Hospital stay for Gastric Bypass?
Maxthecat replied to AdoptedTexan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told 1-2 nights. I stayed 2. -
The thing I found with carbs is that they seem to go down ok but within 20mins I get that heavy, overfull sensation. So I've limited them greatly. As you heal you will become more in tune with the signs of fullness since it's such a different sensation than it was pre op. I also try not to drink for an hour after so I avoid the fullness but also so the food stays in my pouch longer and hopefully absorbs more nutrients.

When did it get better?
Maxthecat replied to Delete my account's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
About a week later I got really depressed and had serious regrets. That went away by two weeks out. There's still some times that I am frustrated with a twinge of regret but overall I feel a lot better. I'm also five weeks it and down 25lbs. -
In Week 5 and I have NO Energy
Maxthecat replied to Stacie Ness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also in week five. Last week I was drained of energy but this week is better. I am doing 600-700 calls per day 60g protein and 64oz of water. From what I've read it's normal to have these low energy times. Your weight loss is great btw! I'm down 25lbs but the scale is moving slower the past week for sure. HW: 287 SW: 266 CW: 240.8 -
I'm type 1 and just over a month out of surgery. I have had far fewer lows than expected. I have an insulin pump and that helps for quick adjustments. I went from using about 100 units of insulin a day to 35. My basal rate has dropped about 50% but I am still on the same insulin to carb ratio. It's been amazing to take less insulin. I was also worried about dumping from needed sugar quickly due to lows, but it's been fine. Good luck! And OP definitely make a plan with the endocrinologist. I met with mine two weeks prior and two weeks post. We also communicate via email when needed.

Vitamin patches are no good
Maxthecat replied to LosinItOverHere's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Dr & NuT have had many patients succeed with them. I'm using them but haven't had levels checked yet. -
Having trouble with vitamins
Maxthecat replied to mrsroyale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They don't check my levels until three months out so I'm not there yet but my Dr has seen nothing but good results with patients on them. I'm also on another forum and there are many using the patches with success. -
Having trouble with vitamins
Maxthecat replied to mrsroyale's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Patchmd.com. They are vitamin patches you wear for 8 hours. I love them. And yes, it's normal. I would focus on protein and water. My Dr recommends 64oz of water and 60g of protein per day. I did premier protein shakes to get that all in and then ate little bits of food as I could. I'm just over a month out and get about half my protein from shakes and the rest from food. If I am low on protein my energy tanks the next day. -
WORST TIME TRYING TO GET THIS DONE
Maxthecat replied to Ouiser's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had to do the same and while I was frustrated at the time, it was for my benefit and not to "jump through hoops". Having maximum oxygenation going into surgery will minimize risk and speed up recovery. So it is necessary. I was able to find a different clinic that offered early morning appointments so I met up with the Dr at 8am and then did the tutorial on the machine at 7:30am. After that all the data is transmitted electronically so there were no follow up appointments. Like I said, I was frustrated, but it was worth a couple more inconveniences to get the surgery. I am a month out and down 25lbs. (RNY) -

Anyone regretting this?
Maxthecat replied to Queen Sherri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been much harder than I expected and I have had regrets. But I am very type A and want to have control over things and I can't control this and that's making it harder. I had surgery one month ago and I'm down 23 lbs post op, which I'm happy about. But it's been really challenging with the nausea, learning how to eat at events, and the weakness. I know it will pass so I'm just keeping my eye on the prize. -
HELP**what foods to eat on 5th week of surgery?
Maxthecat replied to Ruiz3's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had surgery 5/2. For week 5 I am on soft, ground, moist food. However I've had trouble advancing so I'm going very slow. At this stage I can have any ground meat, tuna/chicken/ ham salad, some fruits as long as they are moist. I can't start trying raw veggies until week 6. Right now my meal plan looks like this: Breakfast: premier protein shake Snack: Greek yogurt Lunch: protein soup Snack: a couple slices of cheese Dinner: half of a chicken sausage and 1/4 cup of potato I've had a hard time tolerated veggies so I haven't had much but try to get them in my soup. I'm looking forward to when I can have a salad with some grilled chicken on it but given how hard of a time I've had advancing, it may be a bit. -
I have trouble with a lot of meat too. I've found the Al Fresco chicken sausages without the casing go down well and some fish if I have a sauce. I've also been doing crock pot chicken with low carb BBQ sauce so it pulls apart. The idea of most meats makes me want to gag. I'm just over a month post op.

Last weekend I reheated an omelette and threw up. I was nauseated for three days after this. Today I ate ground beef for the first time and got very sick and threw up. I expect I'll be nauseated again for a bit. Is it normal to be nauseas for days after eating something that doesn't agree? I'll be four weeks post op tomorrow. I am on phenegran as needed and omepramozole daily.

Bad stomach cramping- please help!
Maxthecat replied to wiredlain777's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have had a few problems advancing my diet according to the surgeons plan. He has said if you have trouble advancing, knock it back a week and then try again. Everyone's stomachs heal at different paces. I'm four weeks out and was able to start ground meat this week. I had ground turkey no problem but got very sick on ground beef. I'm going to take a step back and try again at a later date. -
I haven't tried it yet but it's been recommended to me to use a half of a vanilla protein shake in place of cream and that will also give it the sweetness.

The preop diet sucks so bad. I was on a business trip for half of mine which included lots of executive dinners out and me salivating. Not fun. However I did lose 21 lbs during that two weeks and that made it worth it. Hang in there and focus on the end result. I made a list in my phone of all the things I hated about being fat and read it when I felt weak and ready to break. It helped a lot. You got this!

Post Surgery weight loss
Maxthecat replied to cassablast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took a good week for all the extra fluids to wash out. Then I lost 16lbs the next week. Now I am at the dreaded three week stall. -
I'm three weeks out and had it the other day on an omelette. Within 20 mins I had to throw up. Our Dr told us its best to walk after dumping to help things move along. That did the trick. I've been slightly nauseous since but I think it's because my stomach isn't fully healed and dumping was hard on it.

Ok maybe it's not a stall but given that I was losing a point or so a day the first to weeks, to not have the scale move for 6 days is unsettling. Surgery 5/2. Lost 21lbs in the preop diet and 16lbs post op so far. I'm eating between 600-800cals per day. On on purees. My meals are like this: Breakfast: premier protein shake Snack: Greek yogurt Lunch: soup- like a chicken broth with veg Dinner: 1/3 cup puréed meat, 1/4 cup each of puréed veg and potatoes I'm getting about 80 oz of water. Protein is about 60g so yesterday I also added another shake to get to 90. I'm nervous to go on regular foods soon and gain if I'm not losing now. Any other suggestions? Or just calm the F down[emoji52]

Week 3 Weight Loss Stall
Maxthecat replied to KatePenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY and am just about 3 weeks post op. Lost 16lbs the first two weeks and nothing for the past week. It sucks being patient but everyone says this happens and to wait it out. Good luck. I hope your stall ends soon! -

I know the answer- everyone is different. But I'm struggling and would like to know when others felt better post op. I had my surgery 5 days ago and I feel depleted, like I'm going through life in a daze of water and protein shakes. I have been able to get my protein in the past two days and also have a few teaspoons of broth tonight. I just want to feel like myself again and be present for my husband and son.
