  1. So I had my VSG Thursday morning. I have found i can't drink anything without significant pain. However, if I use a small spoon to get my liquid in (protein shake, broth, even water) I do just fine. Could I be taking in to much air when drinking from a cup?
  2. Whoop! I'm officially post-op! VSG was yesterday and I'm considering it my new birthday. What a life changer! I have been having most of my pain over the RUQ, where my gall bladder used to be. It was the pain causing me to use my PCA pump the most. When the doc rounded last night he told me he found and repaired a ventral hernia (also called an incisional hernia). The day was okay otherwise. Got up and walked some. The night had been a little rough. Can't wait for the Upper GI leak check this morning to get to have some ice chips. Hope everyone else who went yesterday is doing well, and blessings to everyone to go in today.
  3. Just out of curiosity, do the crystal lite packets have caffeine in them? I noticed when I was shopping the other day some of them do. They were mixed right in line with the other flavors as well.

    Tell or not to tell....

I'm telling everyone. My mom, dad, sisters, brother, friends, co-workers, and the guy at Dunkin Donuts (when he said "See you Thursday" and I was like No you wont :-) ) For me it helps with accountability. I have always been a closet eater. I feel like the more people know, the more accountable I am to myself and to the ones I love. Everyone has been supportive. Even when I started to change my mind a couple months ago, it was helpful to have told them so we could talk about the reasons I had started down this path. They boosted me up, kept me going. Now, I check in to the hospital in 9 hours for my surgery. I'm a little nervous, but not as bad as it could be.
  5. I see so many people talking about refried beans and smashed black beans as on of their first foods. I love both kind, but let's be honest.... I might clear a room of people after eating them right now. They truly become the "magical fruit" for me! Any chance that might change after VSG? I'm thinking the last thing I need is to eat a super gas producing food while I'm still adjusting to the changes anyway?
  6. For my six month weight loss trial it had to have my weight documented, as well as what exercises I have been doing and discussion about what I will to different to work on my weight loss the next month. I had gained weight one month after a taking a stretch of steroids for an injury, so there had to be additional discussion on why I gained weight and what I will do to not only lose the weight I put on but additional weight as well. The weight loss physician wrote the letter of medical necessity for my insurance company.

    Scheduled but NOT approved... Normal?

Mine wouldn't even talk about possible surgery dates until the approval was in. It'd be terrible to have to reschedule, especially since he is booked 2-3 months out!

    Who are you telling (pre-op)?

During the weight loss trial process I only told my sister and one friend who was also going through the trial. Now that I am approved and scheduled, I'll tell anyone who asks why I am going to be out of work for 5 weeks. I haven't posted anything on yet, but it will be out there soon enough once my mom posts something on surgery day.... she definitely doesn't a filter :-D
  9. Thanks Trittalynn! Good luck with yours as well.
  10. So I've been lurking for a while and finally created an account yesterday. I didn't want to say anything until after my pre-op appointment today so I wouldn't tempt fate and something go wrong today to postpone surgery. BUT... All pre-op complete. Final class, meeting with anesthesia, and final office meeting with surgeon. I'm first on the OR schedule for next Thursday, May 18th! YAY!
