    Medical Alert Bracelets

We just had our last pre-op class at my surgeons office and the recommended the medical alert bracelet. When I looked at some on amazon.com, there were some nice looking ones that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Under $50. A few under $30. Last year I was t-boned by a speeding car running a light. They rolled my Prius. When EMT's grabbed my wrist I couldn't figure out what he was doing & a little combative (embarrassing. But my brain was scrambled). Anyhow, they later explained they were checking the bracelet I was wearing to see if it was a Med-alert.
  3. Hi all, I'm preop and set tog 7/13 bypass surgery. My husband is wondering what typical meals I should be eating (typical dinner) once my stomach is completely healed. I had a lapband in 2009 to 2013 that did great right till it slipped bad and had to be removed. He's wondering what will be the difference in foods as compared to when I had the band.

10 months post op and hit my 100#

Really appreciate it. I'm going off diet sodas and caffeinated coffee in June. Figured it'd be easier on me (and my coworkers [emoji6]) if I get decaffeinated before I start the pre-op liquid diet.

Typical meal a year out from RNY?

    Very cool. Thanks catwoman7.
  7. When we're in Mexico, we try to tip as well as we can afford. $1-$2/ drinks, valet, taxi. We leave a little more for the hotel maid if we're there for more than a day & also a little more at meals.

10 months post op and hit my 100#

Thanks so much for posting! My band was removed 3.5 years ago. I'm scheduled for RNY on 7/13. The doctor told me progress could be slower since I had the band before and depending on what any possible scar tissue may look like in the stomach. I'm nervous, but I'm trusting my surgeon. Thanks again! Amy
  10. Sounds like you are doing really well & I'm so impressed your focusing your energy on listening to what your body needs. Hope I remember that when it's my turn. Congratulations & thanks so much for helping us other newbies with the info you shared.

    Liquid diet breakdown

So if your on the East Coast then you've made it through another day! & if you're on the West Coast, then you're almost through it! Try to take it a day at a time and when that's too much, just focus on getting through each hour. Keep us posted, k?
  12. You've done so fantastic! It's going to get even better now!
  13. Got mine 12/2009. Worked fantastic. Slipped early 2013 & finally lost mine 10/2013. I'm now set for RNY in July. My surgeon at our local center who did my band will not even place them anymore.

    7 days out

Go easy on yourself. It may be easier if you look at it in one week increments. You are 7 days out from surgery and down 8.6 lbs. That would qualify as dropping quickly. You're doing great! Celebrate cuz that's pretty freakin amazing!
  17. Hi Debbbiee, My band is already out 4 years ago. I was a self-pay. Our insurance sent me to one of their doctors to take it out. Conversion was not an option because they didn't cover it. If it had been my lapband surgeon who removed it, then he would have wanted me to go thru NUT classes and see the psych - not for more testing but to discuss the major changes coming up, etc. You're at the point where I was in that it's becoming urgent for you with the aspirating at night. So I would expect you may have a few appts to take care of, but I would not expect it to be a 6 mos process while you're laying there aspirating & more damage is happening to the esophagus. Do you have an appt to talk to your surgeon about it now that you have the EDG results?

    Almost to my Goal!

I am so excited to for you!!! Thanks for sharing!
  21. 50 is coming fast for me. 7 more months. I was a lap band steer for 4 years till major slip wouldn't go back into place. On my own for the last 3 years. Insurance change & scheduled for my bypass 2 mos from today. Yikes!
  22. 1) there are some great doctors in Mexico & I'm really excited for you! 2) Sleeve is a great surgery. 3) Sleeve is not a good option for a reflux patient. I also had a lapband for 4 years and loved that little bugger. Some problems with reflux off/on. Was setup to be a mentor for other bandsters at the surgeons office. Had tummy tuck & breast reduction at a different hospital with pretty violent vomiting & my story went the same as yours. It's about 3 1/2 years since removal. From size 12 to 22. Pulled out my size 26 pre-op "fat pants" & called my surgeons office... for a Sleeve. He's ordered lots of tests and scopes & there is permanent esophagus damage. He said no Sleeve explaining how acid will still form & given the Sleeve is tube, it is pressure system for the acid straight shot up to travel. Sounds like you do your research, please continue it & really consider this. Each procedure has its + and - 's. If there's a section on this site for people with problems with specific surgeries, maybe read thru those and see if there's anything about reflux. Or google the question. It's not just the discomfort of the reflux, but I've learned the hard way it's the damage the reflux can do over time to your esophagus. Sorry, I definitely don't want to direct your decision. Talk to your doctors & you'll know you've made the right decision when you feel peace about it.
