    Finding myself

I am a well educated graduate level nurse with experience in mental health and I work with patients who are struggling emotionally and pts who are mentally ill. A personal note....i have been taking an SSRI for 14 yrs, my 19 yo daughter has been on it for 5 yrs. In fact, there is such a chemical imbalance throughout the family....several of us need the SSRI to function normally. Y would you tell someone to not take something prescribed by their Dr. Would you tell a diabetic to not take their insulin because the body will end up craving it....well duh!!! The body needs the insulin...same concept with a SSRI. PEOPLE LISTEN TO TRAINED HEALTH CARE STAFF. IF YOU NEED A PILL TO GET YOU THRU THE DAY THEN SO BE IT!! I WORK WITH CANCER PTS TOO. WE GET MANY WHO DON'T WANT TREATMENT BECAUSE OF WHAT A FRIEND TOLD THEM....OH GEEZ ..THEN 3 MONTHS LATER THE PT NOW HAS METASTATIC BREAST CANCER...IF ONLY SHE TOOK THE MEDS THE DR RECOMMENDED INSTEAD OF SMOKING DOPE AND EATING ALL NATURAL , THEN THE MASS COULD HAVE SHRUNK VS BREAKING THRU THE SKIN. NOW THAT PT IS DEAD!!! TRY THE MEDS PEOPLE!!! Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I have read several other posts about the 3 week stall. I had surgery 4/18/17. Lost 15 lbs my first week, 7 lbs my 2nd week...and one whole pound this week. I'm going back to work in the morning. When should the weight loss start increasing again? PRE SW 306 SW 297 CW 274 Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm slowly starting to get better. I'm still taking it slow, but going to try to go back to work on Monday. I'll be 3 weeks post op. Water has been the hardest...but drinking more each day. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

I was also sleeved 4/18. I have had several episodes of regret...especially walking through the grocery store with my family who can eat. I've actually gotten angry at my partner to for getting milk duds. Then I think about my health and things get a little better. One day at a time! Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Struggling with the decision

I'm interested to know where you got your statistics for wls death rates. Death is a very low risk with this surgery. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Drain and catheter?

You need the drain to get rid of excess fluid in your abdomen from the surgery. My surgeon doesn't do urinary catheters anymore, and most shouldn't due to the risk of infection. The abdominal drain is needed. I just had mine removed today, day 8 post op. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

I have the premier powder. Made one shake and it was too frothy. Do you think ice would help? Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

Thank you for the response. I had such a better picture of post op in my mind. I know and hope it will get better. Where are you in the process?

    Sleeved 4/17/17

I had surgery on the 18th. Had terrible post op nausea and vomiting so couldn't even keep anything down until day 2. Still on pain meds and it feels like someone is tugging on my intestines on the left side. I've been on oxygen since I left the hospital so it has been hard to go anywhere. I am glad to hear your surgery went well. How you described your experience is what I anticipated, but that didn't happen! Keep up the great work! Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I finally took the step to get the gastric sleeve. I am 5 days post op and having a hard time drinking my protein shakes. I didn't expect so much pain. I have already lost 12lbs in 5 days. Is this too much? I have a cousin and uncle who had bypass over 15 yrs ago so it is hard to compare stories. I have struggled my whole life with weight and am disgusted with myself....but now feel regret. Any ideas to help me gain more strength to get through these first several weeks?
