1 year 5 months after Bypass

Congratulations! You look amazing and sound like you feel wonderful too. Keep us posted about your surgery. Today is my one-year bypass anniversary so I’ll be posting before and after shots and my story too. I also love that yogurt! Keep up the inspiration!

    Anyone else anorexic?

I really hope you will get in to see a counselor very soon. Did you see one before surgery as part of insurance approval? You could go back to them? You are worth much more than your weight but I have a feeling that your depression may be related to much more. Please get help as soon as you can.

    Anyone else anorexic?

Yes! Me. Or getting there. It’s very frustrating. I’m having a second dilation in three weeks and hope this one takes so I can eat more. I had surgery a year ago and lost 150lbs, but too fast! I got very nutrient deficient and developed like drop foot a little. Can’t wait to get past this and hope this dilation works. I need to put on some weight. I’m very sorry for your situation and know it’s frustrating. My suggestion is to try and be more assertive about your need for counseling or care that will help you recover. I hope your primary physician can help even if your bypass surgeon won’t. Keep us posted!

    Endoscopic dilation - stenosis

It’s super easy and painless! I had it done about two months ago and need it again. I can barely eat 1/2 cup after a year and I can’t ever eat even a couple of bites of bread, rice, pasta, chicken, or any semi-dense food. The first one just didn’t solve it. How did yours go?

    Rapid changes in bra sizes!

Totally! I went down a few sizes in the past year after losing 150 pounds. I got super droopy! Went from a 44DD to a 38 Long, lol. But I just had a double mastectomy a month ago so I’ve got a fake set that is high and perky and will be the size I want when the final implants go in! I was going to need a major lift.

    Tespo vitamins

It looks great but the calcium wasn’t citrate (the one we need) and the levels of critical vitamins are too low. You’d end up needing to use more pods. $$$.
  7. I had an endoscopy for an ulcer and they found that my opening was only 9mm. I had a dilation a few weeks later to bring it to 12mm. It’s been 5-6 weeks and I don’t notice any improvement so they will go in again in about 2 weeks. (I just had a double mastectomy a week ago so need to wait). My questions for those of you that had dilations are what size were you stretched to and then how many dilations did you have until it “took”? My surgery was 5-8-2017 so coming up on a year soon. I’ve eaten mostly soft foods and tiny portions this whole time and can’t wait to add some variety into my diet.

    Size of Dilation?

    I don’t know so that’s why I’m asking.

    BCBS TX Approval

I have BCBS of Arizona and it was just a few days. 100% coverage!
  11. I’m a little over 10 months out and already needed one dilation 5 weeks ago and will get another one in 3 weeks as I can’t eat a lot. I’ve lost 150 pounds at least and don’t want to lose any more. I can’t eat more than 1/2 cup per meal but that’s softer foods like a yogurt or soup. I can’t eat any dense proteins really but ground meats and poultry ok in small portions. Maybe 1/4 cup max then feel very full! I can’t eat bread, rice, pasta and the like as it fills me up so fast and makes me want to purge. I’m glad in a way as we don’t need those things but a half a piece of toast with almond butter or avocado would be nice at times! I can make one scrambled egg and add lots of cheese to make it very creamy like risotto or cheese grits consistency and can eat half most days. Frustrating! Even taking all my vitamins fills me up. Hoping second dilation allows me to eat more. I don’t count calories but I’m sure it’s between 400-700 depending on the day. I don’t get enough protein or water. Sorry I’m not more precise and I know I’m one of the odd balls. Lost my weight very, very fast but really need to stop now.

    Getting there!

Congratulations! Seems like a carb-loaded meal with no protein?? I couldn’t eat a tortilla and rice even now at 10 months out. Would send me to the bathroom to purge!

    Surgery today

Good luck! I worried about that too but then you really do not have that hunger feeling after.

    EDG Experience

So strange that you weren’t put out! I’ve had two endoscopies since gastric bypass and was put out the whole time. I can’t imagine being awake or even under twilight.
  15. Hi - I'm about a week from being 6 months post RNY and I feel great. I have lost over 100 pounds and my surgeon tells me I will lose about another 40-50 before May 2018. Meanwhile, I was just diagnosed with breast cancer and start chemo/HER2+ treatment on Monday. Has anyone had chemo in the year following gastric bypass? I still cannot tolerate more firm foods like chicken and I felt a very full/hurting stomach if I eat some foods, even a few bites. (I don't eat pasta, rice, beef, firm fruit, etc.) I'm wondering if your meal choices were affected during chemo. Both my oncologist and my gastric bypass surgeon said to keep up the 80-100 grams of protein daily if I can, but it's ok to get it from more calorie-laden foods. I'm not worried at all about gaining weight back. I've lost a lot already and will lose more, but I'm looking for input from anyone who has been through chemo post surgery to see how you handled food intake. Thanks so much. (I will have six sessions of chemo.)

    Psych Evaluation

They want to see if you have addictions and compulsions that need to be addressed because surgery is just a tool. You will gain the weight back if you can’t control yourself. I don’t think they “fail” you but will want to work with you (the psychologist). Also, some people trade an addiction to eating to another thing, like shipping, drinking, smoking, etc.

    Hospital

Yes. I mean i went in last month with ulcers and ended up getting 6 bags of potassium in my IV over the 24 hours as it was really low. They told me to eat potatoes (sweet or white) and other things that i cannot eat more than a bites of with the new stomach! My surgery was May 2017.
  18. I will be taking a long-term pill like Tamoxifen but not sure which one yet.

Is it possible to do this for the "wrong" reasons?

I don’t think it matters but I would find it hard to believe that you don’t want this for yourself, too, deep down. Yes, it’s a huge change and that is hard to accept at times, but you’ve seen and heard about how much healthier people become, and how shopping is so much easier. You won’t regret it. Good luck!

    Perforated ulcer

I’ve been hospitalized twice with ulcers since my May 2017 bypass. One was about 12 days after surgery and i was in hospital for 4 nights. Second time was about 5-6 weeks ago and i was in overnight. No h pylori, no NAISDs, no smoking. Just ulcers at the connection sites (anastomoses). I was on carafate the first time and this time Protonix twice a day for another month, then once a day forever I guess. I just had lots of blood in stool both times as my sign. No pain. My heart would race and I’d feel very faint when i stood up. Glad you are home and recovering!

    Vitamin patches

My surgeon said to avoid them. Not proven to absorb to the level we need them. I returned my unopened packs here for a refund.

    Lite yellow stool

Yes. It’s been light brown for 9 months. Never dark like the old days.
