows. That still hurts. And I'm glad it does. There came a point, maybe around 7 weeks, where eating started to get easy. I was devastated, thought I maybe wasn't sleeved tight enough. Made a few mistakes, ate too fast or didn't chew enough, and found I still had the painful restriction. WHICH IS WHAT I WANT!!! It's why I did this. But it does get easier to get the water down. Hang in there. -

I feel differently. Maybe you're a lot younger than me. It might look like drinking and eating a lot means you're having more fun. But what is fun? To me, fun would be, laughter and banter at the social event, a taste of something yummy, dancing or walking or playing a game. Maybe meeting someone special. That is actually more FUN than stuffing my face with large quantities of food, or feeling sweet alcoholic drinks go down My throat. Think about what REALLY means fun to you, and look to increase your actual fun at social events. No one ever ever ever says, the morning after the party, "I wish I had eaten more of that cake / drank more of that vodka." -
Upper/inner thigh fat

I am low BMI and steadily losing around 1-2 lbs a week, 8 weeks out. My thighs have always rivaled Barney the purple dinosaur's. There is the least inches lost there, but still the thighs are deflating. This early out, I've lost more in the upper body, face and boobs, for example, than the thunder thighs. I'm in this for the long haul though. -

I was sleeved in July and we had weeks over 115 degrees here in Aug. I took measured protein powder around with me and had bottled water. I added the water to the powder and that helped me feel better and get my protein and fluids. Does it taste good? No. It keeps you alive and strong. -

Thanks for responding. Yes, I bet there was sugar in the Chinese food. Kung pao is spicy so we don't realize, probably. It was better last night. I ate "more" (homemade beef roast) at dinner than usual in hopes of triggering restriction. I was so happy to feel discomfort and indigestion for a few hours!!! Ha ha ha ha ha! I basically "asked" for that. Which is good. No fairies put my old stomach back in! I think I might try making some chicken garlic meatballs in large quantity to take everywhere or eat in evenings. Also want to try 90% or more dark chocolate. You are right, we have done too much and come too far to let those cravings come back or rule us. Losing weight feels MUCH better than anything on this earth tastes. another pound gone even though my cals have been above 900 for three days. Gotta go get my workout in. -

When I first had surgery, two sips of water made me feel like I'd eaten Thanksgiving dinner. Slowly I could drink more, but even a week ago I had that full feeling after 2 oz food. And I have been slowly losing nicely. I am trying to keep my calories around 800 until 3 months and raise them to 1000 at three months plus add more exercise. Sometimes lately I go over, to 900 or 1000 cals already. Still losing some ounces each day. Now I am scared it might come to an end. I didn't have carb cravings until now, just a shaky feeling that meant "I need protein." For the first time last night, I got a crab craving or a sweet tooth. I tried to fight it by eating something healthy with protein powder mixed into it. It didn't make me feel full. Then I ate a small cookie. I didn't even want to but the craving. I was hoping I'd feel sick from it. I felt nothing. It didn't take away the craving. Thank goodness I did not eat any more. Is the wonderful full feeling leaving me? Did I not eat enough good protein at dinner? It was the first time I tried "fast food" - I had 3 oz of Kung pao from Panda Express with no rice of course. What did I do wrong that I got a carb craving? I wanted them gone forever. That late night carb craving made me fat. What can I do to make it never happen again or when it happens to counteract it?? (Don't say go to sleep because I have one hour to myself after the kids are in bed and I need that hour for my mental health.) -

I just started a topic (about the evening carb cravings) where I am scared of my LACK of restriction at only seven WEEKS, not months, out! I can eat beef and chicken and eggs. Last night I caved and ate a cookie. I don't know if I have much restriction at all. I'm only eating max three ounces of anything but I wonder what restriction I even have any more. I used to stop after two bites. I WANTED to be forced to eat tiny amounts. I ENJOYED not having hunger. I hope the effects of surgery stay with me because i know it will take a year to lose all my excess weight since I am a low BMIer. -

Add resistant starch (even a teaspoon of potato starch in your water), drink one of those magnesium drinks (a powder st the health food store called Calm something) or take a magnesium capsule at night if you can take pills. And get some glycerine suppositories. You will poop about 15-20 mins after inserting one. -

Prolactinoma, a big pituitary tumor that causes obesity by releasing a ton of prolactin into your bloodstream so that your body wants to turn all you eat into fat storage for the adult football team it thinks you are breastfeeding. You also have no feeling of satiety so even though I ate mostly healthy, I could not do portion control. And as I got fatter, I hated exercise more and more. So, lots of food and no exercise. the tumor won't be going away but already the portion control from the sleeve is fantastic. This is my head start to get good habits and get fit and strong. If I end up gaining it back because of the tumor, I'll do something else then. -

I had had four c sections so it wasn't that bad, not as bad as a c section. I kept myself nicely drugged for the first two days in the hotel. Sipping water caused some discomfort but I kept trying. Walking was the best thing for that gas in the shoulder pain. I never for one second was in as much pain as a migraine or a sprained ankle. I stopped pain meds by day four when I flew home. Really, it isn't bad. Honest. You just have to baby yourself, walk, take your pain meds (ask for all of them to be in liquid or melt under your tongue zofran for nause). I didn't have much nausea either. It was better than I feared. Honest. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight

I believe this is where the gut bugs come into play. The good gut bugs help with our digestion, immune system, and brain (including emotions and moods) function. It is essential to create a symbiosis with them. And they don't eat fat or protein. Only the evil ones eat sugar! The good ones need good starches and fibers. So we do need those fibrous veggies (impossible soon after bariatric surgery though) and the natural starches to keep them happy. They thrive (and then help US thrive) on resistant starches like cooked and cooled potatoes, sweet potatoes, oats not cooked in water, beans, peas, (not soft) plantains and many powders like banana "flour," potato starch, inulin, etc. (green bananas are also a good source but should be avoided for WLS as they have so much sugar). But I think what you found out through your own self experimentation should be true. Junk carbs are useless and cause weight gain. But healthy starchy carbs, after a period of being unable to eat them because of our small stomachs and urgent protein requirements, are going to be a huge part of our diets and we will crave these healthy carbs. Gut bugs give us our cravings. I was able, while fat, to get my craving for sweets traded for craving for roasted root veggies. I've seen it happen. And again we are talking about 100g or less of carbs, mostly veggies and good starches. So still not high carb but POWERFUL carbs. -
How to simply track my eating and drinking? Apps seem too complicated.

I got a few apps including Baritastic. They are so complex. I want to QUICKLY log in my fluids or protein, not search for foods or figure out which "meal" to call it. I can't figure out how to just plug in x grams, then later, another x grams. Or x oz fluid, then later another x oz fluid. Etc. Anyone have an easy way to spend seconds tracking instead of feeling stupid and wasting a half hour? -
Taste changing 3 month post op

I'm 6 weeks out and my protein powder sometimes give some me a weird reaction. I still need it, so I tried mixing it with Greek yogurt instead of fluid and it helped. I'm using an expensive plain grassfed whey with no flavor. Just trying to not have a weird low blood sugar nausea reaction. -

To get you started, how about nothing bready or starchy or sweet at all? This way, you will starve out any gut bugs who are causing cravings for any of those foods. No juice, fruit, fake sugar drinks, fake sugar desserts, bread, tortillas, rice, pastas. Instead, focus on protein foods and make sure one meal has protein powder in it because no food has as much protein in that low of volume food. Protein first. Three bites protein for each bite veggies, and protein first. Bake, grill, sauté veggies. Buy a bunch of root veggies and greens and cook them up. Have a whole bunch of cooked veggies in the fridge each week ready to snack on or fill out your protein meals. I slice them, rub them with olive ol, sprinkle sea salt, and bake at 400 for 30-50 mins depending which veggie is being used. The more fruit you eat the more sweets you crave. My nutritionist says fruit is really just sugar bombs. Get your vitamins from colorful veggies. Add other spices too, make it yummy. Eat your favorite proteins, fill up on them. This is a good start, and you can still follow or make some other more formal eating plan, but focusing on your protein and veggies is at least a step in the right direction. And of course drink that water. -

Could you possibly be gaining muscle? We were sleeved around the same time and you are working out more than me. I do 30 mins 5 days a week. I've lost almost 13 lbs since surgery but I know part of it is my low bmi. I am not in a stall, every day lately several ounces disappear from the scale. But I lost nothing in the first two weeks I think. -
Sleeve surgery and Blood pressure -- WHY??

One of the factors pushing me to finally get the sleeve this last July was my high blood pressure. I got a cuff at doc's orders last March and started taking my BP twice a day. It was always very high, never normal, sometimes lower but within the too high range. Some days it was scary high. I really couldn't correlate it with stress. When I started the pre op diet in early July, BOOM. Blood pressure dropped down to normal. Then I had the surgery, and after a week, started taking BP again, and it was normal still. After 4 weeks, it started creeping back up. Now I'm getting high readings again! What does it correlate with!? What made it go down?? If it was calories, my calories haven't changed much lately. Around 400-500 right after surgery, then up to 700 and staying there. It can't be weight loss as the BP dropped down to normal the moment I started the pre op low calorie diet. I was the same weight. And since surgery I have barely lost 10 lbs. it's going down very slowly. Recently I have added a few more carbs like 2 oz granola a day, which helps fight constipation, and still very low carb. Can if be that ANY carb raises blood pressure? What am I doing wrong? I have done 6 days of a new exercise program, I thought exercise LOWERS BP. I'm not happy about this. Anyone know the relationship to weight loss, diet changes, and blood pressure?
