Apps for After Surgery ?!
Lannie replied to ladycharizar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used a water tracking app for the first few weeks. I could set it to chime every 15 minutes to remind me to keep drinking. I don't remember the name but it was a free download. After 2 weeks I could drink normally, so I don't use it anymore. I also use myfitnesspal to track my protein intake. -
Mine picked up all of the slack regarding the housework for the first month. He normally does all of the cooking but he picked up the grocery shopping, laundry, dog walking, etc....and he did it with a glad heart! When I was craving soup instead of more protein shakes, he ran out to our favorite Indian place for take out. Longer term - my husband follows a food plan that is similar to mine - low carb. It makes it much easier to only have to cook one meal.

3 hr car ride day after surgery
Lannie replied to Sophie2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in a tri-level and did stairs without issue. It was actually good to force me to move. You should be able to take the car ride OK. If you take a pain killer before the ride, you'll probably sleep most of the time. Will the car seat recline partially? That may be ore comfortable than up right. -
I was very active pre-op. I do triathlons so I was training 5 days a week for several hours...people could never understand how I could be so active and still be obese. For me it was not as simple as calories in / calories out. I'm 8 weeks post op and I can drink normally again. I have started back to training...but at shorter distances and less intensive sessions b/c I just don't have energy for it. You should be fine just be realistic about how much you can do and how soon.

Is Post sleeve diet similar to Keto diet?
Lannie replied to nativenm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband eats Low Carb High Fat (LCHF). He eats high fat, moderate protein, and low carb. I eat high protein, moderate fat and low carb. It works well for us because we make one meal...he then adds some extra butter or oil or other healthy fat to his plate. Go to meals are Taco bowls, Egg Bakes, Baked pork chops, meatloaf, Fat Head Pizza You can find lots of recipes if you google LCHF -
Going back to work Post Op
Lannie replied to HDScarlett's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you would be fine returning to work at 10 days since you have a desk job. I was out of work for 2 weeks - a total of 12 days with weekends. A week would have been too soon, I was still tired but by 10 days I was ready to return. -
I would call the surgeon's office. Mine has an on all number and he was serious about wanting patients to call him. Are you able to see your PCP on Monday? You may not need to go to the ER, but I also wouldn't delay too long. I'd probably go in if for nothing else than peace of mind.

Clear liquid Diet for 2 days before surgery
Lannie replied to shalove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said that if I could see light through it ....it qualified for clear liquid. A lemonade would be better than fruit punch. I also did some of the isopure clear protein...that helped with hunger. -
8 weeks post vsg What are you eating?
Lannie replied to Niagaragirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Niagragirl: My doctor said that as long as I hit my protein goals -don't worry about the calories. Right now I couldn't physically consume enough to get to 1000 --- unless I was eating junk like milkshakes, etc. I would focus on getting your protein in for now. ZinNH: At 8 weeks you will be able to eat just about anything, just smaller quantities. Turkey will be on plan, just have a strategy for how to deal. I'm been out to eat with friends who don't know about the surgery... So far, my experience has been that people are so engrossed in conversation that no one notices that I'm eating differently. -
Opioid Malabsorption
Lannie replied to Akitamom01's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Would you pain management doctor do a conference call with your Bariatric doctor? Perhaps the surgeon can explain the malabsorption issues to your other doctor. Would it be better received on medical professional to another. I -

Lannie replied to Niagaragirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

At 3months, tablets should be fine. Tylenol is best. NSAIDs like Advil can cause stomach irrataion long term.

Best and Worst of the Soft Food Phase
Lannie replied to RedOrangeSunrise's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ate a lot of eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and hummus. I had spicy Indian tomato soup week one....not my best idea...didn't sit well. By the end of week 2, I was eating panang curry without problem. Spice is going to be trial and error. i also did Vsg...so it may be different for bypass. Good luck. -
Constipation with gastric sleeve
Lannie replied to Dashayj's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
My doctor recommended Colace because it is non stimulant and easier on the stomach . It was allowed starting week one. At 6 weeks, I was told to add benefiber to help stay regular. -
Weight Loss Surgery? No health Issues
Lannie replied to Tranea's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did not have any specific comorbities...I was "healthy" except for being morbidly obese. I knew it was just a matter of time before it my weight caught up with me. My surgeon said that because I didn't have a bunch of other health issues my recovery from surgery would be quick and easy. He was right...physically I feel great. Now I'm focused on making the life long changes to maximize the tool. -
A sleep apena test would require an overnight in sleep lab. That isn't one that they would just spring on you during the appointment. I didn't have to have a pulmonary clearance - but in the hospital had to meet with a respitory tech. They had me blow into a spirometer to measure lung function. If it wasn't within the safe level, they would have sent me home with oxygen.

At about 2 weeks, I could take normal sized drinks. At 3 weeks I could drink about 4oz at a time. I was on liquids only for the first week post-op. At week 2, I was allowed soft /pureed foods - eggs, yogurt, refried beans, etc. My energy level was better after I was able to add in some foods. As others said, you may need 4 weeks off work due to lifting restrictions. However at 4 weeks, you should be fine energy and hydration wise to return.

I'm six week post-op and have taken weekend trips. At six weeks, I don't have restrictions on types of food - I can eat out without any issues - just have to pick the restaurants. Diners and steak houses are easy - italian is hard but I can find a protein option. You will be fine. Enjoy your trip.

Sleeved today and doing great, but...
Lannie replied to Gabbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are starting to have an allergic reaction, I would discontinue use. Adding more into your system, even with benadryl, could make it worse. If Tylenol isn't cutting it, ask your surgeon for different prescription. I didn't experience bloating. I would assume that is just the gas use for the laproscopic procedure. That will lessen over the next couple of days. -
Another vote for Dr.Snyder at Rose. I've had a wonderful experience with him and his staff. I was impressed with how much time he spend with me during my consultation. He patiently answered my questions...My husband had concerns but was sold on the idea of WLS after meeting with Dr. Snyder. He is very cautious and ensures that patients are well informed before surgery. And so far the follow up care has been excellent - I'm 6 weeks post-op.

I also have BCBS of Illinois. I had to do a pre-op nutrition class, meet with the surgeon and have a psych eval. I was approved 10 days after the paperwork was submitted. I have a high deductible plan. After I paid my deductible, BCBS paid 100%. There are lots of plans under BCBS. When I started me research I contacted the customer service number and they emailed me a list of the "minimum" requirements.

Why do people recommend Gas-X post op?
Lannie replied to Kat410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I assumed it was misinformation that continues to circulate. -
Need advice on week 4 social eating situation
Lannie replied to shazwott13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would eat with the group...but request an alternative menu if needed. Talk and socialize....be prepared with a few quick responses if someone asks. If you don't make a big deal out of it....no one else will. -
4 days post-op and barely drinking
Lannie replied to Old2NewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to target 40 - 60oz fluids in the first week. By week two, I needed to be consistently getting 60oz. If you don't dramatically increase the intake tomorrow, call the doctor...dehydration is dangerous.
