How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

I am familiar with how the scale fluctuates during different times of the day.

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

Usually twice a day. Morning and night. I know it makes some people crazy, but it makes me feel good to see that weight gone, and it keeps me accountable. I gained 4 lbs after a few days about a month ago, and I feel like I was able to stop, regroup and get focused again before it got too far out of hand.

9 Months and the Game is Changing

I do prepackage and freeze some foods, like crustless quiche and ground chicken with vegetables. I need to mark the bags with the calorie content before freezing them. I agree about the ritual eating. Many of the foods I eat are the same over and over, so maybe a master list of the items and their calorie count will be a good idea. Sometime it helps just to talk these things out. Thanks for the input
  4. Absolutely. There are so many positive changes in my life because of the surgery. No regrets at all.

9 Months and the Game is Changing

Thank you for the great responses. Logging may be in my future if I find that I am not loosing without it. I've done it before, but I love to cook and mix things and it becomes very difficult to try to figure out things that aren't listed, or things with multiple ingredients that I didn't weigh first. I just went over my monthly weight loss from November, December and January, 8, 3 and 6 respectively. And 2 this morning. I agree about the consistency of workouts and meditation also. I think slowing down and focusing on our next steps is helpful. Will keep these tips in mind. Thanks again

How do you handle people asking questions

You said it BigDog Bryan. I told my immediate team a week before surgery. They asked a few questions and then it was a non issue, which is what I wanted. I have run into both support and ignorance, but I was and still am very comfortable with my decision. If my experience can help someone else, then it is worth it. As far as being judged, I think we are judged no matter what we do. I know I was judged when I was 290 and I know I am still judged. It's what people do. Not worth worrying about. Be true to yourself and kind to others and enjoy the ride.

    Third week slump

The infamous 3 week stall is real. I did 20 days on 800 calories and lost nothing. Follow the rules and be patient. Your body is adjusting. The stall will break. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    Help! Not losing weight

Normal. I did 20 days straight on less than 800 calories a day with no weight loss. 3 week stall is a real thing. Your body is adjusting. Stay the course. Keep following the plan you were given and be patient. If you follow the rules you will loose. I have seen this over and over. No worries. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  9. Has anyone come across any statistics showing how many people have had wls in 2016? Not sure when those numbers come out, but I would love to see them.

What Are Your Super Bowl Plans?

Good question. Hit the gym in the morning. Then enjoy some low carb yummy foods. Might try a few new bariatric friendly recipes. Looking forward to it.

    8 years out complications

What does your diet look like? I know there are foods I can avoid that keep my Gerd at bay. Tomatoe sauce, spicy foods, eating before bed, eating too much. And before my sleeve it was chocolate and sugary foods. Hope this helps. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    Constipation

Prunes! Or, if you like, you can call them dried plums. I got a bag of organic prunes and on week 1 ate 1 in the morning, week 2 ate 2 in the morning and week 3 I ate 3 in the morning - which is where I am now. I also include bean dishes. I like to put 2 types of Beans together in a large bowl, add onion, peppers, feta cheese, halved organic little tomatoes and some low sugar balsamic dressing. I eat on this for several days. That and organic apples with Peanut Butter and veggies to add Fiber. Yes, I still focus on Protein first, but now that I can eat more, I can include these also. Constipation is no fun at all. Best of luck to you. Hope this helps.

    Crying on the bathroom floor

At week 3 I ate about 800 calories a day for 20 days and lost 0 lbs! Forget calories in / calories out. For me it is more like a stare down game between me and my endocrine system to see who blinks first. Stay the course. Focus on the eating plan you were given (this will be the key to success) and be patient. It WILL happen. It takes time. I go 3 weeks with nothing then 8 lbs in less than 2 weeks over the holiday. My body does an adjustment period where I loose inches, then lbs. It is FREAKY how the body works.
  16. Yes, you are right. People will judge you and people do not understand. The way I see it, people judge us no matter what we do. But know that this is your decision and from someone who has had both positive and negative comments, you can't worry about what others think. Most of the comments have been positive. The ones that aren't are based on ignorance. Educate yourself until you are confident with your decision. Best of luck with your journey. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    Favorite snacks ?

Good question. I kind of think my Snacks and meals cross over. I eat when I'm hungry, but since I don't eat large amounts, each "meal" could also be the same as what I eat for a snack. I just keep the portions reasonable. I find that preparing ahead of time and freezing some items, like crustless quiche is very helpful. I pack my lunch every day and will take string cheese, nuts, yogurt, cottage cheese, sliced organic apple with peanutbutter, bean salad, Protein shake (coffee or Peanut Butter are my favorites).
  19. I agree with the two posts above. I am sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. For what it's worth, when I have gone through a very stressful time, I try to pamper myself a little more to de stress. Have a facial, massage, mani/pedi. Just to relax and refocus. The weight will come off. Just follow the rules. I just had a 3 week stall, then 4 lbs in 2 days. I've said this before, but sometimes I feel like it is a stare off between me sticking to the rules and my endocrine system giving up a lb or two. Stay the course. I and a lot of people also did the 3 week stall. While eating 800 or less calories I did not loose a single pound for 20 days. Be patient. If you follow the rules and create healthy habits, you will do great! Don't forget that a nutritionist can be very helpful. I still see mine every month or two just to stay on track. You can do this!

    Merry Christmas to Me!

Fantastic! Great Job! Merry Christmas to you
  21. Boofy71 - I agree with you. I feel like I've already been judged most of my life for my weight, so any ignorant or judgmental remarks are nothing new really. I didn't tell anyone except my Husband until 1 or 2 weeks before surgery. Then I told my immediate co-workers since I figured they would notice some weight loss and might wonder if I was sick. My co-workers asked some questions and it is a non-issue now. I have been so happy with my progress that I'll share with anyone who asks.

What did you put in your bag?

Shampoo was the one thing I didn't bring that I needed. I had to stay an extra day since I couldn't get enough liquids down. I was able to shower, but the hospital shampoo was horrible. Mostly slept.

Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?

I gave up pop when I was a kid. I did not like the feeling of being addicted to the caffeine. It has been extremely unappealing to me for a very long time. I drink Water, but prefer green tea, regular tea, tea with a little fruit in it. Also, an Ice chocolate Protein drink with either a little organic coffee or Peanut Butter powder for flavor. When I'm really in the mood for something decadent, I replace the water with fairlife regular and chocolate milk mixed. Oh, and Syntax fuzzy navel Protein Drink mixed w/water tastes like orange juice to me, so I still do that sometimes. The coffee thing is new to me. I don't even own a coffee maker. But crave the taste sometimes.

    Plant based diet

I am 8 months out and have started a plant based diet. Too much Protein and not enough Fiber has led to a not so happy digestive system. Since I can eat more now, I believe I can still get my protein in along with veggies. Only 2 days in, so the next few weeks should be interesting. I just had my full blood work done last week, so I want to see the results and then compare it to the next one after being plant based for several months. Good luck to you, I don't see a lot of replies from plant based people, but I do believe it is a healthy way to go so long as you meet your protein goals.

What You Wish Someone Told You Before Surgery

Everyone is different. Keep that in mind. I too have the cold issue. Sometimes I just want to hurry up and get out of the grocery and back to my car because to me it seems freezing cold. And this in the summer time. I keep a heating pad at my desk at work that I use on my lap to keep warm. Otherwise I am wearing 3 layers. Crazy stuff. But I'll take it any day over where I was. Also, I had gerd before surgery and don't now. I say I don't now, but really I have nausea at night sometimes that wakes me up. I roll over and go back to sleep or take a tums and I'm good and it's fine in the morning, so if it is gerd it presents itself differently now, and still a major improvement. My plantar fasciitis is all but gone. Can walk much farther with less effort. Had a blast on my last vacation. Clothes shopping is sooooo much fun now. And while I would agree that I could still loose quite a bit, there is a vast improvement in my life since surgery. I just feel like I fit in the world much more comfortably now. The best to you on your journey.
