  1. I am 3 weeks post op yesterday for the Sleeve. At my 2 week check up, I had lost 23 lbs. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it through the first 2 weeks. Physically, I was making it through with flying colors !!! No issues, no problems, no pain.. nothing. I stopped the pain medicine the day after I arrived home and just took Tylenol. I am thankful that my surgery went so well.   I felt so good and as if nothing had happened ( and I also had a hernia repair at the same time) ........  BUT....the liquid diet after was horrific for me. I didn't feel full, I just stayed starving and hungry the entire time. It did an emotional number on me. I had Mothers Day to celebrate and fathers birthday to celebrate with a family of eaters. We go "out to eat" for everything !!! A trip to the store for goodness sake, they get something to eat. Yes, you can always bring your own soup... but for me... sitting at that table while t he appetizers and food and deserts are flowing was absolutely HORRIBLE. I just couldn't do it. I would often excuse myself and walk outside or keep taking trips to the bathroom just so I could be away from the table and the food or go sit in my car and cry.

Now, I am 3 weeks post op and I have learned that I don't go. I summoned the courage to tell my family " This is just too hard". I will return with them at the table when I can handle it ... and every day is getting easier... So, when my family gets together on the weekends or evenings for shopping or the zoo, or visiting antique stores ( family hobby)... I ask ahead of time if they will be stopping to eat.. If they do, I take my own car and head home at that point.

I guess my point to this is that no one thing works for everyone. You need to figure out what works and what doesn't work for you. We have diet guidelines but we don't have life guidelines. We have to figure out how to get along in this world after wls  and that isn't always easy. But, if we keep our eye on our goals and realize why we are doing this in the first place, we can make it. This is a journey. We didn't have all the answers before and we won't have them now...But with support and courage, we can find them.

Hopefully once you are on solid foods and can partake again, this will be better. But you are figuring out your coping skills, and that is great! Baby steps ;)

  2. I am only 1 week post op and I totally agree. I am definitely in the buyers remorse phase. I am starving. Not having any problems .. just regretting everything. I did everything I could to mentally prepare myself for this but I just want to give up. I don't have the full feeling and not having dumping syndrome. Basically, I feel like I could eat anything at this point even though I know I cant.. I am definitely in the same regretful stage as you. I miss eating terribly. I just try to stay focused on the future and I keep telling myself that it will get better. It doesn't feel like it right now but I know it must get better.

    Baby Food?

I was also told to stay away from baby foods. I am 1 week post op and still on liquids. My surgeon and nutritionist doesn't allow fruits and vegetables until after 1 month... not even pureed.
  4. I have a desk job and I went to work 4 days after surgery. I had literally no problems at all. Didn't even have to take pain medicine after discharge.. I stayed one night in the hospital and was discharged the next morning. I was walking at my own request 1 hour after being put in my room from recovery. I fully understand that not everyone was like this but for me , the surgery was very easy.
  5. I ma 1 week post op and I am not experiencing a full feeling. I am not feeling any discomfort. I am not experiencing any nausea. I basically have to stop myself from drinking too much liquids or too much soup. I was told that it would be difficult to get anything down.... NOPE... I was told that I would have to MAKE myself get the protein drinks down each day.. NOPE.. I can drink a 12 oz protein drink in one sitting with no problem... Of course, I don't do it but so disappointed that I feel NO discomfort of full feeling at all. I was up walking the same day with no problem and went through surgery with flying colors. Anyone else struggling with not feeling full ??? So depressed and disheartened at this point. I feel like I am starving myself. I am miserable.
  6. I am not at all saying that I am relying on being full to lose weight. I am just merely asking if anyone else is still experiencing the same thing. I have no problem drinking an entire protein drink down without any discomfort and nothing coming up. No problems with anything. I don't feel full, I don't have any discomfort. My recovery has been basically pain free. I was a tiny bit sore the first 2 days but never took pain medicine after getting home. I took Tylenol the first day I was home but only 1 time. I am thankful that I have been issue free and pain free. I had psyched myself up for some discomfort and pain and felt like a million bucks 3 days after surgery. But, the liquid diet is KILLING ME because I am not full. Not after the protein, not after drinking water, not after soup.. NOTHING. I feel like I am starving myself. I am still hungry.... That being said.. I am not giving into anything and have done everything that I am supposed to be doing. It is just extremely different than what I thought. I feel like I never had surgery and just decided to start starving myself and go on a liquid diet. that's how I feel.
  7. i am one week post op and starving !! I am not experiencing the fullness that most people talk about. I am not experiencing any nausea. No full feeling. No nothing. I am having to stop myself after 5 oz of liquid because I fell nothing.

Remember, liquid passes through very quickly. I found that the premier protein shakes helped me feel satisfied longer because of the high amount protein they have. Also, thick chicken broth was satisfying. I didn't really get the full feeling, never had any nausea or complications, and no pain at all from VSG. I was back at work a couple of days post op. Once you start with soft foods, you will notice the full feeling. I was so surprised at how quickly I felt full once I started advancing my diet. Because my surgery and recovery went so well, my surgeon allowed me to advance my diet as tolerated at my 1 week follow up appointment. I'm now 3 weeks post op and eating solid food. I still have two shakes a day to make sure I get my protein and now that I'm eating, I've started noticing the full feeling from my shakes as well. Remember to drink as much water as you can, it gets more difficult as you introduce foods back into your diet and can't drink while eating.

You won't feel much at all while you're still on liquids, especially at just one week post-op. Keep measuring and portioning as you move into soft/purees...when you get to solid proteins like chicken or beef, then you'll feel the effect of your restriction. Chew a billion times, eat very slowly and remember to restrict liquids before and after meals. Good luck!

I'm the same, 8 days post op. Since about day 3, no trouble getting in liquids. Actually have hunger pangs too. Other people in my practice said that lots of folks so well with no pain and trouble with liquids. I'm taking it as a good sign.

  8. "My surgery countdown is on. I have 7 days until "Go Time" Of course, I am reading a whole bunch and getting prepared with the shopping list and mentally as much as I can... But I was wondering if everyone is sent home with an abdominal binder ? I keep coming across it on some the sites that I visit and some people saying that it works really well and helped them. I was wondering if it worked for anyone else ? Also, are you sent home with one or would I purchase this separately ?
