Four weeks out I lost 25lbs.
Savagegirl replied to BlueGirl1920's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Awesome! I also lost weight fast. My muscle mass deteriorated quickly because i did lose it fast, so be careful. I am 9 months out and lost 150 pounds and actually need to gain some back. Go figure?! -
Typical is 6 months. I didn’t lose much weight before surgery and wasn’t told too. Just exercised more. I had to see a cardiologist twice, psychologist once, nutritionist each of those 6 months, and my surgeon or his nurse practitioner every other month. Time will go by!

6 Mos Post RNY-Diagnosed with Breast Cancer
Savagegirl replied to Savagegirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you. No radiation needed most likely said surgeon and radiation oncologist from PET and recent MRI but surgery pathology will confirm. Hoping not! -
Great! What are the reasons they will cover this? Potential infections under skin flap?

Show them your conference in your decision and lack of doubt, and they will be on board at some point. You do You!

6 Mos Post RNY-Diagnosed with Breast Cancer
Savagegirl replied to Savagegirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Updates: Just finished my last chemo on Monday! I lost way too much weight but will gain some back. I was never nauseous but wasn’t hungry and i think my pouch is too small as i can barely eat much, even 9 months later. Plus the whole altered taste during chemo... I’m half the weight i was 9 months ago. I’m having a double mastectomy on March 13, and then hope to recover and then focus on body strength and nutrition! -
I had one large one about a week after bypass and was back in the hospital for 3 nights! This was last May. I just had two more about 4 weeks ago and was in one night. I’m now on Protonix twice a day for two months, then once a day indefinitely. Some of us may be prone to them. I didn’t feel them but had lots of blood loss.

I’m 9 months out and cannot eat chicken (unless ground, in soups), scrambled eggs, any bread/pasta/rice, etc. I can eat all soft foods. Protein shakes and bars are needed but make me gag with the sweet tastes.

1 year out..seem to keep losing weight
Savagegirl replied to pixiespin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Me too! I’m 9 months post bypass and have lost 150 pounds. I’m 5’10 and started at 300. I cannot eat more than a tiny portion and denser foods like chicken, bread, pasta, or other meats will not stay down. I had that balloon procedure to widen my intestine from 9mm to 12mm two weeks ago but it feels the same size. -
Update 16 months out, down 100lbs! (photos)

Congratulations! You look amazing and thank you for posting the before and after photos for inspiration for others! -
Yes, just use a lot of veggies but not too much fruit. I love green juices with just enough apple to sweeten it up.

Dumping - did you take any tests?
Savagegirl replied to Angel2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No. I’m 9 months out and have never had it. I’ve had bites of sweets and a piece of bacon or something else fatty and it didn’t affect me, but it was a tiny amount. You may never get it. -
My doc has me taking 3 of the BA Multi Vitamins a day, not 2. (The ones with biotin as well). I also take Calcium Citrate 3x a day 2 hours apart from the Multi.

Have any of you had neuropathy come on due to B12 deficiency? Started off with the top of my right foot feeling numb for a few weeks and i thought it was my new shoes. Then later i couldn’t bend my foot up and down as much as before. (This came on before my first chemo session, so it’s not related to that, which I had posted about separately.) I’m 6.5 months post gastric bypass and have lost 115 pounds. Too fast! I’ve read that if you lose it fast you can become deficient more easily. I see my gastric surgeon once a month and brought this up last week. He gave me a B12 shot and we will do more to try and reverse this, but I’m worried. I have to lift my foot when I walk so as not to trip. I look like a show pony. Anyone had this and overcome it? I will get shots regularly now.

Surgery date 11/27; Surgeon says if liver too fatty, they will do sleeve instead of bypass. Anyone encounter this before?
Savagegirl replied to em1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Really try not to have ANYTHING off the plan. Even a few bites. You should be good on surgery date. It’s HARD because you are still hungry and want food. After surgery it’s still liquid diet for a few weeks but much easier when you have no hunger. Good luck! -
B12 Deficiency and Neuropathy Anyone?
Savagegirl replied to Savagegirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Oh I’m sorry. Sounds permanent. -
B12 Deficiency and Neuropathy Anyone?
Savagegirl replied to Savagegirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, but this started before my first chemo. I did expect the numbness in fingertips and toes but haven’t had that yet (had round #2 last week). My chemotherapy is Taxotere and Carboplatin. -

Thank you all for your advice and kind words of support. -
I’m 6 months out and don’t get all that fluid in. I may hit 40 oz on a good day. Just being honest.
-
Yes! It’s difficult enough to get the protein in. Six months post surgery and carbs are so hard on my stomach I still avoid bread, rice, pasta etc. It’s good as I don’t need them, but every so often I’d like a few bites without stomach pain.
-
Agree! Beans are a good kind of carb.

I had RYN 6 months ago and have never felt hungry since. I may feel weak at times when I haven’t eaten in a while. I’ve lost 110 pounds in that short time. I’ve read that we have a lot less gherlin (sp) moving around so we don’t feel hungry. I wouldn’t use that as your factor for deciding which to have. I think for higher weight loss and longer term weight loss, in general, RNY is the way to go.
-
Good luck and I hope she gets relief soon.

It will be here very soon! So excited for you. In a few short months you’ll be posting fabulous weight loss photos! Good luck to you!

Best tasting protein drink?
Savagegirl replied to vanwest83's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I like Premiere because it’s thin like milk. The thicker ones gag me. I’ve also had the Atkins shakes s few times.
