    Post-Surgery Check-In

Hi everyone! I received my band on Friday, May 9th. I was a little sore the first day but have been fine since then. I don't have an appetite at all. My experience at the hospital was pleasurable. I had to be at the hospital at 7:30 and I went home a little after lunch. The nurses said they had never seen a patient get around so good after surgery.

Thank you so much! Good luck to you as well!

Don't you hate it when people compare you with GB patients?

All I can say is AMEN! I probably would agree with Long to Be Free, and just freely give a quick education class. However, most of the people that are annoying me the most are those that speak with such conviction and act like they really know what they are talking about. Simple ignorance I can deal with, its the arrogance of many that do these comparisons that I am sick of. So again, I must say, "right on the money Nikkikki!"

Bean Bean, I know what you mean. I told my dr that I am not trying to be a swim suite model! Everyone in my family is extremly thin and i DO NOT want to be walking around in a 4/6. An 11/12 works for me anyday! Good luck with your procedure at the end of the month!

What an awesome accomplishment! Keep up the good work. I get my band on Friday and can not wait to shop in the "regular" stores and pay "regular" prices. Keep up the good work!

A dilemma, I have an overweight child...

I completly feel your pain. I am scheduled to get my band next week and also have an overweight child (10yrs girl). Originally, I was not going to tell her what I was doing because she has a poor self body image and obsesses about weight. I did not want her to think that surgery is "the easy" way out, or to think she could also do the same. She found some paperwork about the procedure and informed me that "she knew what I was doing." I was very honest and told her the truth. I don't know if I would get so in depth with a six year old though. I would make things as simple and age appropriate for the little one as possible. When she gets a little older, you can explain a little more. I would just emphasize how important it is to be healthy and make good food choices. Try not to make it too complex. She will most likely take what you give her. Good luck!

Thanks Grace, I will try eating before flight and pray I do not get sick from the altitude!

    Keeping it a secret?

I am scheduled to get my band on May 9th and have been very open about my experience. If my jouney can help one person that struggles with obesity than my experience is even more valuable. I know people that have had WLS and tried to keep it a secret and they constantly have people talking about them behind their back making statements like "does she really think we don't know!" The thing to remember is, most people know or speculate anyway. I feel better shedding a positive light on this procedure and confronting the haters head on!

    High altitude.Does it effect band?

Wow, thats scary. I am scheduled to get my band on May 9th and have to fly to Arizona on June 5th for a wedding. Now I am scared to death to fly. I don't want to be sick the whole time I am there.

    Surgery on Friday

Are you use to having caffiene everyday? Not having it for the past few days might be the reason for your headaches.

    Approved!

Congratulations! I found out today that I am approved as well. I know what you mean about being so excited you don't know what to do. I told my co-worker, "if I wasn't so durn fat, I would go outside and turn cartwheels!" Much success to you in your journey and God Bless!

Anyone get covered with Blue Cross insurance?

My best friend has Antham BCBS and she was approved last week the next day after the surgeon faxed her paperwork to Antham. All they required was a letter of medical necessaity from the surgeon. Good luck!

Blue Shield Ca- Help, 6mo. Diet Really?

It depends on what is stated in your policy. If it is specific that the diet MUST be dr. supervised, than there is no way around it. Check with your benefits coordinator at work to clarify. Some BCBS contracts only state that you have to be on a STRUCTURED diet for six months. In this case, they will normally just take your weigh in logs from weight watchers. It is all in how it is worded in your contract. Check with your employer. Good luck!

    A little discouraged...

I really feel your pain! I just started in this journey as well. The best advice I can give is to try not to get overly anxious. You will read post from individuals on here that were approved by their insurance in 2 to 3 days, or someone that had the surgery 3 weeks after attending their seminar. Try not to get fixated in other peoples experience and enjoy your own. Every experience will be different and unique. That is what I have had to realize in this whole process. Good luck to you!

Anthem BC/BS VA (too good to be true? ......)

Boy are you lucky! It sounds like you are on your way. Do you know if J. Bond was at WW on Saturday?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA

I have never heard of anything so crazy. I have had several different insurance companies in my adult life and all policies were governed by a state other than the one that I lived in. I currently have BCBS of Maryland but live in MS. I have to follow BCBS of Marylands guidelines not Mississippi's. If I were you, I would check with a different surgeon. Good luck to you!

    6 month diet...little white lie?

Thanks everyone! I just found out that they will take my weight watchers records in lieu of the dr. supervised so all is well again. Thanks for the support!
  23. Does anyone have any stories they can share of creative ways to get around the six month, dr. supervised diet that my insurance company requires? I can not wait six month, I need to get on that table ASAP!

    6 month diet...little white lie?

Yeah, you are right. I am just frustrated and needed to vent after the call I just got from the dr.

    O.M. Goodness My Co-Worker...

My best friend is going through the same thing with a co-worker of hers. You keep up your good work. She just wants everyone fat and miserable! She should get on the weight loss band wagon or get the #@#% out the way!
