I'm sorry she is struggling so much. Unfortunately this new way of eating is a complete lifestyle change and she needs to try and adjust. WLS is not the easy way out like so many make it out to be.

I'm glad you mentioned something about adding Protein powder to baby food peaches. I'm wondering how I will get all of my protein in post surgery. I also like that you posted about Full Liquid Foods being 1/4 cup total. I went for my educational class last week and they didn't break it down like this on the liquid part. I will have to ask my dietitian about this when I see her this week. -

I've heard mixed info on how much the body can absorb in Protein so I don't know if what you are doing with the protein powder helps or not. I have my surgery on the 30th so I'm trying to put together some helpful info to hang on my fridge. Maybe you can add some unflavored protein powder to your wonton soup broth. I'm going to experiment with making Gelatin with an Isopure drink to see if I like it. I like Jello but am not crazy about putting so much artificial stuff in my body now that I'll be getting limited nutrition. Lol, we will see how it goes. Good luck with getting your routine down for work. That's one thing I've been pondering. -

How are you feeling today? -
I'm getting my band out on Dec 22 due to having complications. I ended up going to a different bariatric doctor because the doctor who placed the band never un-fill me when I would see him. I had constant acid reflux for a couple of years, no matter what time of the day it was and whether I ate or not. I complained to my primary care doctor and he gave me Nexium. That still didn't work and I wasn't sleeping. I finally told my doctor that I wanted further tests because I was scared of getting cancer of the esophagus front the acid. He finally mentioned that there was a bariatric center in my town (that I wasn't aware of) and referred me. I got an appointment where the doctor unfilled me and and then I went back every couple of weeks to try and get my fill right. The acid reflux subsided while I was unfilled but I started get spasms in my esophagus more frequently. I am now getting the band removed on Tuesday and the doctor expects there to be scar tissue, which he will remove. I hope to get a revision to RNY in February or March depending on what I look like inside. I'm afraid that i will be so messed up that he will not recommend I get it done. I loved my band because it helped me lose 100#. I was never able to get all of my weight off and have since gained 40#. I wish I wouldn't have been so afraid to the the RNY done in the first place. I just hope my insurance will approve the new procedure.

Band Revison to Sleeve, Bypass, or not at all? Advice Please!
Long2BFree replied to duckhnt's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got my band removed in December 2015 and am revising to RNY the end of the month. Due to the extreme GERD and esophageul spasms, I was not a candidate. I know a gal who is 6 weeks post op with the Sleeve and she's having horrible GERD. Sadly, she will probably have to revise to RNY. -
Does anyone have UHC Tricare? I'm got my Lap Band out last month and am going through the step for gastric bypass. I've heard conflicting information on how long I need to be on a weightless plan before I can be submitted for insurance approval. Is it 3 months or 6 months?

I started a new job 3 months ago and work in an office with military and civilians. There are 6 of us in the office with management having their own office and the other 4 of us have cubicles in one large office My boss frequently brings in sweets from home and sits them on the desk on the other side of the room where the skinny military guys sit. Meanwhile, myself and another military guy (who struggles with his weight) sit on the other side of the room. Never has the boss offered us any of the stuff when he brings it in. I would not eat any of it if offered because I'm self conscious but I just think it's rude and quite frankly it hurts my feelings to be excluded. I also saw the nutritionist earlier this week and she asked me why I don't just stop eating? Because I'm hungry. I wanted to ask her if she thought I liked being fat and discriminated against. My mom also says the same stuff. I finally realized that I've been passed over for promotions because of my weight. I've always accepted people for who they are and not what they look like or who they know. It just sucks to be treated a certain way. Sorry for the pity party, it's been a long, tiring week.

I understand the military mentality, I totally agree that the military should and need to be fit. I've worked on the same military installation for 30+ years and a military spouse for 31 years. I've worked many jobs where I was the only civilian (and female) and have heard the fitness, weight talks, etc that are given to the troops. My boss is former military. The nutritionist I see is a civilian.

The nut is not on my doctor's office and I wish I could go to her because she's very helpful and kind. I have to see a nut at a military facility because of my insurance. I only have to see her for 3 months...well 4 now because she didn't tell me I had to see her 3 months in a row as a qualifier for getting surgery and she originally scheduled me every 6 weeks. I have requested to pay out of pocket to see the nut in the doctor's office but am told its against the agreement with my insurance. People are prejudice against overweight people. I'm in my early 50s and have experienced a lot of rude, mean people. I've learned to become very closed off towards people and only speak up when I feel safe.

My organs were stuck together too. I'm getting a revision to GB.

Apparently my band was encased in scar tissue from being too tight but also 4 additional abdominal surgeries. The doctor was expecting to remove it with 3 incisions but I ended up with 8. I hope your outcome goes well.

I had complications with my band after having it 7 years and had to get it removed. The surgery to remove it was difficult due to lots of scar tissue. I've gained 40 of the 100# I lost and I'm at 260 now. I'm working towards getting a revision...taking the steps to check all the boxes. When I bring goodies in I make sure I let each individual know they are for everyone. When the supervisor brings the stuff in he sets them on one person's desk and says I brought this for you and so and so, meaning the 2 people who sit together. I'll get over it, I've just been feeling the need to externalize.

Getting My Band Out Due to Spasms in Esophagas
Long2BFree replied to Long2BFree's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for the well wishes. I got my band out. The doctor said it was a very difficult surgery to remove my band... it took longer than he expected and I had 8 incisions, not 3 like he had planned. I had a lot of scar tissue that hand formed around the band. I'm still having the esophageal spasms and he is currently addressing those issues but said it just might take a little time for everything to heal up. I've had a lot of pain. I loved my band because I was able to lose weight with it but I would never do it again after the pain I have had to deal with. I don't know if I will ever feel normal again. I am thankful that I found a new, caring doctor to help get me better though. -

Have Lapband and Want Get GB Revision but Hubby Scared for Me To
Long2BFree replied to Long2BFree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm not really sure I want to go for a revision, I thought LB would be for life and without issues and am afraid if I do GB and then have issues, where would I be? I did tell my husband this evening that I will do it if I don't have more weight off by the summer. I started doing a plant based diet this week and so far, so good. -
Have Lapband and Want Get GB Revision but Hubby Scared for Me To
Long2BFree posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I've had my band for 7 years and think it is probably going to come out. I have horrible acid reflux and get spasms in my esophogus. I also experience horrible cramping in my legs and feel very tired all the time. I've seem numerous doctors and none of them came really pinpoint what is going on. I've always thought in the back of my head that it could be related to the band because i never experienced problems like this until I got the band. I go see the doctor in 8 days and if he recommends the GB revision I want to say yes but hubby is scared for me to have the surgery. I told him I am very worried that I will gain all of my weight back if I don't have something to help me but he's scared. Does anyone have any words of encouragement for me? -

Just saw the doctor and I'm getting my band out in Decenber. He said he can do GB the same tone but feels it's safer to wait and heal before having it done. -

Lutasha, I'm sorry things were so rough for you in the hospital. How is was the healing where your port was? I keep reading that part is very painful for people. I find out in two days if my band will be removed and I'm not sure if I was to get a revision to bypass. The thought scares me that i thought I would have my band for life but have had issues and wonder if I would encounter issues if I had bypass that is permanent. -

I was just able to get filled this past Tuesday since I got unfilled a couple of months ago. It was determined I didn't have a slip so we are going to go with fills to see how I do. I'm on my third day of liquids and start soft foods tomorrow. So far I'm not too hungry so I hope to be able to jump start the weigh loss since I've put on pounds since not being filled. I going try my hardest to make this work but I told hubby that if it doesn't work, then I'm going for the bypass. He's very supportive but the bypass scares him because of the complications we've heard people can have and the death rate, which was the initial reason I decided against it in the first place. I told him there is no way I'm going to live my life as a fat person, and after seeing me gain without a fill in my band made him realize just how hard it is. -
I got completely unfilled 1 1/2 weeks ago and have experienced the extreme gas but none of the other symptoms. Thankfully I haven't gained since I have been eating everything I couldn't eat with my band when it was too tight. I'm looking forward to Wednesday when I can get it a fill because I'm very scared I could quickly put the weight back on. How does one know if their esophagus is dilated?
