April sleevers!?
SandyToes143 replied to Simplyrosie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the encouragement. It's really hard to be losing so slowly. I know as long as the scale is going down, something is working, maybe just not as hard as it could be if I was perfectly on plan. I eat fruit sometimes and I have beef sometimes. Sometimes I even eat chocolate! So I definitely have room for improvement on my diet. -
April sleevers!?
SandyToes143 replied to Simplyrosie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only lost 23# so far in my first 10 weeks. I'm happy that my BMI has gone from 43 to 35, but I'm really hoping things pick up soon. I know a big problem has been that I'm having a hard time with my nutrition. I don't eat unhealthy things, but I haven't ever been good about weighing or tracking and I am really struggling with my sugar addiction. I thought I wouldn't be able to eat sugar and was hoping it would make me sick so I would have an easier time kicking it, but I can still eat it. I wish I didn't know that I can still tolerate sugar. I beat myself up every time I give in, which feels like a very familiar place of binging, guilt, self-loathing. Not looking for sympathy, just trying to be honest. -
DEPRESSED AND DISCOURAGED

Just re-read this. It was just what I needed to read today. I've only lost 23 pounds in 10 weeks and I was feeling a little discouraged, but your post totally buoyed me up. I hope I have a similar experience. I still need to check in with my nutritionist and make sure I'm eating the way I'm supposed to. HW 235 SW 202 CW 179 -
It's been 2 months and I can already see a difference. If I hadn't of followed the sound advice of a fellow sleever, I would've never seen it.

I just put on and zipped a pair of size 10 shorts!!! I had a major muffin top, but they zipped!

April 2017 sleevers how's it going?
SandyToes143 replied to Sparklequeen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm definitely with you. I had a starting bmi of 43. SW 202 HW 220 CW 179. I lost 10# the first week and then 13# in the last 8 weeks. I guess I have to think about that it's still almost 2# /wk, which isn't too bad. I could never have done that before surgery. We just can't compare ourselves to the people who are losing that in a day because it's still a loss of more than 10% in about 2 months. Progress, not perfection! -

That's probably not enough calories, even at 900. What does your nutritionist say? -
Overweight Failure
SandyToes143 replied to kejamess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you aren't eating enough. -
Don't go crazy. Remember that you'll only be able to eat or drink a few ounces at a time. At first, you'll be lucky to drink one of those gatorades in a day! Plus, check the nutrition label on that. Don't they have sugar? Also, don't bother with protein bars. It'll be a while before you could eat one. Also, Almond milk doesn't have as much good stuff as you might think. I don't think it's worth it.

Thoughts and prayers with you. Praying comfort and peace.

Dating in 2017, what is "dating" mean anyway? lol
SandyToes143 replied to vsgClarese's topic in Singles Forum
Not ready to be in a relationship, but I'm curious about the possibilities out there. I'm almost where I'd have to describe myself as "average" instead of "curvy" or "a few extra pounds" etc. I can't blame my weight anymore and say that's why I can't find a decent guy, now it's more clear that my confidence was always the issue at the root of my dating problems. Going to have to take it slowly... -
Be strong. There's someone being inspired by you somewhere.

Back to basics and really doing it!

A bougie is an instrument they put down your throat and into your stomach while they are forming your sleeve. Larger sizes have fewer complications but you have a larger stomach, smaller sizes have higher risk of leaks or strictures but produce a more restrictive sleeve. Standard in the US is 32-50 and U.K. is 60. I looked it up. -
Setting myself up for failure?
SandyToes143 replied to PAstudent's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish I had worried more. I thought, it's only 5 m&ms. I can stop at 5. That worked for a while, but then it just made me test the limit and I found out I can tolerate sugar pretty well. That made me wonder what else I could have. I was sitting at my desk, eating m&ms by the handful throughout the day, (I'm a 5th grade teacher and there are 2 weeks left of school- can we say "stress?") I realized I was stress eating. The whole point of this is for me to make some new habits for coping. I realize there are certain foods that are just "never again" foods. Idk if you can relate. -

When I allowed myself a little bit of chocolate, I found it was a slippery slope. I've had to reel it in because it got out of hand. -

I hadn't had my surgery yet, but I had hyperemesis with my second daughter. I couldn't keep anything down. I found out I had either GERD or something else that I forget the name of. Anyway, zofran and a heavy duty acid blocker helped, but it didn't eliminate it. I have no solutions for you [emoji53] but I have LOTS of sympathy. -
I just lapped all of the couch surfers by a MILE! RUNNING! Pushing a double stroller with 70 pounds worth of love bugs! [emoji4] It cooled down to 75, and I have one princess with strep and an ear infection and the other was acting more like a troll because she really needed to sleep. It might've been a 15 minute mile, but I couldn't have run 1/8 of that in October. Thank you for all of your stories that inspire me daily. No matter what, if you had the surgery, you haven't given up. No matter how impossible this journey seems sometimes, we're all fighters! Can't stop won't stop! [emoji122][emoji123]

Help! How to get back on track?
SandyToes143 replied to nikkimapr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of surgery did you have? If it was VSG, I'd say to not only get yourself some counseling and a support group, but reset your pouch. Go back to your stage 1 diet and advance through the stages again. It won't work though if you aren't motivated and if you aren't motivated, you need counseling to figure out what the food is really feeding. I know I get really anxious when I lose weight. I'm not anywhere I haven't been before yet, still only 6 weeks out, but I know that for me my fat suit is more like an invisibility cloak. I don't feel like people are looking at me. I feel naked and vulnerable the smaller I get. Figure out what it is for you that makes you self-sabotage. -

Oh em gee!!! THANK YOU for posting this. Quote from a person close to me: "I would've thought you would have lost more considering what you had done!" This makes me feel so much better.
