Band to bypass approved today
Long2BFree replied to taysidebell's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats on getting approved! I have horrible GERD too and have to sleep upright and chew Tums like crazy... no fun. I hope I get approved for a revision from Tricare if it comes to that. At one time they said they would only cover one WLS but I guess there have been a lot of issues with the band. -
Lap band conversion to ?
Long2BFree replied to nurseforlapband's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was scared to have gastric bypass but now wish I had. If I have to get my band removed, I was leaning towards the sleeve but have bad acid reflux so that is out. I will go with GB if I don't have success with my band once I get filled again. -
Have Lapband and Want Get GB Revision but Hubby Scared for Me To
Long2BFree replied to Long2BFree's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So Excited, I went last week and saw a new doctor. He instantly said I was overfilled and took all 7cc out of my band. I go back next week and he said he will slowly start giving me fills to see if I can get to losing again. He did make the comment that I will most likely be seeing him a lot. We did not discuss bypass but wanted to see if we can get the band working for me again since I had lost close to 100# with it. I still had 60# more to lose at my lowest. I've since gone up and yo-yo between 25-35#. I learned to eat around my band by eating/drinking high calorie soft foods. I go back next week to start the fills again. I'm excited because I've been eating like a crazy person. Why doesn't your doctor want to give you more fills? -
Thinking about Dr. Lopez-Corvala in TJ Mexico?
Long2BFree replied to want2beme's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Linda99, There have been a lot of kidnappings and killings going on in Mexico so that would be my first concern. It's not a safe place to be. You might want to check out the travel advisories on the State Dept website to see if the area you are considering going to is affected. You can also search the internet for info to. I do know that my husband and I have both been banned from going there by our employers due to the dangerous situation. Good luck in your band journey. -
I was banded July 17th and have been struggling to lose weight. I seem to be hungry and eat too much. I find that I'm hungry an hour or two after breakfast so I'm thinking that I need to eat something different. I normally have cereal, oatmeal or cottage cheese. I'm thinking this is slipping through the band too easily and not keeping me full. Can anyone share their ideas for what they eat for breakfast that keeps them satisfied? Thanks.

The info I was given from my NUT was that some people become intolerant to milk products after surgery but didn't say why that might happen. When I was pregnant with my daughter milk would curdle and come back up but I could drink it after she was born.

I've never been told no spices neither. Just can't have caffeine, carbonation or alcohol.

What fills you up for breakfast?
Long2BFree replied to Long2BFree's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jacqui, Thanks for the idea. I think I'll try some Ezekial bread and a fruit. I think the bread is high in Protein which will be good since I'm always worried about getting enough in. -
I'd like to go back to Curves but the hours don't seem to be very convenient at my center. I'm thinking of joining Gold's Gym because they are open 24 hours and have a women's only room. I work on a military installation and have access to a gym for free but am not confortable working out with men.

Congrats on having such a supportive hubby. I makes all the difference in the world to have that support. My hubby has been supportive from day one and is my biggest cheerleader.

Your problems will most likely become less in a month or two.

Talk to me about TriCare + Comorbidities
Long2BFree replied to tomatogirl's topic in Insurance & Financing
Have you tried going to your local Tricare office and let them get that answer for you? Maybe seeing someone face to face will pin them down so you can get the answer. -
I too had a hiatal hernia repair when I got banded. Like Vegasgirl44 posted I felt it prolonged my healing time but was well worth it. I no longer feel nauseated on a daily basis like I had for several years. I wish I had known I had it and got it repaired several years ago.

My First Consult Now I'm Confused!!
Long2BFree replied to slynclark's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She didn't give me specifics and I didn't press the issue. I didn't think it was the right place or time to discuss it since there were other patients around. -
My First Consult Now I'm Confused!!
Long2BFree replied to slynclark's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too chose LB over GB for the same reason. My doctor asked me the same questions. I went with hubby to see a Gastrologist and got to taking an employee in there. I found out that we were banded 3 days apart by the same band doctor. She said she chose LB because she has seen several GB patients coming to see the doctor she works for who have had GBS. She said that was enough to scare her. She also mentioned that her insurance will approve a mini tummy tuck after she's lost her weight if she needs it. -

I don't know how many were listed on my paperwork either but I was approved a couple of days after it was submitted. You might be able to log onto the website and find out if you've been approved already. -
Can I take asprin/ibuprophen prior to surgery?
Long2BFree replied to scubadarz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As the others have stated you shouldn't be taking either of the two medications you've listed for two weeks before the surgery. Personally I would call the doctor's office and let them know. It might delay the surgery but will be better for you in the long run since they are both blood thinners and could complicate things. -
I alternate between the chewable children's vitamins, one in the morning and one in the evening and gummy vitamins I ordered through Costco's website.

Hair loss!!!!!!!!need help!!!!!
Long2BFree replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Hypothyroidism and take Sythroid so I don't know if that could be part of the problem. It would be interesting to know if the one's who are losing a lot of hair are also dealing with the same. -
How long did you take pain meds?
Long2BFree replied to Maribelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are in pain, take the meds. Everyone is different as far as their level of pain and you heal better if you take them when you are experiencing pain. I can't really remember how many days I took them but I think it was 3 days around the clock and then I would take it when I was experiencing some pain once awhile. -
Time off work for doctors appointments
Long2BFree replied to BubblyBandit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are going to the doctor that is one thing and they shouldn't have a problem with it. In fact, I think it would be illegal for them to keep you from doing so. -
Port Revision with Tricare
Long2BFree replied to AZnikki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm Tricare Standard and they told me I'm covered 100% for fills. I just had my first one a couple of days ago and haven't received the EOB but I'm taking them at their word. -
I've only been banded 6 weeks and haven't experienced any side effects, but I am very careful too.

Port Revision with Tricare
Long2BFree replied to AZnikki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Tricare told me that fills are covered 100% but I would just call to make sure they haven't changed anything.
