Good for you Kar.. When do you go for your first fill?
-
You had stitches?? He used Glue on me. BTW, the next Support Group is recipe exchange. I guess people are to make a lap band friend recipe and then bring it in and the recipe to share. Im sure you dont have to bring anything in though seing you are just out and dont know what works and what doesnt yet. Im not taking anything, I dont cook. lol Glad you are feeling better, it takes time, but it will pay off :cursing:

Kar went back to work I think this week. I think she is doing good. I think it is going to take me another year to get to goal :grouphug: Im down 64 now and still need to lose 100, but I had A LOT of weight to lose so who knows. I go see him on the 15th for another fill, he probably wont be happy with my loss, butIm not losing it for his health. Im losing for my health. Good luck with your surgery. Keep us updated

Good luck with everything whit. It will go fast now.

Have you called them? I know that even though I had my paperwork, they had to receive the paperwork themselves from the insurance company, they could not go by mine (which I could not understand why, I think they get the same thing) I would call Brenda and make sure she even got it and find out what the hold up is.

Wow, sounds like you are staying busy. Things are doing good here. I have now lost 64 pounds. Not as much as I should be down, but it is slowly coming off. I have started going to Line Dance with karalena, thats fun and you wouldnt believe the workout you get from it. School has kept me VERY busy this quarter so I dont have too much time for much more then study time. 3 more weeks of this quarter and then a small break. Hopefully summer quarter wont be as hecktic. As for the meetings, Jeannie announced at the last meeting due to the size and stuff we are going to have to break up into 2 meetings so we decided to keep the 4th Monday of the month and then the Thursday that follows that monday. AS for this month, due to a holiday, the meetings were pushed up to this week. Thursday she told me she didnt know if there would be enough people to have the meeting this thursday and said to call before I go to make sure we are having it. So you may want to call her and ask her if she is still having it Thursday at 6. I think I may just stop by and see if anyone shows up, unless I have heard it is canceled. Anyway, it was good hearing from you. Talk to you later.
-
Kyla, Ive been wondering about you, havent heard from you in a long time. Hopefully it is just the port leaking, that will just be a minor surgery if it is. Are you going to support group Thursday? When I talked to her Thursday, she wasnt sure if there will be enough people there to have it. Whit, YEAAAA, now everything will go sooo fast. Thing is when you call the office today, they will probably say that they cant do anything until they get the paper work. For some reason we get the paper work before they do. Good luck with everything. Keep us posted.

How long have you been waiting now????
-
2 weeks since they turned the paperwork in? Umm, I think I would call the insurance company if it was me waiting. The insurance could probably tell you more then the office because well, we usually know we are approved before the office does.

Just letting you all know that the next Support Group meeting is May 18th due to the holiday falling on the 4th Monday. She is also starting meetings on Thursdays following the monday we have the meetings. Same time, Same place, just different day of the week.

You do tend to lose faster at the beginning of any diet. I think it is just the lifestyle change, I dunno... I have Blue Cross Blue shield and it took less then a week for me or I think it was right at a week, I dunno. lol, I dont know much tonight. Anyway, congrats and good luck. You will soon be one of us

did they have a lot of carbs in them? Mom said they are a good source of protein though. Yeah, there are so many carbs are there its rediculous. That is what I find the hardest, eat good food but not carbs. A trick I did to get some protein suppliments in was I would made sugar free pudding and put choc protein powder in it. I thought it would be gross, you cant even taste the protein powder in it. I even took some to school and let me friends have a little, they said they could not taste a difference at all.

Ate to tell ya, beans ARE carbs. I would get refried beans when I know Im not getting enough protein and I was informed that beans are very high in carbs. As for Breakfast, I havent been able to eat breakfast in a LONG time. That is normal your stomach is "lazy" in the morning and it takes time for it to open up. 10 shredded wheats...carbs..It seems anything that goes down easy is carbs . I was eating cheerios every morning at one point and got chewed out because.....well I wont get into the conversation but he chewed me out saying that they are too many carbs and crab like that. He wants us to eat PLAIN oats in the morning not flavored or anything like that PLAIN, we can add some splenda but thats it. You would be suprised at all the carbs you eat in a day. When I thought of carbs, I would think of bread and stuff like that. There are carbs in EVERYTHING. lol.. Are you making sure you are chewing it until it is pretty much liquid? When mom was having these troubles, I told her that when she thinks she is done chewing, chew some more. That tends to help. I dunno, you may need to make an appointment and make sure you're not too tight or something like that.

Jennifer, I dont think the needle is 10 inches although it is pretty long. You will lay on the table so you really wont even see it. He will feel around for the port. You will probably have to do a sit up or 2 and then hold it while he accesses the port, that is the killer. You feel muscles you didnt know you had. The fills are not as bad as I pictured them to be. Just relax. He will numb you so you really dont feel too much either. You will be fine. Saundra, I too have trouble with meats. Mom can not eat red meats much at all. What I do is make sure I have plently of Ranch or ketchup or something like that to wet it down. Take TINY bites and chew chew chew. I may only get a few bites in but at least I know Im getting them in. Make sure you eat slow and listen to you body. The moment you start feeling the pressure STOP dont try to push it. When was your last fill? Have you felt like this since then? Are you able to eat other solids? Meats are harder to get down and then I find myself going to the carbs which is not good. I am at a stand still with my weight for the reason. I have been the same weight for 3 weeks now. But I know it is because Im hitting more carbs then I should. Just be careful, eat slow, chew chew chew, and make sure it is moist. Something that also helps instead of taking a drink, take a little bite of applesauce and helps put some moisture in there. If you continue to have trouble and are not getting your proteins in, you may need an unfill. Good luck

VERY normal. Just be careful with the choices you make. Dont get in the bad habit, "well it goes down, I can eat it" I did that with bread and all that stuff for the first couple months so I didnt lose as fast as he wanted me to. Hang in there. How much longer do you have for your first fill? How is hubby doing? My aunt Jeanie was in the weekend and she told me that he is now out of the hospital and eating liquids. Physically and emotionally, how is he? How are you? Dont forget your first LapBand support group meeting. 4th Monday of the month at 6pm at the banding center.. For those of you who missed the last meeting, Jeannie is looking into having 2 meeting days and was looking for suggestions for days. I think they are leaning towards Thursdays right now. Just though I would let you all know. The group is GROWING. See you all there.

Wow, Jennifer, sorry to hear about all that. you are right though, that wasnt Kaplans doing. Apparently he may have had something going on that wasnt seen until now or maybe I wonder if he had a weak spot in his stomach and the trauma of everything going on just opened it up.. Wow, how awful. I copied and pasted your message and sent it to my mom and told her to send it to my aunt Jeanie to let her know whats going on. Glad to hear you are doing well. You need to take care of yourself right now also. I know you want to be there with him all you can, but you need to rest also. Keep us posted on how things are going. Hopefully we will see you at the next Support Group meeting.

How long do you have to go to Lindsey??? I had to go 6 months, 12 visits.

not everyone accepts the card. There are fewer places that dont except it then there are that do take it. MOST the time, you dont even have to show the card. They will ask if you have a card and thats it. When I start to get mine out, they just say "Thats ok, I dont need to see it" It is good to keep on hand though just in case. What kind of complications, do you know? I hope that didnt scare her out of her surgery. Hope he is getting better. I wont lie, those first couple weeks are rough. I remember one night laying in bed crying saying "what have I done to myself" Turned out I was so sick from other reasons though, but recovery can be rough. BUT it is well worth it, I have NO regrets.

YEAAAAA the wait is almost over!!! Hey for those of you who had the surgery done last year I found out there is a card we can get. The people who have had it this year, are getting it with their surgery. Anyway, call 1-800-LAPBAND and Im pretty sure it is option 6 then go from there. You need to know your surgery date, band type, Kaplan name and office number. Then they will send it to you, its free. It looks like a credit card and it is the "official" card to show to get the smaller portion meals. My mom and I just got ours today. Just thought I would let you all know. Its not like the paper one we got the day after our surgery, its different. Anyone here from Jennifer on how her surgery went?

I havent had any trouble with Advil. I take 3 a day. The only problem I have with them is that they tend to get stuck so I have switched over to 2 Aleve everyday and that seems to work well. Is this post op pain or just everyday pain? -
Yes 6pm.. The Allergan(spelling?) Rep will be there tonight. Should be interesting to see what he has to say. I just got back from walking 2 miles in the park. It feels so good. I wasnt even out of breath. Anyone want a walking buddy let me know, it is pretty boring walking by myself.

Sounds like you need a banana. Can you not have them?? I craved bananas like crazy during my post op, needed the potassium. You're egs are cramping due to lack of potassium so that is why I said it sounds like you need the banana. Good luck

Ok, need some suggestions. I went to the doctor today and they put me on another antibiotic, breathing treatments every 4 hours, and steriods. Any suggestions on keeping the steriod weight gain down?

Nothing like waking up at 2 am wheezing and carrying on. I sound like I have the croup or something. I have a pysch test today, I cant be doing this!! I just got off a stupid round of antibiotics for a sinus infection.... ok, now that I have vented.... Jennifer and Brian. That is GREAT that you finally have your dates. Try to stay strong through this period right now. This is probably the worst part about the band. The "2 week starvation diet". Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing this and that it is just 2 weeks out of your life. You can do it!!. Well, Im going to get off here and try a breathing treatment and see if that helps enough that I can get some sleep so I can take my pysch test. It is WAY too close to finals to be missing school. talk to you all later
