Hi, everyone. I was sleeved a week ago and am getting 320 - 380 calories/day (from 2 Premier Proteins and sometimes a sugar-free pudding). I'd love to get a sense of other folks' experience here and tips for getting more calories to function. I'm feeling great in every way except energy and want to be sure I can go back to work fairly soon! (Scheduled for next week.) For reference, my current diet is "protein liquids" -- what's allowed are protein drinks, water, fat-free or 1% milk, yogurt, sugar-free pudding. I'd love to use milk for calories and protein but I've been trying and it smells rotten to me! Same with yogurt. I read another thread where some other folks had the same issue shortly pre-op. I tolerate the pudding well, but don't want to do more than 1/day because of all the fake taste. Any ideas for non-fake-sweetened liquids with some calories? Starting Wednesday 5/10, I'm on purees and think that'll help.

Calories at 1-2 weeks post-op

Great progress! Who knows what things affect us for a day or two--hormones do some wonky things. -

Can I ask what kind of protein you're using? It seems like it might have more to offer than mine. -

Thanks! I'm hitting 60 g protein via two Premier Protein but maybe I should try adding a third (or half of a third) since I'm feeling so low-energy on the two. -
When were you allowed low fat cream soups?
Lizzle replied to FatPharm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
We're sleeve buddies! I was one week ago today, too. I've been allowed strained cream soup "with no particles" since day 3 but have only tried it once as straining to a smooth consistency wasn't easy. Starting Wednesday (day 10), I'm allowed "pureed soup and add a dollop of sour cream for flavor." I'm encouraged to mix protein powder in the pureed soup. -
I'm surprised by the exhaustion, too. Sleeved on Monday and sleeping a LOT. Not sure how people go back to work in a week--I don't feel like I'll be ready on Monday to go without naps! With the swelling/tightness/heartburn, I'm only getting in two Premier Proteins + 50 oz Propel water/day, so only 320 calories. Excited to start getting in MORE for energy but it sure is a challenge. Getting easier every day, though, and best part is this has been basically pain-free. Just some discomfort. Struggled with nausea the first day and they almost kept me longer, but it's gotten better. 3 days 'til puree, which I think will help me a lot.

I go for my surgery in the morning! Still feeling mostly excited about the long-term and not too worried about the short term. I went to a baby shower today with cupcakes, fancy popcorn, crackers and all kinds of other things and I wasn't even tempted--guess that means I'm already starting to make better decisions and am determined to do this. At least I hope that's what it means!

I'm curious if anyone is planning to use Gatorade G2 during post-op liquids. I see a lot of people on YouTube including it in liquid grocery hauls, but the stats on the kind I bought show too much sugar for my guidelines: 12 grams of carb, all sugar. 5 is my max. I got a little nervous bc my nutritionist said I could drink it and when I asked what about the sugar, she said there's no sugar in it. Is there a different type I should be looking for? My plan is to not drink it but use Vitaminwater Zero instead when I want some non-plain-water flavor.

I do but I forgot about it, so thanks for mentioning!

Gastric sleeve as outpatient?
Lizzle replied to MSinger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is considered outpatient but I'll be there until about 5:00 am, so probably close to 24 hours, and getting IV fluids right before I leave. -
I'm on my pre-op diet now, which only requires staying under 40g of carbs/day and getting in 60-80g of protein. I was surprised to hear that was my surgeon's requirement because I expected liquids, but I'm glad for it! All of the protein is giving me ideas for what I might want in high rotation after surgery.

What is that one thing you look forward to so much, post op?
Lizzle replied to Kris_Aloha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm crossing my fingers and toes that my sleep apnea will get better and I won't need a CPAP anymore. That alone would make the surgery worth it, but also looking forward to clothes like so many of us -- and shoes! I hear it's common for feet to "shrink" because they're not being pushed to the limit. I've always had wide feet but the past few years, definitely feel they've gotten even wider. -
Thanks! I haven't tried PowerAde Zero yet, will get some. I have some packets and drops but for some reason I'm not into them. My favorite drink right now is actually Hint water in cherry - it's just water + fruit essence, not sweet and just a hint of flavor as the name says but refreshing when you want a change from plain water.

So... what is a good amount of calories intake?
Lizzle replied to ShilohD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My team recommends 1,000 minimum before you do any kind of strength training exercise, so getting to/over 1,000 is my goal. -
I'm scheduled for May 1. I saw a comment about starting a Facebook group - I'd love to join if that happens!

Pre-Op diet starts tomorrow!!!
Lizzle replied to BubbleSam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, my surgery is May 1 and my mom is having the same worries as your dad. It makes me feel better to know her reaction isn't just hers! All I've been thinking is I've been living with this decision for longer than she has, so eventually she'll get more comfortable with the limitations the surgery brings ... and see all the ways it will allow me to be happier because I'll have more energy, etc!
