OK so I'm approaching the 4 week mark post-op (May 3rd surgery) and I'm having difficulty eating more than a few bites of anything. Is this normal? I suffer for hours afterward as well because the food keeps trying to come back up. I'm even having issues with GERD long after I've eaten anything. My Doc's nurse tells me that the first 6 weeks are the toughest but really? At this rate I cannot understand how anyone can gain weight once they have done this surgery. I'm losing weight at the rate of half a pound a day! Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm only 4 weeks post-op but GERD is a real issue for me. I finally broke down and started taking my Nexium again. I still have issues after eating even soft foods but the Nexium is helping. I've work up a few times with that same feeling you have, which is the feeling of regurgitation and/or the need to vomit. I also have sinus troubles and have post-nasal drip which sometimes causes the GERD. Whenever my sinus's flare up I either sleep in a recliner sitting up or if you are fortunate enough and you have an adjustable bed you can sleep sitting up a bit. It helps.

I was struggling to find a protein drink with enough protein to fulfill my post op requirements yet not be so sickly sweet that it made my already queasy stomach worse but I've finally found it! I went to GNC and they have a line called Isopure that has a whopping 40g of protein, 160 calories, zero carbs. It comes in several flavors, grape, mango/peach, green apple, coconut etc but what is best is that the flavor is very mild, not super sweet at all. I wish I'd had these right after surgery. Love them! I also found the sub-lingual b12 and biotin chewables

Trouble with stabbing gas pains in my esophagus/stomach tube area.
neyney1960 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4 days post op and no matter how slowly I sip protein drinks and liquids I get these god awful sharp stabbing pains in my abdomen from gas. I am having real issues with trying to get the protein in too. I'm starving and my stomach growls like a wolf but the protein shakes don't seem to be helping. Does this go away with time? -
Has anyone had isopure protein juice??
neyney1960 replied to soon2bvsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See for me they were just what I needed. Plenty of grams of protein and a mild not super sweet flavor. I got mine at GNC. -

Anybody regret getting WLS?
neyney1960 replied to njgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my case my decision to have WLS discovered an issue that could have harmed me down the road so I consider it a blessing. I had my gallbladder removed in an emergency operation in 2014. The numbnuts doctor not only messed that up but turns out when he packed my abdomen( my gallbladder ruptured ) he packed it so tightly that in the ensuing 2 years my stomach and liver had grown together. That was only found during WLS. My surgery took an extra hour, introduced a lit of additional air into my abdomen and caused me days of nausea. I'm grateful it was discovered. -
Anyone become invisible after surgery?
neyney1960 replied to cb750's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think thats it in a nutshell! -
The nausea I had for several days post op was horrible. My worst experience however was the day after surgery. The Doc ordered an Upper GI and I had to gulp down that awful dye stuff! The taste was horrendous and on an already queasy stomach? Then they put you on this tilt table which makes everything worse! Once done the moment I got back to my room I was violently sick! It was so bad the nurses came rushing in. I will never drink that stuff again!

neyney1960 replied to skgirls2016's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I was frightened to have plastic surgery in Mexico but after looking at her website I have to say I'm impressed. I may use her for a full body lift once I reach my weight goal -
Carbs per day for weight loss

When I lost 80 lbs on the Medi Weightloss system they recommended 25g of carbs or less to achieve ketosis and boy did that work! -
Trouble with stabbing gas pains in my esophagus/stomach tube area.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. I had my first successful walk around the neighborhood this morning and am sipping my drinks very slowly. I still have the occasional gas pain but it's getting better. -
First 7 days post op with surgery complications.
neyney1960 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I had the gastric sleeve surgery on May 3rd. It took twice as long because my stomach and liver had grown together. I had a ruptured gall bladder 3 years ago and the surgery was botched so I have scar tissue. Because of the length of the surgery a lot of air was introduced into my abdomen causing me all kinds of nausea and gas/bloating issues. Here I am 3 days post op and barely able to get in any protein. I am trying to drink at least a bottle of water but it all makes me nauseous. Is it ok to not meet the protein goals during this period? -
Looking for someone over 50. Sleeve surgery coming up on the 17th. Tuesday

Hi I'm 56 and just had my surgery 5 days ago. I'm having trouble getting in the protein and my stomach rumbles all the time. I'm starving! Protein shakes try to come back up. I've been looking for protein drinks and unflavored protein but can't find any. I've been to Wal Mart and Costco. Can anyone tell me where I can get these drinks? -
I can also be a sleeve buddy. I had my surgery on May 3rd and live in North Texas

I don't know how Dr Now deals with these folks
-
I only started watching it recently but it does help me. If I find myself making the same excuses as the folks on the show I stop myself. The part that keeps me motivated is whenever I see those skin removal segments. Yikes! I have a small bit of "apron" left over from 2 pregnancy's and will have that removed once I reach my goal but having huge loads of skin removed is something I never want to deal with so yes I use the show as a cautionary tale of how bad it can get.

Almost at goal! YES!!!!

Importance of a personal advocate after surgery
neyney1960 replied to Nynjesq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My one complaint about the nursing staff was that they were giving me ice chips not ice water. When my surgeon saw that he flipped out. Apparently chewing ice chips introduces air to your stomach, something which I sure didn't need! There I was happily crunching away and wondering why I looked like a balloon ready to pop! -
2 Days post op
neyney1960 replied to MelissaRose24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 5/3 and was never more miserable post op in my life. My procedure was much longer because my stomach had attached itself to my liver and they had to separate them. This was from a badly botched gallbladder removal surgery 3 years ago. I have 6 laparoscopic incisions which look a mess. Because the surgery took longer more air was introduced i to my abdomen. I looked like a balloon ready to pop! I am just now getting over the nausea and vomiting. When they gave me that horrible dye for my upper GI scan I thought I'd lose it right there. I managed to get thru it and barely made it back to my room before throwing up. I'll telling y'all this because misery loves company and I think many of us newbs are dealing with these same horrible conditions. On too of everything else I've only lost a pound! I go to counseling for emotional eating issues and it helps a lot. I'm taking everything one day at a time and hoping for the best. Hang in there guys I've heard from everyone that the first weeks are the toughest. -
Protein Goal too low?
neyney1960 replied to dberthelot02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in the Dallas area and my Doctor has been voted one of the top surgeons in Dallas every year since 1992. He recommends 40g protein the first week post op then 60 after 8 days. That seems to be working for me. -

Did you have WLS? The audacity of some.
neyney1960 replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've been open and honest about my WLS with friends but then I thought why am I hiding it like I'm ashamed? I'm 3 days post op and decided to tell everyone on my facebook feed. I've gotten nothing but encouragement.
