So weird! I didn't even have this test!! So glad I didn't, apparently! [emoji12]

I'm also surprised at how hungry I am, and how much I can eat (not quantity wise, but I can pretty much eat anything and it doesn't bother me). Kinda bummed about that as I'll definitely have to use my willpower, which isn't strong! I'm hungry every couple of hours. I'm 8 weeks out and down only 25 pounds since surgery, 35 total. Barely losing since week 3-4.

I think people understand when people are trying to change their lifestyles (surgery or not) and eat healthier. I was 10 days post op (still on liquids only) when my daughter's softball team went to pizza and I had to go. Pizza is my kryptonite!! But I'm obviously heavy, so I just had a glass of Water (while my husband ate an entire medium pizza!). I got a couple "you aren't having anything?" And I simply said "I'm really trying to be good" and it wasn't awkward at all. This happened a few times during my liquid or purée stage and I just said I ate earlier or explained I was trying to be healthier. No one really cares! I think if you are obviously heavy, people will be sensitive enough to maybe ask one question, but then leave it alone.

I had this, but on the right side where my largest incision was. Hurt like hell, then all of a sudden it was gone. I think at 5 weeks mine went away.

I was outpatient - they put the compression stockings on me for surgery....once I was walking around (about 2 hours post op, they took them off. I had no "breathing thing." Walking around is the best thing you can do.

My surgeon said no testing other than bloodwork unless there's a problem or he suspects there may be one. Also 98% chance there will be no drain either.
On a different thread, someone going the same day as me (OMG, that's tomorrow! Less than 24 hours from now! Sorry, just realized...) had to do bowel prep. I didn't.
Surgeon said no to all of the horrible things I had read and asked about. The only thing he was adamant about that surprised me was no driving for 7-10 days. He then said until he sees me, but that's 2.5 weeks! He then softened a bit and said that yes, it might be ok after I'm off pain meds, but "just don't make any plans" and told me to skip my therapy appointment scheduled for 5 days after. His nurse also said it might be uncomfortable to drive.
My surgery was 6/1 and I was driving 6/5. I stopped taking my pain meds by day 3 because they made me itch.

I'm also surprised by how different everyone's procedures/experiences are. I was outpatient, self-pay. No hospital stay. I didn't have any barium treatments, no weird thing to drink the next day. No drain. I was on liquid diet the first 3 weeks, and purée the next 3, then solid foods at 6 weeks. Very interesting how many different experiences people are having. My BMI was 40 when I started this process, and apparently that is on the low side for this surgery. Also, I had some bad pain at my main incision site for about 5 weeks. It hurt to roll over, cough, sneeze and anything using my abs. Felt like I was ripping something inside. All of a sudden that pain went away at 5 weeks. Strange all the differences in everyone's journeys!

What I wish I would have known before my surgery? That it's not going to work for me. I could have saved my $3000 and spent it on something more useful.
Your surgery was only $3000? Where did you have it done? I'm in CA and mine was over $16,000! I hope things turn around for you - are you eating mainly Protein and drinking lots of Water? Exercising?

I'm surprised at how slowly you lose weight! I was sleeved 6/1 and lost 19 pounds the first 3 weeks. And 4 pounds the next 3 weeks! I'm going to step up my workouts and hopefully that will get me going again but I'm really frustrated at this point!

Not really a plateau either. You are not going to continue to lose 19 lbs every 3 weeks. 1 lbs a week is considered normal weight loss if you didn't have surgery. It doesn't mean you are at a plateau after surgery, it just means that your body is catching up to the rapid weight loss you had the first 3 weeks. I'm 16 weeks out, and loosing anywhere from 0.5 to 4-5 lbs a week. It's still weight loss, not a plateau or a stall.
I get it. Whatever you want to call it, it sure feels stalled to me!
-
Just out of curiosity, how can you be in a stall of you have lost 4 lbs?
A stall is not loosing anything for 3 weeks or more.
Well maybe the better word is plateau. I lost 19 pounds in 3 weeks, then have only lost 3-4 pounds in 3 weeks. Seems stalled to me!

What were some of your favorite foods after the purée stage? I hate the purée stage!! I'm so sick of cottage cheese and yogurt and Protein Drinks. I get to "eat" beginning Thursday and I'm so excited! I don't love a lot of protein-rich foods...no seafood for sure! I've been making smooth chicken salad during this phase and I am over it! Tried a scrambled egg but since I'm supposed to only eat a bite every few minutes it quickly got cold and gross. Can I have a modified taco? Ground turkey or lean beef with seasonings, a little cheese and in a lettuce wrap? That sounds amazing to me! Would love any suggestions!! I'm 5 1/2 weeks out right now....surgery was 6/1 and I've lost about 23 pounds...have been in a stall for the last 2 weeks where I've only lost 4 pounds.

What do you mean netting? If you have an app that subtracts our exercise calories I would warn that they notoriously inflate exercise calories.
Thank you -- I meant that I ate 600 calories yesterday but walked almost 2 miles, which my pedometer said was 247 calories but MyFitnessPal said was 200. Anyway, I just started exercising because I had some pain at my main incision site, that's why I said I'm netting 500. 600 calories is about the most I'll get in a day.

I was sleeved on 6/1, lost 19 pounds the first 21 days and have lost 1 pound the last 11 days. Sounds like we were about the same starting weight. My surgery weight was 241. I'm 5'6. My doc says he expects that I will lose it more gradually than someone who started with a higher BMI. So I'm trying to be patient. I just started increasing my exercise and I'm hoping that helps.

Are you on an acid blocker??
I haven't been told to by my doctor but I have some leftover from a previous doctor, so I've been taking one the past couple of days based on what people are saying here. 20mg Prilosec. Doesn't seem to be helping the hunger.
-
I lost 19 pounds the first 21 days and have only lost 1 the past 9. So I'm definitely in it!
-
I've been insatiably hungry since starting puréed foods 8 days ago. If I eat, I get full but then am hungry again an hour later. ??

My faves: mashed cauliflower with a little Parmesan, with added Protein Powder. Same with zucchini. Also cottage cheese with sugar-free jam. I also get shredded chicken, put it in the mini food processor with 2TB plain Greek yogurt, a tiny bit of avocado mayo, and lemon pepper...a pretty tasty chicken salad. Re fried Beans hurt my stomach which was disappointing! For a treat I will have a teaspoon of Peanut Butter. I'll add unflavored Protein powder to sugar-free pudding.

I was sleeved June 1. Lost 19 pounds the first three weeks and now I'm in a stall. My doc said that since I started lower (241 surgery weight), my weight will come off more gradually. Of course the stall coincided with me moving from liquid to purée, and also I now feel hungry all the time. Like stomach growling actual hunger, which I did not expect. I'm probably only getting about 500 calories max in each day. I'm hoping this stall ends soon!! It was so fun to get on the scale and watch it go down every day....now I'm back to the "before" frustration of seeing the scale stay stagnant. I'm going to start walking more tomorrow.
hair loss after surgery
in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Posted
Mine started at about 9-10 weeks. I am now at 13 weeks and the hair loss is pretty bad. Luckily I had a lot of hair but I'm very concerned about how my hair will look if this continues until my weight "stabilizes." I take Biotin and silica supplements, to no avail so far.
