Thyroid & Diabetes I need advice please :)
jdown replied to sleevemebabyy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have type 1 Diabetes as well as hypothyroidism, and my Endocrinologist and surgeon are really excited for me to have my procedure. Blood work for my thyroid has come back within range the last few times I've had blood work, and my A1C was 7.9 (not the best, but not the worst). I thought me endocrinologist and surgeon would be more concerned with my diabetes and hypothyroidism, but both of them have reassured me that this surgery will help with those things, so not to worry. I hope everything goes well for you!! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Hi Max! Nice to meet another type one, haven't run across any others! I had an appointment with my endocrinologist today and we made a game plan for the pre-op diet. He also said I should meet with a diabetic educator during my hospital stay to help me adjust my basals. Did they make you take off yourpump during your hospital stay? My endocrinologist said they might take me off pump and put me on an insulin drip! Weird!! Glad you're doing well post-op!! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery scheduled for June 30th!!!
jdown replied to redfire_angel75's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi redfire! My sleeve surgery is scheduled for the 28th!! I currently weigh 235, and my surgeon thinks I'll be able to lose 90-100 lbs, so our stats are pretty similar starting out! I'm interested to see how fast the weight will come off too! As for vitamins, my surgeon said no chewables or gummies, only swallowable ones, except for the B12 which is a sublingual tablet that dissolves under the tongue. They just had my get b12, a complete daily multi vitamin, calcium citrate, and biotin (to help with hair loss). I've never gotten sick from vitamins though! I hope that goes away for you! Congrats on your surgery date!! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Do you have type one or type two? I'm type one and that's one of my main concerns, but my surgeon told me to consult with my endocrinologist before surgery to help my adjust my insulin so I don't drop low as much. I'd suggest making an appointment with your endocrinologist so they can help you adjust your medicines correctly. I hope you figure it out, going low is seriously the worst!! Looking for the most highly recommended gastric bypass surgeon
jdown replied to debby1500's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am going with Dr. McKinlay in salt lake City. The program is called Rocky mountain associated physicians, and they're one of the longest running bariatric clinics in the country (since like the 1970s I think). I really like Dr. McKinlay because he's very knowledgeable and understanding about the metabolic differences people with obesity have. Also, as a self pay patient, the pricing is lower than I was expecting (just shy of 17k). Another big reason I chose this program is because it's close to home (only 15 minutes), so it will be very easy for me to attend the monthly support groups and follow up appointments. It's good that you are searching for a highly trained surgeon, but don't forget about the conveniences of having the surgery closer to home. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Definitely wait, you want your body to focus on healing up your insides and incisions, and you don't need another thing to worry about washing and tending to, and potentially getting infected. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

How many calories per day is your pre-op diet?
jdown replied to greensleeves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to do protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, eat a sensible dinner and snacks (if needed) not to exceed 1000 calories. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
You look stunning! Sorry 'bout the naysayers (especially since they're close to you). You seriously look great though. Give them time and they'll come around. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

This is exactly what my surgeon says! I'm glad to know this is healthier and will curb cravings post op. I too did Paleo for a month and a felt great, but meal prep was a huge chunk of time. I like the idea of prepping a lot of meals at once. Thanks for the tips everyone! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Getting so close! How do you know if your liver shrunk?
jdown replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked my surgeon if there was a way to tell before he cut into me on surgery day, he said no, but that he's only ever had to cancel 1 surgery because the liver was too big, and so long as you're following the diet you're good to go. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Surgery Consultation Questions
jdown replied to hardwork&dedication's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had my consult today, it was awesome! A lot of my questions were answered by the education nurse that spoke to all of us before we got one on ones with the surgeon. I did have a few specific questions for the surgeon about my unique needs during and after surgery (I have type 1 diabetes). I also asked him about patients who haven't been successful and the reasons why he believed they didn't do well, and also about what he thought was a good goal weight for myself. I had a 4 page word document chalk full of questions before I went in, and I was able to get all of them answered, so start a list on your phone, and don't think any question is silly, if it's important to you, it's important to your surgeon. Good luck! And take a notepad! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
