I'm bipolar and I have a question for bipolar users... did your moods change post op ? My surgeon told me I would probably come off Rivotril post surgery. I think it's fantastic but can it be true ?
-
Gastric bypass is the surgery recommended for diabetic sufferers. In a lot of cases, patients normally stop taking diabetic meds the day of operation. Unfortunately I won't be as I've been suffering for over 20yrs from diabetes.

Text messsge changed my life .....the agony!!!
geets replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My ex husband was cheating and wouldn't come anywhere near me. I thought I was as ugly as sin and fat. He had a job in Bangkok so we lived there for 13 yrs. I returned back home to England in 2011 and if a man looked at me here in England I looked back over my shoulder to see who he was looking at,couldn't be me surely !! It was a great day when I stopped using my ex as a mirror [emoji1434]. He was toxic. By the way you look gorgeous! -
My op is on the 6/12. Getting over the euphoria about my decision to have this operation, and I'm getting more and more worried about regaining weight after 1st Year. Does your egg sized stomach stretch in time ? After what period of time does your body stop dumping ? I am aware that everyone's journey is different. Thanks !

Gastric Bypass Old Timers....please
geets replied to geets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks@catwoman for your advise, even 2yrs is an old timer compared to me as a potential loser. Good news that dumping is an abnormal issue. So... it's going to take self control not to overeat sugar and fat. I thought that's when people 'dumped' as the stomach couldn't tolerate rich, highly caloric food. -

I agree with you, cold turkey seems cavalier on the Dr's part. -
Can't recommend Dr Weiner highly enough,I have learned so much from his videos. I'm pre surgery but feel confident about the gastric bypass,I know the weight will come back unless I learn to eat differently. There really is no magic pill. I've also got his book "A Pound of Cure"

My cocktail of drugs to control my bipolar is 250mg Lamictal,175mg Seroquel,3mg Clonezapam and 20mg Prozac.
-
Are there any bipolar 'losers' out there who've had problems losing weight post op due to drugs that are needed to stabilise moods? One major problem mood stabilizer is Seroquel (quetiapine) I'm concerned that my weight loss is going to be tough due to this drug in particular.
-
My surgery is on the 12th June. Dr Matthew Weiner at Mount Sinai Hospital on one his clips on YouTube states that people with bipolar disorder don't lose as much weight.
-
I'm on lamictal as well. For fourteen years I've tried to change to other meds but they've actually made me depressed! So I go back to Seroquel [emoji20]

Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
geets replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm bipolar and Seroquel (quetiapine)has been my nemesis,it makes me very hungry after I take it at nighttime. Unfortunately I've tried other meds but have had to come back to Seroquel,it's been a catch 22 for me for 14yrs. Good luck with the consult. -
Surgery is 5/25 but having some minor second thoughts....Can anyone relate?

Watch Dr Weiner's clips on YouTube,he's got 20+ on there. There's pre-op guidance through to 1 year post-op. I have found his advise invaluable, amazing guy. -
Hi blondie66 thanks for the info x

How soon can you drink after gastric bypass surgery? I'm planning on hitting the dating sites after I've reached my goal weight loss. I'm interested in knowing whether I'll be able to consume a little alcohol if I'm on a date or just out generally ? Unfortunately my poison of choice is Prosecco, which is fizzy. Would I be able to tolerate it ?
-
Thanks Colleen, even now I can't tolerate more than 2 glasses. So drinking is going to be out of the equation!

My goodness,you've lost 20lbs in 2 days. Take a bow [emoji1433] -
Talking generally, how long is one housebound, before getting back to a normal life?
-
That's good news, the change isn't as drastic as I thought it would be. Thank you [emoji4]

How soon after surgery have you started to smoke?
geets replied to BeGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll mention it to my doctor. I haven't heard of it here in England. Here they prescribe Nicorette patches/chewing gum. Didn't work for me. -
June Date Finally! Anyone Else?
geets replied to Mariassleevejourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
