You're lucky... it took me 11 days! Your body is just getting rid of all the junk. I wouldn't be too concerned unless it's dark black or bloody. If you're really concerned, give your surgeons office a call.

Don't be afraid of the gym! You're there just like other people to get healthy. A lot of people will offer advice and show you the correct way to do exercises. They're happy your there getting healthy too. If you can afford a trainer, look for a local small specialty gym. Usually there is two or three people around. Once you're confident, go to the big label gym.

I had horrible back pain 3 weeks after surgery. My doc gave me some muscle relaxers which helped. I'm completely pain free now at 5 weeks out.

Importance of a personal advocate after surgery
Nynjesq posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on May 1st. Had some problems waking my bladder up. I had to be straight catheterized twice. They ended up putting in a Foley catheter which made me miserable. One of the volunteers from my surgery group who had the surgery came to visit me. I explained what was going on. She said to tell them you want to stay another night and push the issue. On top of that, my mother was pushing me to stay another night. Of course, I wanted out! I finally came to my senses and realized I didn't want to have a catheter for a week. I said I want to stay. The resident who was on call said they wouldn't let me stay for a catheter. Then when I argued she got defensive and brought back another doctor. Again, the volunteer came back and intervened. The next thing I knew, she had my surgeon come back to the hospital. My surgeon (who I absolutely love) came and talked to me. He suggested we take out the catheter, stay another night and see if I could urinate. If not, I would go home with the catheter. I agreed. At around midnight, I started to go on my own! I am so glad I didn't have to come home with a catheter. The moral of the story is you have to have someone in your corner to fight for you. I'm so glad for the volunteer from my surgical group. Also at 39, I realized that Mom still also knows best! -
Starting stage 3 soft foods... looking for slow cooker recipes
Nynjesq posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I'm starting stage 3 on Saturday. I decided to buy a slow cooker. I want my introduction back to real food to not be boring! Does anyone have any healthy recipes for the slow cooker they want to share? I'm allergic to seafood, but would love some ideas. Thanks. -

Starting stage 3 soft foods... looking for slow cooker recipes

Instant pot is awesome. I had never heard of it until you posted. I'm amazed by all the things you can do with it. Made a simple meatloaf tonight and it was juicy and soft. I didn't even open the slow cooker box. It's going back. Thanks! -

I was 10 days before going. Doc told me to take stool softener (colace). It worked in a day and was gentle on stomach. -

5 days post-op with a fever
Nynjesq replied to romafiori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't panic! Just make sure you get a call back from the doctor on call. If you're fever goes up, go back to the hospital. -
Good morning all, I just started full liquids this morning. I had some plain yogurt. Felt ok. Got nauseous for a quick second after. I'm confused about the 30/30 rule though. My booklet from the doc says to begin it at this stage. But it's all liquids. Do you need to wait 30 minutes after yogurt to begin sipping fluids? What about soup? Thanks in advance. I've found these forums to be the greatest thing after surgery!

I got the lovenox to take home also. I've been doing it for 5 days already. It's so much easier than I thought it would be. I don't even feel it. The needle is tiny. I spent time before surgery worrying about it. In retrospect worrying was the biggest waste of time.

Don't be nervous! Just don't be afraid to say something if you don't like what's happening. It's easier when someone you trust is there to make a stink. -

I'm sorry for what you're going through. My condolences to Mr. Gold's family. There are some things in life that we cannot control. Take comfort in the great Mitzva you have performed by just writing this post. -
Not sure why shot glass was bleeped out!
-
I was sleeved 5/1. The best way they explained it to me was to sip fluids from a **** glass. One ounce every 30 minutes but slowly working your way to three ounces ever 30 minutes. I too have has massive gas, but it gets better every day. I find walking really helps take a slow stroll around the block or if it's raining walk around your house. The gas will come. I've almost had my 64 ounces today. I'll probably be well over. My sister also bought me the sugar free popsicles in red only flavors. Big fan!

Importance of a personal advocate after surgery
Nynjesq replied to Nynjesq's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the best nurses, and techs. It's just the interns, residents etc. They really should teach them about bedside manner. It really goes a long way when you're that vulnerable. As for your nurse, she should have been fired! The staff kept wanting to give me more pain meds so I would be up and walking laps around the floor! I have been trying to stay off the pain meds the best I can at this point. I'm down to one 4mg dilaudid every 4-6 hours. -

I bought these before surgery on Amazon. I was like you... wanted an actual book. It has some good advice and the recipes look pretty good. I haven't tried them yet...still on stage 1! -

It's really frustrating to be in that position. I'm just glad to be home on the way to recovery.
