Any tips or words of advice.?? Surgery 7/21
StormJumper replied to NewCL's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As mentioned above this is an epic journey like the Odessey. I recommend that you don't get ahead. Don't eat or drink things you're not supposed to. You will be tempted. Also, invest in baby plates, cups, spoons. It is soo helpful. Don't get into the habit of weighing yourself, you will gain and lose by doing nothing and something. Buy some weights, if you're not up to walking sometimes at least you can strengthen your body. Most of all, be proud of yourself, it takes courage to go on this journey. Every day I have learned something new. Message me if you have a question. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using BariatricPal mobile app -
When will this nausea go away.... vent
StormJumper replied to LadyIris1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi I'm almost 2 months out. I had nausea for almost 4 weeks after surgery. It lead to me being dehydrated and having to get IV infusions. I also was not eating enough protein and my doctor was really concerned. It will go away, most people I have read and seen on YouTube had it go away after a week or two. Everyone is different. Just be careful and sip, sip, sip... soon you can drink 2-4 of at once. Though I can barely eat 1/2 a cup of food still but it gets better. No one in my support group understood either, they kept telling me to push through it... bit it doesn't work like that. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using BariatricPal mobile app -
I ate oatmeal a few times while on puree, my doc got mad when they heard. She said No Carbs because they are pushed into the intestines which can't digest them properly. So I haven't eaten oatmeal since. Sent from my HTC6535LVW using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi everyone, tomorrow will be my 1 week out. The past few nights I feel like I am just laying in bed. I can hear and feel everything. I don't think I'm sleeping. Is insomnia a side effect after surgery? Also, sometimes I feel like I'm shaky and maybe my heart is racing. I don't have an appointment with my surgeon for another week and frankly after all of the out of pocket expenses from surgery I'm broke and can't go see him until next pay check. Do any of these symptoms sound serious or normal to anyone? I feel like a zombie a little bit. The only thing I can think of is that I might be dehydrated as I am having a really tough time trying to get my 64 oz. Of water/liquids in. Can anyone help??[emoji30] Sent from my HTC6535LVW using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi guys, I had surgery 5/17/17 and am about a week and a half out. I don't visit the doctor until Tuesday. I am wondering if you can lose weight too fast. I am trying to not weigh myself like a fanatic but I was 305lbs on surgery day, today I stepped on the scale and am 283lbs... is this too fast??? I'm scared that it's dangerous. I am having a hard time eating my protein shakes and making sure I am drinking enough water but I've been walking about 2 miles everyday. Not a fast pace but there is a steep hill at the end that gets me breathing hard... honestly I have about 1/2 of my 8 oz. Protein shake and maybe some SF jello and egg drop soup. Any tips for me or something I'm doing wrong? Sent from my HTC6535LVW using BariatricPal mobile app

This is very helpful information. Thank you guys, I think I'll cut back on somethings. I am going to set some timers, I think this might help encourage me to eat. I have no hunger at all and it makes it really hard to eat anything because I just don't want to. I bought bottles with the ounces listed on the side so I am going to use this to track my water. On my discharge notes I noticed today it said to eat 5-7 small 1/2 cup meals a day. I have definitely not being doing this and I think as another poster mentioned I might be suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. I have been experiencing extreme thirst and extreme exhaustion and some lightheartedness when standing. It has been so difficult, I just do not want to eat... Its a weird feeling. I will try harder and keep you guys posted. I will reduce my walking to just a mile a day for now until I can get accustomed to this "diet". Thank you again for all the helping.

I think I am not eating enough yesterday o had 4 oz of protein shake, about 20 grams. Then I had some dairy free milk in the afternoon that's 8 g of protein and then I had some egg drop soup about 3oz around 7 pm and water and Gatorade zero in between. Today I have had a package of oatmeal that I almost ate all of. Thoughts?

If any of you could have had the sleeve done in your 20's would you?
StormJumper replied to rachel_babe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I am 28 and had my surgery 5/17/2017. I am glad I decided to do this at 305lbs. I do not have a lot of health issues currently but felt that I did this mostly as a preventative. The only thing that is hard is that I did not save up enough to cover the expenses from surgery and the time I am taking off of my full time job. I also decided to take the summer off from going to university to heal which has put me behind for graduation. However, I know of all of these sacrifices are going to be worth it. I will sleep better, I will be healthier and I will feel proud to be my sons mother and my husband's wife. I am doing this a little for cosmetic and mostly for my health in the future so I don't have to struggle with all of the problems I see weight alone can cause let alone the genetics that run in my family it could have been a nightmare to wait just 10 more years. Thanks guys, I did not think of my thyroid but have been tested for it before. I hope things pick up because I'm tired and want to sleep all day.

Don't be the Chicken & Cheetos Lady
StormJumper replied to Dr. Colleen Long's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Hmm, I always thought I was a food addict. A few of the things you said, I think that's not me. When the psychologist at my evaluation suggested I get back on my anti-depressants I did it right away. When she also suggested that I see a therapist regularly I scheduled as soon as she gave me her recommendations and still go twice a week. So now I am thinking I am more a long the lines of an emotional eater. -
Me either, I think it's going to be hard, but knowing if I don't do this they could postpone surgery after I've been waiting so long really helps motivate me.

Who are you telling (pre-op)?
StormJumper replied to Arthur Dent's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I have not told a lot of people. My spouse, my closest friends (3 people) and some coworkers. I haven't told my family because I had mentioned I wanted surgery before and they were completely un-supportive of the idea. I did tell my dad but that is because he had a sleeve as well and I look to him for support. As other's have mentioned, mentioning you're getting surgery typically results in a lot of people suddenly criticizing you because your exercise and dieting isn't enough. -
Hi, today I begin my pre op dieting and my dietitian said 2 protein shakes and 1 meal of 4 oz of a lean protein and vegetables. Only sugar free jello or Popsicle in-between meals. If anything, call your bariatric office and ask them what exactly does that mean.

May 17th is my day, I just started pre op diet today. My doc recommended 2 protein shakes and 1 meal of 4oz of protein and vegetables. I can't wait.
