The supervised weight loss physician that I am seeing in preparation has put me on a Keto diet. I was very surprised, I was just expecting your standard low fat/low calorie diet. My dad is also following a very low carb diet and has had great results. I intend to stay low carb/keto for the rest of my life.....but I think I still need the surgery.

Everyone's pre op diet is different. Mine would not allow sugar free pudding or orange juice. Premier Protein is the best, my favorite flavor is caramel. Better than bouillon for chicken broth. Sugar free popsicles. Sugar free Jello.

My hubby went out of town a day after I came home from surgery! I came to this group a lot for support. And I played a lot of mindless bubble popping games lol

Yay for everyone who is already scheduled! Me, not so much.
Yesterday my dermatologist called. I need to be tested for a surgical tape allergy--my surgeon insists, which is right and good and I have no objection to that. But they had to reschedule my appointment to be tested to July 24th! My last weigh-in with my surgeon is JUNE 22. I keep telling myself that it's perfect, I'll have time for my last nutrition appointment, time to get insurance approval, time to schedule surgery around my own patient schedule, time to save up more PTO for work...but it still feels like forever and a day away. It's just getting further away, not closer!

Less mills is so much fun. Used a barbell, but you should be able to use dumb bells. My favorite.

I'm vertically challenged at 5'1 so my original goal weight was 110 pounds, which would have placed me at a very normal BMI of 20 and into single-digit clothing sizes.
At three months post-op I adjusted my goal upward to 130. The weight was coming off at a painfully slow rate of about 5 to 6 pounds monthly, so I thought I'd never make it to my original goal.
I reached my revised goal of 130 pounds at 14 months out. My surgery day weight was 218, so I decided to lose a nicely even 100 pounds by getting to a body weight of 118. 118 pounds was my new goal.
It took another 4 months to lose the additional 12 pounds to get to 118. I've been maintaining this body weight without a great deal of effort while eating in the ballpark of 2000 calories daily. This is the first time in my adult life I've been weight-stable. I wear a size 4 and enjoy life as a normal-weight person.

Intuitive eating IS mindful eating. Geneen Roth is a proponent of this style and she has workshops for disordered eating. She conquered disordered eating herself.
The OP is trying to eat normal. Normal people don't endlessly think about food. They eat when hungry, stop when full, and go on about their day forgetting about food. It's when you give up the anxiety about food because you no longer USE food the same way that you did, when you used it to fulfill an unmet need, quell anxiety/grief rejection, worthiness love hate fear etc. It just becomes food, you learn to trust yourself.
I am working on this prior to surgery.

Yes I have dumping but my surgery was more complicated than most. It's rare to have it with the sleeve. I get it and it sucks so bad. But it's getting better.
I've been eating Intuitively for about a year now with some small relapses back into dieting and that mindset but not for more than a day or so.
The last 3 months I've REALLY let go and stopped weighing myself EVER, stopped even considering what I eat. I eat so much, always listening to my body and it's cravings. I eat all kinds of foods from fresh to processed and savory to sweet. I eat carbs all the time. I love Desserts. I drink alcohol. I enjoy whatever I want. I've not been actively dieting for a year at least but now I've really, really let go of the fear and I'm continuing to make progress. I don't worry about wether I'm eating too much, grazing, eating something fattening. I have really just LET GO.
I eat when I'm hungry and when I'm full I stop. Honestly I just don't even think about it. I follow my bodies cravings.
I have gained no weight. I'm exactly the same. If anything, I've lost. I don't know. I don't care. I don't weigh myself. BUT my clothes all still fit perfectly. But who cares anyway.
My life is finally where I want it to be and I am free.
I will never ever go back to dieting. I truly believe Intuitive Eating will keep me healthy for the rest of my life.

Hey everyone I am new here and I tried searching but couldn't find much in the way of this so if I'm asking something that has been asked before I apologise.
Basically I am wondering what/if there is anything I can do to mentally prepare or help with the huge adjustment of surgery.
My surgery is scheduled for the 3rd of July and I am very conscious of the fact that it will help with the physical side of things but I am going to have to put in a lot of work mentally. I am definitely an emotional/binge eater with a deeply unhealthy relationship with food and I'm so worried about what life is going to be like post surgery.
If anyone has any tips or advice or even just some insight into what life will be like, anything really especially if you had issues with emotional eating and binge eating and those sorts of things beforehand that would so be great
