hi, i am recently post-op and recovering well. I am curious as to how others navigate going out to eat with family and friends once you've been cleared to eat regular food. Any tips? Do restaurants allow you to order half portions or do you just nibble a bit from your family member's/ friends plate? Are you allowed to order from the kids menu? do you just take a doggy bag home and spread out the food over several days? Thanks for the help and support.

it gets better. but i still can't drink as much of the protein drinks as i thought i would. i focus on water and have soup for lunch and dinner. try to drink protein but it doesn't appeal as much.

had mine on the 9th, feeling better each day. take a 20 min walk daily. so sick of liquids, have post op appt in 3 days when they will progress me to soft! can't wait. i find it's much easier to tolerate water or soup. protein drinks much harder to tolerate. the surgeon's PA told me that a lot of people are actually just getting 28-36 oz fluid daily the first week which made me feel better. the last couple of days i am able to drink more. step by step. good luck everyone.

Dry mouth after surgery caused from CPAP
greensleeves replied to JohnOwens's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i was sleeved june 9th. i was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple months before surgery and my nasal mask and CPAP have been fabulous. I've never had dry mouth in my life and never had it with the CPAP prior to surgery. However in the last few days I have been waking up in the middle of the night with the most severe dry mouth. I wondered if somehow the humidifier on my machine wasn't working but that does not seem to be the case. I'm not sure what the fix is, hopefully this is just one of those postop things that will slowly work itself out. -
i have heard you can add unflavored protein powder to the mashed potato to up the protein

good job. i got myself off caffeine too. now working on the caffeine free diet coke. i started working on vitamins but they are so constipating. trying to figure out the right combination of stool softeners etc.

i really like syntrax nectar (roadside lemonade flavor) and i add crystal light. i prefer the water/juice drinks instead of the milk based/milkshake.

coming off caffeine, starting to take vitamins to get in the habit, being more mindful of chewing more before i swallow, found protein drink i like.

just wanted to let you all know of my experience. my BMI is between 35 and 40, and my program was concerned that I may not be approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield with just hypertension. Therefore part of my program included being evaluated for other conditions. It turned out that I have both fatty liver and severe sleep apnea. while I am not thrilled to know that my obesity has led to all of these conditions, it does help my cause for getting surgery approved. I completed my program last week and my packet was submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield late last week. I called customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield a couple of times just to check and I found out early this week that they had approved my surgery within three hours of submission of my packet! I found out before the bariatric surgery office could let me know. good luck to you all.

hoping to have mine in early june. just finished preop program and crossing my fingers for insurance approval

hi, i am new to this forum. i completed all of my surgeon's requirements today, and the office will submit my packet soon. I'm wondering how long it generally takes BCBS federal to make their decision whether to approve the surgery or not. (my bmi is between 35 and 40 and i have several co-morbidities). thanks!
