I thought the first six weeks was very hard in this respect. After I could eat normal food it got much better.

Looking for a May 10th surgery buddy
PasadenaMom replied to starbuckslas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m a May 10 surgery buddy but had mine May 10 of last year! So here to give lots of encouragement and tell you how great it is on the other side. I’ll be one year post op on 5/10 and this year has been life-changing. Weight, looks, self confidence, happiness - everything is different. Stick to the pre-op diet as much as you possibly can. For me the pre-op diet was difficult and the post-op diet was *very very* difficult until I got past the purée stage. I sucked on a small potato chip at one point because I was so dying for something salty. It is all worth it. A million good wishes for next week! [emoji173]️ -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
PasadenaMom replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations!! I’m around the same place you are — I hit my doctor goal/BMI of 25 last week. I’m so excited about this! Sleeved in May, have lost 96 lbs, and feel amazing. Went shopping and bought some size 8 dresses yesterday, which blows my mind. -
Lap-Band vs Gasteric Balloon
PasadenaMom replied to Katie Hasen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I quit drinking alcohol before my surgery and have not started back. I don’t think I will, because I can really feel the difference abstaining has made. I wanted to change my life and have done that — if I’d been too concerned about preserving the way I was living before, I wouldn’t have done something as dramatic as WLS. I’m so happy that I did! All the best as you work through your decision process. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I’m three months ahead of you but had similar numbers so here’s a preview! My HW was 247. Surgery day was 226. 7 months post-op I was at 172. In three days I’ll be 10 months post-op and as of today I’m at 156. My goal is 150 (BMI of 25), so I’m pretty close, but I think I’ll be able to go a bit lower over time. Good luck and hang in there! -
I’ve lost pretty slowly overall (surgery day weight was 226 — roughly 10 months later I’m at 158 and losing 2-3 lbs/month). I feel amazing. Slow is still losing and the time will pass. What you did during the passage of that time will show. Exercise. Meet your protein and water goals. Listen to music. Get outside and walk. Get a massage. Care for yourself.

What is eating like 6 months or more after gastric sleeve?
PasadenaMom replied to missmaryc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, plenty of stalls. There is hope but it's more like long term, peaceful, optimistic good feeling and forward progress, not the kind of panicky feeling you get when you're anxious about something (stalls feel like that to me). You did the right thing. It will work. This is a chance to explore and fix a lot of areas of life - not just weight. Enjoy foods as you reintroduce them. Think about them. Enjoy other things too! This will work. It will take time. It's not a race. There's no need to panic. Just be intentional about what you're doing, listen to your surgeon and NP, and do the work every day. -
What is eating like 6 months or more after gastric sleeve?
PasadenaMom replied to missmaryc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m almost 9 months post-op, down 85 lbs. I eat what I want, but still eat my protein first and I fill up quickly. I have treats when I want but in very small quantities. Deeply grateful for the surgery and the freedom it’s given me, and feel like a million bucks. Now I don’t focus on food much and still drink almost no alcohol, which is a big change from pre-op. I don’t miss these things at all — feels freeing. -

Sitting in a normal airplane seat comfortably was a huge NSV for me-one of the most emotional ones for me. I had to fly a few months post op and got a window seat—and cried; it was so beautiful up there in the clouds, sitting in a normal seat. [emoji173]️ I took video of it and kept it to remind me! -

I’ve lost less than 10 lbs/month in all but my first month. Overall, though, I still lose every month (last month was 3.5 lbs). Slowly but surely getting there. I expect to hit 100 lbs lost but not til well after a year post-op (have lost 60 lbs in approx 8 months post-op, but only “big” number was month 1). I exercise 3-4 times week, feel amazing, and am never looking back! -
I felt just like this and had similar stats (was 247 when I started). I didn’t even really commit fully to the pre op/6 month diet. But I went back every month even if I hadn’t lost, mostly because I didn’t want to start over. Once my surgery approval came in, a month prior, it got a lot more real and I got serious. I started the plan with some rigor, cut out all sugar and alcohol, etc., and lost around 15 lbs pre-surgery. I’ve been a slowish-loser post-op but have been compliant, careful, diligent and have not gone back to my bad habits, and exercise 5x week and enjoy it. Am down almost 80 lbs, at around a .5 lb/week pace now. The surgery won’t “work” on its own but it’s a huge opportunity to change your life, and the weight loss is an awesome motivator to keep going. Good luck to you!!

Help, Please.
PasadenaMom replied to Deleted Account's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
FWIW - the pre-surgery diet was much harder and much less satisfying than the after-surgery diet! Hang in there. And make sure you are getting enough protein (80-100 g/day). And post here when you need to! -
Whoops, tomorrow is 10 weeks! Still 28 lbs though.
-
I'm 9 weeks out as of tomorrow and have lost 28 lbs total since the surgery.

Anyone have a C section and then get sleeved? Pain difference?
PasadenaMom replied to GotProlactinoma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeve was *much* easier and faster recovery than c-sections. -
I could have written this post! Ditto.
-
I went through the entire 6 months like this, and only half-assedly did the diet. Once I was approved I got much more serious about it tbh. The person who runs my program deals with BC/BS every day and did not think there was any reason why I wouldn't be approved, and she was right there was no issue/approved first time submitted.

PasadenaMom replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite is the Atkins Lift lemon flavor. I drink Protein20 too, but that and the Atkins berry flavor are a bit too sweet for my taste. -
Looks fantastic!

Need Help With Hesitation Before Surgery
PasadenaMom replied to Redo2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was hesitant from the very first appointment -- last October. I was worried I would miss out on too much, especially alcohol and caffeine tbh. I only half-heartedly did the 6 months supervised dieting, the whole time thinking I wouldn't do it. Then once surgery was approved by ins and scheduled, I was excited. The month prior to surgery I was really committed, quit all alcohol and sugar, etc, and lost around 10 lbs. in the weeks leading up to surgery. Brace yourself now - the few days before surgery are 100% filled with reluctance to do it. I never came close to backing out but I thought it every moment. I have young kids and was worried. Had the surgery on 5/10. The week after was not bad, and since then I feel so happy. Even being relieved from a perceived dependence on my coffee, my wine, etc. is gone. I feel strong and powerful. So far have lost another 19 lbs and people are noticing that, but the biggest change for me has been to my mindset. All that said--do what your gut compels you to do. You can and should trust yourself. All the best either way!
