Anyone live in the Puget Sound in WA?

So excited for you! Are you going thru the program in Seattle at Swedish? I'm from Puget Sound area, but now living just a few hours South in Oregon. Quite a few of my friends are more local to you & have had their WLS up there. Your fears are normal. The next few days are going to fly by as you get ready. You will succeed! Follow the recommendations of your surgeon and the plans from your NUT. Your new tool will make all the difference in the world. I was worried about the same. Try to avoid comparing yourself to others postop when people around your surgery date start posting pounds lost. Everyone is different! Slow is NOT bad [emoji4]. One woman had spectacular rapid WL compared to mine & we had same DOS. I was worried my surgeon was going to rip me a new one at my 3 mos follow up. He pulled out a graph & colored in where I was. Turns out I really was doing well for me. Even if someone is same height/surgery weight, keep in mind that there are different metabolisms, muscle mass, bone mass, food plans, etc. like I said, my weight loss is slow number wise. I workout weight training 2 days a week to build muscle & then cardio 3 or 4 days. Muscle weighs more. Didn't dawn on me when I was at the store today... how can I be 201 lbs and gone down to a size Large??? So excited! Look for the non-scale victories. Most of all, enjoy your new life and the new healthier body!!!

What's in your over night bag ?

Our hospital provided toothbrush, toothpaste, face soap & hand soap. I packed a lot (good to be prepared!), & the things I actually used were charger cords, extension cord for the chargers (good thing I brought it!), headphones, iPhone and Kindle reader, and Biotine mouth spray, and lip balm. REALLY glad I picked up the Biotine at the drug store at the last minute. My mouth was so dry the first 24 hrs (no sipping allowed by my surgeon till day 2). I was surprised the spray would help that much. Oh & I also brought a dress to wear home. Was glad I did. My stomach was still so swollen from the extra air and the surgery itself that putting on the pants I wore in was very uncomfortable. Switched to the dress & much more comfortable. I'd also recommend earplugs. I brought them, but scored a room at the end of the hall that was nice & quiet. Never needed them. Most important for me was my phone for music, my Winnie the Pooh pillow buddy for my stomach for coughing, & the extension cord or my chargers would not have reached.

    Hello

So sorry you have been through so much. I was not aware I even had a hiatal hernia till after surgery. Just figured all obese people felt the way I did. The reflux was to the extent that my doctor ordered a preop endoscopy. Found out I have Barrett's Esophagus. Good news is that my RNY bypass on 7/13 repaired the hernia and has now fixed the GERD so it will no longer speed up the progression of the Barrett's. Plus I would not have known about the Barrett's if it were not for my surgeon. There's been some very minor complications here and there, but I have no regrets at all. And the way my health was going due to my obesity? I had compendium risks either way. Hope this helps & keep posting questions!

    Saying hello

My surgery will be 3 weeks ago on Thursday. All docs are different. Mine has us do 3 phases of 2 weeks each. I'm in phase 2 now, "very soft foods". But I still need the protein shakes, Greek yogurt, etc to make up the protein I need. The food is such small portions that I'm not able to get enough protein out of it. Food I can eat right now is 2 ounce servings of one of these: scrambled egg whites (Egg Beaters), cottage cheese, potatoes, Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, refried beans, stuff like that. Hope this helps!

    First Real Food Today!

The eggs went well yesterday! Although at the end of the night, I calculated out 10g protein short for the day. Made hot cocoa with skim milk. Feels very wrong to force myself to eat or drink when I have no hunger. I'm supposed to add one new food per day. Had my eggs for breakfast, so today's new food will be cottage cheese (with pepper, of course).

    First Real Food Today!

Went pretty well. I couldn't finish them yesterday. Today I went slower with my small bites and made sure to chew more. Never paid attention to chewing scrambled eggs before. I think I use to chew two or three times & swallow. Not anymore! & yes! I'm definitely a pepper monkey!

what is your ht/wt and clothing size?

Hi! I'm 5'6" and two weeks postop today. My highest weight was just over 300 & I was a size 26. Had lapband 12/2009 & got down to 170 & size 12. Leveled off at 185/size 14 & felt good. Lost lapband 10/2014. Worked out [emoji123] at the gym hard but weight still crept up to 276/bursting a size 22. Went back to surgeon for RNY. Current weight 233/size 20.
  8. RNY Bypass was 2 weeks ago today. Can't believe how far I've come in just two weeks! My surgeon has food "phases" each lasting two weeks. Phase 1 postop is liquid only (No liquids on day of surgery, water on 2nd day after upper GI confirming no leaks, & then ease into protein when possible. Jello, yogurt, and Pudding are okay in this phase. Phase 2 is "Very Soft Foods" & that starts today! My first meal is 1/4 of Egg Beaters. Fingers crossed!

    Conversion- Worth it?

Hi Sarah, Totally worth it. Banded 12/2009 at approx 275lbs. Highest weight was 302. Band for me down to 175 & I leveled off about 183lbs. 2012, I had my first band slip. 2013 was a major slip & then herniated my stomach 2014. I also now have Barrett's Esophagus. Band had to be removed on emergency basis 10/2014. They kept me overnight. Nurses offered more pain meds the. Ext day, but the pain was actually less at that point than it had been when it was still in. RNY bypass 9 days ago. It was a a difficult decision, but I've had no regrets. Take care. Keep posting questions and reading others posts. ~Amy

    ONEderland!

    That's awesome!!'
  12. My pre-op was 14 days. No workouts. Talked with my trainer about it & he decided against it given the minimal calorie intake. Good decision. I was so tired. Took all my energy to get thru the work day. Lost 12lbs.

How much time in the hospital?

Bypass for me, but they ended up doing a hernia repair when they are in there. Surgery first thing Thursday morning and home late Saturday.

    Plexus

Not the Plexus SLIM. A friend of mine is a rep for Plexus. We talked about it. But since my plumbing has only just been re-routed last week, agreed it would be better to just let the RNY do its job. Their vitamins would probably be fine if they have everything in them required by your Nut. ~Amy
