  1. The hunger at night is very persistent. Daytime I'm fine. It's just after I've taken the Seroquel.
  2. You’re making the right choice, I had R-n-Y July 2017. I’ve gone from 89kgs to 65kgs ( 198 lbs - 140 lbs) been maintaining my weight for over 18 months now and yes it’s possible ! I also ridiculed my fat body, it was a form of protection, we’re just saying it before the other person does !! Surgery was the kick start and then the nutritional advise (tool) has kept me at maintenance. I’ve had blips at Christmas time, been scared each time thinking that my appetite has increased and my stomach has got bigger too. But nope, I go back to small diet and appetite, it’s such a great feeling, being in control 🙌🏽 I loved carbs like potatoes and bread to make me feel sated. I have 1 slice of bread a day now and potatoes maybe once every 2/3 weeks, i love the fact I’m not using carbs for comfort anymore. I do have naughty days when I want a bag of crisps/chips, in which case I’ll buy a bag of roasted nuts, that way at least I’m getting some protein whilst being naughty. ! Protein has been very challenging for me as I’m vegetarian, my diet has never been dairy based but it is now. My tummy is still quite small, I can’t eat huge or even ‘normal’ portions. I’m not on hypertension drugs anymore. I love being able to buckle my sandals and tying shoe laces. 😆 I can’t believe I was carrying a ‘suitcase’ (23kg excess fat/weight) around for 30yrs. When I go on holiday, my suitcase feels very heavy carrying it to car, then to check in, to think I was carrying that around with me daily... crazy and scary for 30 years. Telling people - I didn’t tell my family as I worried that if I didn’t lose weight I’d be ashamed. But, one does lose weight and you will ! Don’t stress about that, this surgery does work and using the tools that you have learnt help you to be sucessful in the future. I was nervous too, but it’s great being on the other side now Good luck !
  3. March 2019 now, time for a Seroquel/Quetiapine update, had G/BP in July 2017. I’m still on Seroquel. How are the other bipolar sufferers managing the meds and their symptoms? Have gone from 198lbs to 140lbs/ 14 stone to 10 stone/ 89kgs to 65 kgs. Still on Seroquel, still eating when I’m drugged, every morning I look at the plate or bowl on my bedside table and try and work out what I ate when drugged and hungry the night before. Hate the drug. My BMI has come down to 25 which is normal, but I know it would be less if I didn’t eat at night after taking Seroquel.
  4. I hope you find the ‘magic key’ to your problem. I’m touched by your humble openness. Good luck 🙌🏽

    Diabetic Results

I was type2 for 20yrs before gastric bypass July 2017. Nearly 2 yrs later I’m still on metformin. I’m down to 66kg (145lbs) from 98kg (198lbs). Getting rid of the diabetes was the main factor in having a gastric bypass procedure. Feeling disheartened, I’m vegetarian and therefore have beans and lentils (carbs) for my protein uptake. Anyone in the same situation?
  10. I’m also bipolar. Had my gastric bypass last July. Ive been sad for a few months now, since Christmas,I think it was due to being around family at that time of the year. But I am aware that I invited 21 people to my home to celebrate Christmas Day,so maybe that was a manic episode and the sadness I’m feeling now is the low (?). I’m feeling quite confused. The good news is that I need a lower dosage of clonezapam at night. I’ve gone from 3mg to 2mg (a significant amount) I think in 2/3 days time I’ll reduce my dosage to 1.5 mg. I was on 175mg quetaipine and now I’ve reduced it to 125mg. These are the positives. Im not so clumsy during the day anymore from feeling drugged,I’m also more alert. I can definitely say though that surgery didn’t make me depressed. I did suffer from a few nervous days post surgery but I think everyone who has surgery feels that. It’s normal. Good luck with the surgery. Eating less bad carbs and sugar has changed my tastebuds, vegetables and fruit are delicious and sweet. I feel cleaner now from eating the healthy food. I don’t rely on potatoes like I used to,to feel sated,it’s great,as I’m vegetarian. Apologies for writing too much !

    Moods changes

Operation was July 11th I got mini panic attacks within the 1st 4 weeks post op. I immediately spoke to the nurse who said it’s normal after surgery to get the blues, which is true, however I’m bipolar so was more concerned. Those episodes of depression have disappeared completely now. You’re not out of the woods yet so don’t worry. Things do get better. At this early stage we’re all still grappling with lots of new instructions ...what you can do,what you must do,and what you can’t do. All these things you learn and they become normal behaviour. Take it easy, one day at a time,it does get easier. If your spikes in mood don’t improve then you should contact your doctor.

    Dumping??

For the past 5 days I've been running to the loo. It was fun the 1st 2 days, losing another 2lbs after just 3 days. But now I'd rather be normal then have lbs dropping off. Reading this thread has made me concerned about dehydration ☹️
  14. I'm at 3 weeks post op now. I'm getting better attuned to satiety
  15. I know when I've eaten enough when I start burping and as we're meant to eat slowly,I soon know I've eaten enough. I also understand why you have liquids .5 hr after your meal. ... there really is no more space afterwards
  16. 1.Had to battle quite hard to get surgery approved by psychiatrist and surgeon because I'm bipolar, they were concerned about malabsorption of the meds and generally about my moods. Now that I've got a date I don't feel excited at all about the surgery, have other people had similar experiences? 2. I've planned a holiday abroad for the 21st August, will I be able to cope so soon after my surgery ..11th July?
  17. Hi Nancy How did your fri appt with your surgeons PA go ?
  18. I started this thread,I'm bipolarand now post surgery 8 days. 1st surgeon I saw said there were no problems about me being bipolar and he approved me,however he couldn't operate in July so I saw another surgeon and he said he wouldn't operate on me as I'm bipolar,I spoke to their psychologist who okay'd me. Prozac I'm taking in liquid form,Rivotril liquid, lamitragine dispersible, and quetiapine crushed yuck 🤢 I've decided that I would rather swallow lamitragine and quetiapine,no problems there. I had slight anxiety yesterday evening and I thought oh no I'm going to enter a depression. This morning I spoke to psychiatrist who said it's understandable post surgery to feel a little depressed and that I shouldn't swallow the tablet drugs,as they wouldn't be absorbed properly. I then spoke to the nurse that works with the surgeon who said it was normal to feel a little blue and no it didn't make a difference what form I took the meds in!! I believe her as she's a trained Bariatric nurse. Good news, today I've had a normal day,no blues. Food isn't an issue,I'm just pureeing my food. The surgeon that I used recommends eating puréed food rich in protein, and not focusing on protein shakes to get my protein. Interested in what you're told on Friday,Nancy.
  19. I was told to stretch my foot and stretch my toes;rotate foot at the ankle and press down on the bed with my calves. Really helped.
  20. I found doing the foot exercises and lower leg exercise very useful to get gas,I was very surprised! I presume though that you've done the foot exercises in bed already?
  21. I've just put the rubbish out and put bleach in the bin ! Don't trust my kids !
  22. Thank you John for thinking of me,you're very sweet xx 1am and I'm still awake, have to leave at 6.30 am. I'll contact you from the other side !
