    No smoking preop?

She will have an extremely high chance of getting pneumonia if she doesn't stop. She's lucky she only has to be smoke-free for two weeks; many want their patients to be smoke-free for at least three months.
  2. The glue on mine held just fine.

    Fever? Nose Bleed?

My doctor gave the following instructions for calling him immediately if any of the following were experienced post op: Fever 100.5 or above Chest pain and/or shortness of breath Nausea and/or vomitting that last more than 12 hours Pain, redness, and/or swelling in your legs Urine output less than four times in 24 hours Increased pain and/or pus-like drainage from your wounds Pain that is unrelieved by pain medication
  4. It makes me very sad to read a story likes yours. I hope you get well soon.
  5. I'm 12 days post op and knew that I would regret doing it while I didn't feel good but now that I'm back to myself again, I can say without hesitation that I would absolutely, 100% do it again. I feel like it has given my life back to me.
  6. You already know what you are doing wrong so do what you know is right. Not only is soda bad for you but you are risk for stretching out your pouch. Not only are you setting yourself up for failure but you can also risk complicatons. Look at how well you've already done. You can do this and deserve it too! Get the soda out of the house and order smaller portions when eating.

    Swelling after fill

I haven't had a fill yet but I think getting a fill causes swelling and you should be on liquids for at least 24 hours before attempting to eat.

    Swollen ankles

Go to your PCP. I used to get swelling on a daily basis which was very painful. My I was retaining fluid and my blood pressure was up. The doctor had to put me on a water pill which has really helped.

    Peso exchange

    They love US currency there.
  10. I love reading stories like this! You've done an awesome job! You should be very proud of yourself.
  11. If you can control what you are taking in I would say it's okay. My nutritionist doesn't recommend it because many people can't control what they are drinking and could very easily get carried away with taking in too many calories.

    Protein Bullets?

The one that I purchased from GNC looks like a long tube and is 3.1 oz of liquid. It's labeled as New whey Liquid Protein, 42g. Many people only use 1/2 of it at time either drinking it straight or mixing it with Crystal Light or something else. I haven't tried it yet so I can say out it tastes. My doctor/nutritionist wants me to get 70 grams of protein per day so I wouldn't take more if I'm meeting that.
  13. I'm 9 days post-op and still on clear liquids and protein shakes. I know after surgery I was told to sip, sip, sip but am now able to drink without any pain. My question is, can I stretch the pouch if I drink a cup of liquid within 5 minutes or should I still be sipping?
  14. Thanks for the replies. I appreciate everyone taking the time to give me their input. I drank 8.5 oz 10 minutes after eating a popscicle and have been hurting for the past 75 minutes. It just now dawned on me (as I'm typing this) that everytime this has happened I drank some new Protein shakes I got this weekend. They have a straw which we aren't supposed to use. Well, I'm glad the light just went on...

    Did you worry when?

I too had the same fears and almost cancelled my surgery several times. I just had to remind myself that these are small things that could happen, and don't happen to everyone. Then I realized it's minor compared to the possibility of having a heart attack or stroke from having this extra weight on my body... which is where I was heading.

    Back Pain

I don't have upper back pain at nigt but when I sit for a long time. I see my doc for my post op appointment on Wednesday and I'm going to be bringing this up. I start half days back at work this week and don't know how I'm going to deal with the pain...
  17. Hi Sheri - Welcome to the message boards and congrats on being banded. If you go to LBT Social Groups, there is a forum just for military spouses where you will be amoung friends who understand what it's like to be a military spouse. It's under Unite Military Spouses (or something like that). It just left my mind now that I'm typing... LOL!
  18. Does anyone know the answer to this? I just drank 16 ounces within a 15 minute time frame and am in pain.
  19. You are completely normal in that department. You shouldn't take laxatives, but it's okay to use a stool softener because you shouldn't strain if you have to go.

Uhh how long do I have to wait

You should check with your doctor to find out when you can eat as it varies by doctor. You should try to drink more Protein shakes which would probably help with your hunger. I would also contact your doctor to him to let him know you are dizzy. There might be an underlying reason why that's happening. Get better!

    Vitamins and hair thinning

Yes, you should be taking a chewable multivitamin and a calcium supplement too. You should check with your doctor to make sure you are meeting his/her requirements.

HELP! AM I HUNGRY or do I have cold feet?

That was very rude of the nurse to say what she said to you. It sounds like if the failure rate for their patients is that high then they are doing something wrong. Some doctors push gastric bypass because they get paid more from the insurance companies.

    Flatulence

It helps to get the gas out and yes, it does go away. Just be careful because when you think it's only gas coming out it might be something else. Luckily no one else was home when that happened to me.
  24. I'm 9 days post op and didn't start feeling better pain-wise until the 6th day. I am still unable to sleep on either side which is driving me crazy. I have overdone it a few days with the walking which seemed to make the pain worse. I had hubby take me shopping today for necessary things and am now sore and super tired. Placing a pillow over your belly area will help if you have to laugh or when climbing in and out of a chair or bed.
  25. If it's oozing pus then I would go get it checked. Cleaning it with peroxide and placing antibiotic ointment on it should really help especially since you will be taking antibiotics orally.
