    Numbness does anyone have this

I've had surgery in the stomach area a couple of times and have numbness everytime. The numbness from my gallbladder surgery didn't go away for over a year, but then again I had a huge scar.

I have the numbness too. It will go away... eventually.

options for financing lapband / self pay

Just marry the girl! You say that you live liked you are married and know you will marry, so why wait? It almost sounds like in the back of your mind that you want that option to leave her if her weight/health situation doesn't improve.

    Telling the family????

I was afraid to tell my mom because I knew she would panic because I was having surgery. She lost my step-dad to cancer few months ago so I knew she would be worried. I just came out and told her that I was going to have LBS and explained how it worked and how long surgery would take. I also told her that my husband was 100% behind me. She never really said anything but I knew she supported my decision.

    Problem with Pre-op Labs

I had a high blood count even after being on antibiotics. My PCP cleared me for surgery, but now I have to go to a hemotologist to find out why my white blood cell count is so high. My WBC count has been high for awhile and another doctor that I was seeing wasn't concerned about it when I questioned why. My new doctor thinks it might be because I have a lot of stress but he wants to make sure. BTW, your surgeon will most likely require a pre-op physical to be done by your PCP as a part of the surgery clearance process.
  8. I was banded on July 17 and did well with my pre-op diet and 2 weeks of liquid. Now that I've started eating mushies I've lost all control. I eat more than my 2 ounces at meals and know that going off track can cause my band to slip but I'm in total denial that it could happen to me. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out because I feel like such a failure once again. Why can't I control the food instead of letting it control me? :cool2:

    I'm so MAD @ MYSELF

I have to tell you that I was nervous to come back and read this thread after I first posted it. I am so encouraged by everyone's support and am vowing to get back on track tomorrow and only do what I know I'm supposed to do. Here's to a new day tomorrow with only good things coming our way!
  10. You might try gargling with salt water before taking any cold meds, Zicam or anything else without checking with your surgeon. Many products will cause you not to be eligible for surgery if taken within 10 days of the surgery. Hope you feel better soon!

    Ideas for tricare appeal

I'm not sure that thyroid problems qualifies as a co-morbility like diabeties does. Have you called Tricare to ask why they denied you?
  12. I got a good laugh out of this picture! I'd hate to see what else they would've done to you if they could've.

    driving for work?

You might want to take two weeks off. I believe you will get too tired going at the pace you've described.

    i cant take any liquids

Bloated is normal but sliming isn't at this stage. I would be calling the doctor because you should be concerned with becoming dehydrated.
  15. Talk with your doctor to find out what is recommended for taking meds that many times a day. Maybe he can give you some ideas. Like Sades posted, you might be able to elimanated some of them once banded. I take one of mine in the morning on an empty stomach, one at night that I just chew up and chase with Water (it doesn't have a bad taste and the other one I just open up, dump in my mouth and chase with water. Inconvienent? Yes, but worth it. BTW, I don't know how close the sleeve is to gastric bypass, but my friend has GB and still has to crush her pills after a year of surgery. In fact, when she had the surgery the nurse in the hospital gave her her pills to take which weren't crushed, one got stuck causing ther to vomit. She then had to go back in for emergency surgery to dislodge it.

to smoke or not to smoke

You might do a search for posts related to smoking. I don't know of a doctor who will do surgery on a patient that he/she knows is smoking right up until surgery. You can compromise your surgery and recovery time one being your chances of getting pneumonia is greater if you smoke.

    ONEderland

Congrats on making it to Onderland! Enjoy the ride!
  18. It's normal not to have a BM especially since you are only on clear liquids. You probably won't have one until you start on foods with some consistency.
  19. What does your doctor say? The first two weeks I was only allowed to be on luiquids. When I went for my two week post op appointment the doctor cleared me to start mushies for 1-week and then I'll start soft foods. Week five I will get to start eating everything else.

    Mexicos Dr. Kuri(anyone had him)

Two of my cousins traveled to Mexico and had Dr. Kuri as their surgeon. They have had nothing but wonderful things to say about him and his staff. They were both banded about 4 years ago.
  21. I had an experience with constipation yesterday too... the worst I've ever experienced. Before surgery I put Benefiber in just about everything I cooked but just started on mushies on Wednesday evening and hadn't added it to anything. Anyway, my doctor tells his patients to use a stool softener and not a laxative. What you are describing will probably keep you in the house all day.

    Is something stuck?

Some people say drinking pineapple juice with meat tenderizer in it helps to get food unstuck.
  24. Long2BFree

    Yeah!

I'm amazed at how many doctors don't automatically run thyroid tests. My PCP ran one about a year ago and I found out that I had hypothyroidism then. It makes me wonder how much more weight I would've gained if it had gone undetected any longer.
