Nausea at Night 8 Months Out

You may be right. I've considered that. I used to have GERD before surgery, but if that is the case then it just manifests itself differently now. Just nausea. Gone when I wake up. Thanks for the reply.
  2. I am having nausea that wakes me up in the middle of the night. No vomiting and I usually don't get up. I roll over and can usually go back to sleep. If I do get up I take a tums and that seems to help. It is fine in the morning. Thinking maybe it is because I don't wait long enough after I eat to go to bed? Anyone else having this issue?
  3. Wondering how many fellow sleevers who are still loosing have added whole grains to their diet after 6-8 months out and how it has affected weight loss? I have read that some people do better with the extra Fiber and while I have focused on Protein for the past 8 months, I can't help but think I could use some veggies, and I'm still undecided on whether whole grains are a good idea. Would love to hear your experience.

What You Wish Someone Told You Before Surgery

At 8 months out now, I wish I had done full body measurements before surgery. Because there are times when I don't see the scale moving, but I lose inches and so I keep track now, but didn't start right away. Also, I did do before pictures and the exact same photos after a while for comparison. Another thing is I was told and am glad I was, to keep a journal. It truly is a great way to look back at the beginning and remember how far you've come. The one other thing I wish someone had told me, but didn't is to make a couple of videos of yourself right before surgery. Something that you can add to your "Before Surgery" file. Because, hopefully, that is the last time you will see yourself at that weight ever. Wishing you a most excellent journey as I have had

    Scales are not moving!

Patience grashopper. I had a 20 day stall in the beginning where I was eating about 800 calories a day and no weight loss. I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to me. Just keep doing what you should and it will happen. Our bodies try very very hard to hold on to the fat. I feel like it's a waiting game between me and my endocrine system sometimes..lol.

    STALLED FOR ONE MONTH!

Yep! Embrace the stall. It happens. Stalled eating 800 calories a day for 20 days. Would not have believed it if I had not experienced it myself. Just Stalled up/down 2 lbs for 3 weeks. Then dropped 4 lbs in 4 days. Just keep following the rules. I also tried switching more animal Protein for milk or yogurt and that may have played a roll. Keep at it. You will succeed! Average calories after surgery?

My nut said usually for each 10 grams of Protein we consume 100 calories, so that is one reason they tell us to just focus on protein. This has been my experience also when I count grams of protein. Usually just go with reasonable portions of protein foods. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Not as excited as I think I should be?

I felt like I couldn't breath a sigh of relief until it was done and I felt like I was past any complications that might come up. So, after a few weeks and I was feeling better and the weight was coming off...then I finally got excited. And that has continued. Still love to see that I haven't gained and even more excited when I loose. Wishing you much success. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Proposal - Over One Year Out Forum?

Found it! It is not under Gastric Sleeve. It is only under General Weight Loss Forum. Thanks Guys. Wish there was one specific to Gastric Sleeve, but this is better than nothing. Hope this helps someone else find it.
  11. I love reading everyone's posts and have been visiting and contributing for well over a year now. I am wondering if others see a need to have another section just for those over a year out? I know there is a section for success stories, but I don't think that is the same thing. I don't feel like I will be done at some point. I just feel like I will switch to maintenance which is still an ongoing process. When I go online I feel like a lot of people are in the pre op or recently post op phase. That was invaluable to me when I was in those phases. However, as those people move into different phases I think it would be easier to go to a forum that is more applicable to where you are in your journey at that time. Any thoughts?

Proposal - Over One Year Out Forum?

Thanks. Might be something like that except under the sleeve section. I can click the link above, but I do not see a Veterans forum when searching the forums. I am 7 months out. Possibly blocked until I am out further? Not sure why I wouldn't be able to even see the forum. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    Fruits and Veggies?

I am 7 months out and 70 lbs down. After 6 months I can now eat more. Still doing Protein first. But adding veggies and some fruit (apples w/peanut butter and berries w/yogurt). Weight loss has slowed a bit. Did you add fruit and veggies and do you think these items helped or hurt your weight loss efforts?

    Fruits and Veggies?

Thank you Dairymary. I wondered if others had success while including fruits and veggies. Last week I upped my Protein with protein shakes and more animal protein and it made me less hungry, so fewer fruits and veggies. Not sure if that was what helped, but down 3 lbs since then. I know I was getting more of my protein from dairy before and maybe my body just does better with animal protein. I had read another post where someone said she did better with animal protein as well. Wondering if there is something to that.

    Fruits and Veggies?

Thank you for the comments. I have been in a 3 week stall, and have to wonder if it is the fruits and veggies. Not sure. I agree that they are nutritious so it is hard for me to believe I need to cut them out. I am experimenting and will see what happens.
  17. I'm almost 7 months out and 70 lbs down. People are starting to notice. Not that it matters to me. But it has been a positive experience. At what point did people notice your weight loss?
  18. Hope this isn't off topic. After 66 lbs, I see a little skin sagging in my face, which was expected. Wondering if anyone has had dermabrasion after weight loss and if so, what were the results.
  19. You are awesome! I so love the super hero analogy. Since you asked. One thing I do is cook 2 lbs of ground turkey in a pan. Then steam 2 heads of chopped organic broccoli and 1 head of chopped organic cauliflower. Then I mix it all in a very large bowl. Sometimes I add some beans. Then I portion it in snack size zip top baggies and freeze them. So easy to grab and nuke for lunch at work. You can add some cheese if you want or seasonings. I also mix 8 organic eggs with 1 container of Italian flavored feta cheese and 1 container of Scramble leafy greens. I bake it and cut into squares and again, freeze portions to take for breakfast. Thanks for sharing your story.
  20. I just passed my 6 month mark last week, and I would absolutely do it again. An amazing life changing tool.
  21. I'm just over 5 months out and down 59 lbs today. 4 of those pounds came off in the past 6 days! I was at the point where I was accepting the slower weight loss when I ran out of my greek yogurt with fruit in it last week. Then the weight started falling off! Couldn't believe it, Now I believe just one yogurt a day was too many carbs. Today I noticed a metalic taste in my mouth a few hours after I ate Breakfast. I did a little research and believe that is a response to my body being in Ketosis, Which would be consistent with the lowering of my carb intake and the super fast weight loss in the past 6 days. From what I read, ketosis is not a problem if you are eating a healthy diet, not diabetic, pregnant, etc. My question is, how has ketosis helped or hurt your journey? Any adverse affects? How long did you stay in ketosis?

Ketosis - How safe is it?

You can also read about it from reputable websites. Basically it happens when you eat less than 40 to 50 grams of Protein a day for several days. Your body burns more fat for energy at that point. I figure more of us are in Ketosis than we probably realize because many of us are limiting our carbs. 24. Patience Grasshopper. For what it's worth, my NUT told me that getting my Protein from eating foods is preferable to getting it from Protein drinks because synthetic protein is not recognized, absorbed and metabolized as well as it is from natural sources. That being said, and since I too am not a big fan of meat, there are other alternatives. Do you like dairy? I do a lot of Fairlife milk, yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese. What about seafood? I make some salmon/shrimp/crabcakes and munch on them for two or three days. And those tuna pouches are so easy and convenient. You can just rip the top off, grab a fork and eat it out of the pouch. I also make crustless quiche and freeze portions in zip top bags. And I make ground turkey w/garlic and chopped steamed veggies (mixed in a lg bowl). Then freeze portions so I can grab and go for lunch at work. You really are doing great! Look up what one pound of fat looks like. Your body is going through a lot of changes, so it takes time. I also keep track of measurements, and I do find that when I'm not loosing lbs, I am loosing inches. Another way I look at it is that instead of looking at whether I've lost more, I give myself a pat on the back because I haven't gained it back. That in itself is an achievement. In the past, it came back very quickly, and now it hovers for a bit then drops. Everyone is different. You'll hear that a million times because it is true. Don't be hard on yourself for weight that hasn't come off yet, instead be glad for the weight that has come off. And work to find your healthy happy sustainable place and the rest will take care of itself. The very best to you.

Ketosis - How safe is it?

Update: a week away from 6 months out. I wouldn't say I have tried to stay in ketosis, but it seems that I may still be in it (using the ketone sticks to measure). My energy level has definitely decreased. I have tried adding a little fruit and veggies. Have an appointment with my pcp today and will ask for bloodwork to be sure there are no deficiencies. But, we are preparing for hurricane Matthew today and many businesses are closed, so I figure the appointment may be moved. Anyone have low energy and figured out what was causing it? I am taking my bariatric Vitamins and Calcium (mostly). I do eat, but there's not much of an appetite there. I can take it or leave it.
