    Hospital stay

3 days. Would have been 2 but I had blood sugar issues due to type 1 diabetes. Recheck two weeks post op.
  2. I take a continuous pill and don't get my period but post op I got it for about 4.5weeks. It sucked but I'm back to normal now. Hormones.

    not feeling full?

Once you are on solid foods you will feel full. I was all worried too because I didn't feel full and felt hungry for about 3 weeks post op. Once I started more substantial foods and dense proteins I got full quick and I am never hungry.
  4. Started at 266. Lost 13 lbs the second month and 12 the third. I'm currently 212 just over 3 mos post op.
  5. I've found 30-50 net carbs a day to work for me. Lower and I feel weak. Higher and I stall weight loss.

ANYONE GET THERE SURGERY MAY 2017

May 2nd. Down 70# including preop.

Who had surgery in May 2017

I had surgery 5/2 and am down 65# since the preop diet that started two weeks prior. My typical day: B: coffee and wake up wrap from dunks L: 2oz deli ham and 3 cracker slices of cheddar S: turkey pepperoni D: egg beater omelette with ham and cheese and bacon on the side. I'm usually around 600-700cals and 60 g of protein. I try between 25-50 carbs. I tolerate all carbs well (unfortunately). Chicken is hard for me. It needs to be really moist. No ground beef but ground turkey is ok. Shrimp and some baked fish are good. Nothing fried or creamy. No thick gravy or sauces. Protein shakes make me sick so I have to work to get my protein from food. Straight milk makes me sick.

    Medications working after surgery

I'm on Citalopram and haven't had a problem. I did get very depressed a week after but I think that's normal from what I've read. As far as OTC meds the only thing I've taken has been NyQuil and it hit me way harder than it used to.

    Post Op activity

I had a hard time bending the first two weeks so I limited it. I didn't feel like I could bike until about a month post op. I would get nauseous. Walking I've just taken it as I can. I'm 8 weeks out and can easily walk 2 miles but I had to work up to it slowly. I remember three weeks out being exhausted and cranky after 1/2 mile.
  10. I did not need or want help. My husband was at work the day I was discharged and my parents dropped me off at home. My dad did run to the pharmacy for my meds and that was helpful. My husband worked as usual and was in charge of preschool drop off and pickups for two weeks but that was about it.

How long a stall is too long?

Do you have a nutritionist? I had RNY but I'm not allowed 1000 caps until after I reach goal. At 6mos I would be a max of 800.
  12. I told my immediate family about a month before because I was so scared. I started with my health concerns and led into the surgery that it was recommended by my Dr because I knew they would trust that more. Post op I've told people at work and some were very shady about it like I could see the judgement on their faces. However in the past couple of weeks (I'm 8wks post op) they've all come up to me and said how fantastic I looked. I'm sorry you're facing criticism. I think if I was in your shoes I'd stop telling people for now and tell them after. It's really hard for people to understand why someone would willingly have surgery. And that's because our society views obesity as a self control issue vs a medical one.

    Enthusiasm Gone

Im 8 weeks post op. I think a vacation is doable at 5 weeks if you are able to rest and take breaks. I also had a really hard time transitioning to solid foods at 6 weeks and got sick a lot. I would not have been thrilled being on vacation during that. I think the biggest thing though is he emotional toll. My moods have been up and down a lot since surgery and that would be hard to manage on vacation.
  14. I have a friend that had surgery two weeks before me. She had no preop diet and has lost 80# post op. It's hard not to be jealous or get down about it, but we are different people.
  15. How much protein are you getting a day? Also is that smoothie full of sugar? I have surgery 5/2 and am down 55# but that includes the 21# I lost pre-op. I think your weight loss is on track.

    Bread Products!

The guide my Dr gave was packed with carbs. I realized quickly that 1) I wouldn't hit my protein goals if I ate the way it described and 2) carbs make me crave more carbs and spiral out. I probably average about 30grams total per day but I try to eat only complex carbs so no bread, sweets, pasta/rice. I eat potatoes a couple times a week but about 1/3 of a cup max.

    Like being pregnant...

Yes! I was just telling my husband this weekend that it's like first trimester.

    Pureed Stage

I used anything and puréed it. It wasn't a problem. I would get a bag of mixed veg, cook, season and then purée.

    I needs hugs today

I had a really hard time 3 weeks post op and was puking a lot. I called the Dr and they had me do a couple of days back in liquid diet to let my pouch settle. It helped a ton. I still have issues since my pouch is really sensitive but it's a lot better.
  20. My Dr says yes and it will take time to adjust. I've always been a puker but this is excessive. One day a half of a breakfast sandwich on a bagel thin is fine. Today I'm sick after two bites. Saturday I was sick all night after a few bites of plain grilled chicken. Week three I was sick after almost every solid. I'm glad it's calmed down six weeks out but I'm having trouble getting my nutrients in. Thoughts?
  21. Bread is approved on my meal plan, however I limit it a lot. More often than not I get sick on dense protein. This week has been better. I haven't gotten sick since Tuesday and feel overall better. I'm taking more time to eat and chewing better.
  22. I think so. Maybe I'm eating too fast. It doesn't happen daily but in the past 7 days I've thrown up a meal three times.
  23. I wore very loose sweat pants and wore them a little lower. A lot there were just wearing the hospital gowns or night gowns with robes.
  24. - What (physical and/ or non-physical) changes are you mostly looking forward to? I want to enjoy clothes again. I used to love fashion but when I gained weight I just couldn't get into it anymore. I also want to not be the "fat" funny girl. - What are your non-weight (#) related goals? I want to feel strong and be able to run after and with my 3 yo son. I'm 6 weeks post op.
