    BMI is just at 40

My BMI is 38. My insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) will cover your surgery is your BMI is 35, if you have weight related co-morbidities, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, etc. If you do not have any comorbidities, then your BMI needs to be 40 or above. I did ask my dr about dropping below 35 and they told me that they report the initial weight when you begin. I suppose it depends on the insurance and /or Dr. Office.
  3. You will do great! You will probably get back to 308 in on the 3 day pre op, that 3 day prep will put you back on track.
  4. I agree! I have can't stop thinking about this pre-op. So, it just comes out of my mouth and I tell family, friends and yes even strangers. Facebook is the only place I do not share, but I don't share much on Facebook anyway.

    Thyroid

I just really want to get my surgery. It was scheduled for July 17th and I was in the middle of my liquid pre-op diet when they informed me that I could not have surgery until my thyroid is normal. The bariatrician was fine with it, but my primary care Dr. halted the procedure. I am praying that my levels get back to normal, so that I can do this before school starts.

    Thyroid

Hi, I know this post is a from last year. But my doctor just postponed my surgery because my thyroid dropped to 1.5. He has changed my levothyroxin dosage. But he will not allow me to have surgery until it is normal.
  9. I have been hypothyroid for over 20 years. Apparently, my TSH has dropped too low and my Dr. has to adjust my meds. My surgery was scheduled for July 17th, I was in the middle of my pre op diet and I received an email stating that my primary care dr will not allow me to have surgery until my levels are normal. The surgeon and bariatric clinic did not have any issue with doing surgery. My Primary put a halt to everything. My thyroid dipped down to .15. I am going to recheck in two weeks, does anyone have any suggestions on how to bring the levels up quick?
  10. Now mine is considered Hyperthyroid and I need it get to normal. I think my dr is overreacting. But unfortunately I do not have a say in this. Very frustrating! I got the news after not eating for two days! Needless to say I did not take it very well. I pleaded with him to allow me to move forward and he refused.

What a whirlwind! Surgery on July 19!

    Good luck and Congratulations!!
  13. Every surgeon seems to be a little different. At my surgeon's office it is dependent on your BMI. If your BMI is about 40, the diet is 14 days. If your BMI if below 40, your pre op diet will be 7 days.

    July 17th

Started liquid diet today. I am noticing how many food commercials there are, even on the radio! Wow! I am super excited, surgery on July 17th! Does anyone know how much weight I should expect to lose on the pre op liquid?
  15. July 17th as well!! I sit all day at work, so I am planning to return after one week. I talked to my boss and if I need to take some 1/2 days I will. I am very lucky to work with wonderful people!

    July Sleevers!!!

Hi, My surgery is July 17th. I just read this post and checked out the Vitaelph. OMG that is very expensive. My surgeon wrote a prescription for for my vitamins and he sent it in to Nutrition Direct. It is going to cost $25.00 pr/mo total and they will mail them to my house every month.
  17. I have been thinking about it since 2006. Every time, I would go on a diet and think I could do it myself. That has clearly not happened and I just keep getting older.
  18. That is very encouraging. My surgery is on July 17th and I have had GERD for several years. However, I WAS a smoker and now I will be losing weight. I hope that I am one of the people whose GERD gets better.
  19. I thought it was strange. But I found this in my policy .• Repair of a hiatal hernia at the time of bariatric surgery may be considered medically necessary for patients who have a preoperatively-diagnosed symptomatic hiatal hernia. • Repair of a hiatal hernia that is diagnosed at the time of bariatric surgery, or repair of a preoperatively diagnosed hiatal hernia in patients who do not have indications for surgical repair, is considered not medically necessary.

    Pre Op Liquid Diet

I will start mine on Monday and it is only for 7 days. As for losing too much weight, if you are already approved by insurance, you should be fine.
  21. I am scheduled for surgery in two weeks. My nutritionist says, clear liquid day of surgery. Next day start liquid diet including strained cream soups, protein shakes, calorie free drinks. When I am ready, I can move to pureed. All of this is with in the first two weeks.
  22. Hi, I received a wedding invitation a couple of weeks ago. I am not sure how reply. My surgery is on July 17 and the Wedding is on August 5th. I have no idea if I would be ready to attend a wedding 3 weeks after surgery. What are your thoughts?
  23. It will be fun! Thank you for all of you input. I think I will eat before I go.
  24. I will still be on soft foods, not sure what is on the menu.
