Tell me about the recovery house for BariatricPal
kimaly replied to Dawny28's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I liked it because it felt more like a home and the BP office was right next door. We stayed one night in the recovery house and on night in the hotel (Hubby is more of a hotel kinda person) both were equally nice just with two different vibes. -

*HELP* Dr. Altamirano or Dr. Zavalza?
kimaly replied to Dawny28's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Dr. Altamirana has a FB page with lots of his former, current and future patients on it. He allows full honesty in his group. (one of the reasons I like his group so much, it's not just rainbows and unicorns) Very personable and interacts with us almost daily. I am having revision surgery with him on Sept. 7th. Here is the link if you are interested in checking it out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/dr.altamirano/ We would love to have you join us. -

Mine is Sept. 7th and it seems so far away, I can't wait to get this band out and get the ball rolling again -
What does it feel like to have the sleeve v. band?
kimaly replied to buttercup06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately my Insurance didn't cover the band and will not cover the revision so I am heading to Mexico for revision on Sept. 7th. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time. I was banded July 2008 and it went very well for about 5 years until I got a stomach virus and was throwing up everything I put in my mouth and at times it seemed somethings I didn't . I called my fill center to get an unfill just to find out they had closed without notice UGH and couldn't find anyone to do the unfil because no one wanted to touch a Mexican surgery patient. My stomach ended up swelling so bad from the vomiting that I ended up in the ER with kidney failure. Finally they emptied my band WOW what a relief! After a few days in the hospital and kidneys back in shape I was sent home empty and starving. Once again no one in my area would fill me afterwards so I gained back 80lbs in 2 years partly due to depression and partly due to just being a jerk and excited about eating things I hadn't had in 5 yrs I want my healthy life back and this dang band (AKA my frenemy) out of me. I have Chosen Dr. Carlos Altamirano in TJ as my surgeon. I'm looking forward to following the progress of others that have had revision already. You see so much about revision patients having slower weightloss but I have all intentions of putting that myth to bed. Good luck to everyone on their journey, It's nice to know there are others out there going through the same thing and can understand what someone that has not been in this situation can. -

I have been pleased with my communication with everyone so far. I am scheduled for revision surgery on Sept. 7 and have already had a long talk with Dr. A and all my emails have been promptly addressed by Henry and the anesthesiologist. Carmen (Nutritionist) and I have skyped and she has even sent me recipes already. So i'm a happy girl and looking forward to my date.

First rejection at a restaurant. So annoyed :[
kimaly replied to sleevie.wonder's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Depending on which restaurant you chose sometimes appetizers broiled instead of fried will work just fine. Just ask them to bring it when they bring the other main dishes. If a manager of any restaurant was rude to me for any reason I would have got up and left at that very moment. -
Slow and steady wins the race. Take it one day at a time. Good luck

I am officially sleeved!
kimaly replied to Keshajo1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
That's awesome, can't wait to follow your progress. I had a band 7 yrs ago and lost 117 lbs, had some issues (not from the band) and the emergency room emptied it 2 yrs later I have gained 80 lbs and my fill center has closed down. I can't get a Doctor around here to give me fills because I got my band in Mexico. I couldn't even find a Doctor to remove the band here in the States. I can't tell you how grateful I am to Bariatric Pal and Dr. Altamirano and his team for giving me a chance to correct these issues and get the life back that I had previously work so hard to achieve. -

4 1/2 years banded and need to start again
kimaly replied to bandincu's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thank you, I'm not giving up just have to start over and this time without a fill. I am determined and I know what to do, just have to do it and stick to it. Just mad at myself for waiting until I regained most of my weight to get back on track. -
Yes, but if I had a chance to do it over I would go with the sleeve. I was emptied do to complications and my fill center has closed down. I can't find anyone to do a fill in my area and after 5 years of keeping the weight off I have regained most of it in just one year. Trying to start over but it's pretty depressing.

4 1/2 years banded and need to start again
kimaly replied to bandincu's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am in the same boat, I was banded in 2008. I did everything I was supposed to do and lost my weight hit my goal and kept it off for over 5 years. My fill center closed down (I had surgery in Mexico so no one around me will touch my band) I got the flu and was vomiting terribly which caused my stomach to swell around my already to tight band and I dehydrated and went into kidney failure. After being rushed to the hospital finely someone was able to unfill my band. after a brief hospital stay I was back to normal but my band was empty and again no help with fills I have gained back most of my weight this past year a total of 70lbs. I feel so defeated and angry at myself. But I am ready to start over and although it saddens me you are struggling it also helps and I am grateful you are sharing your story because it helps me know that I am not alone in this struggle. I really think I feel worse about the weight now than I did before I originally lost my weight. Running into people and seeing the expression on their faces when they don't know what to say because I am fat again is not only annoying but quite frustrating. So bottom line is i'm ready to get back on track and will be following your progress. -
Well I was a July Butterfly and had done fantastic with my weight loss. I dropped 117lbs and kept it off until June 2013, I got a touch of the stomach flu from my granddaughter that changed everything for me. I was throwing up so much from the flu that it irritated my stomach and caused it to swell around the band and I just kept getting sicker and sicker. My fill center closed down and because of having the surgery in Mexico I couldn't find anyone to unfill me so needless to say things just went from bad to worse. My kidneys failed and I ended up in the ER with kidney failure so they called in someone to empty my bad and sent me to the hospital for a few days until my kidneys were functioning again. With that being said my band is now empty and I am here with the same issue, No one to fill it back up. I have gained 60lbs since June and feel terrible about myself, I hate having to see people because I feel like a failure and don't even know if I have the strength to start over again. Yes I know I'm whining but I am jus so angry with myself and disappointed as well. I know that only I am responsible for what I stuff in my face and it is my own fault Grrrrr!! I'm really trying to work on losing the weight again and could use a little encouragement. As soon as I get the chance I will update my stats and picture

So sorry to hear about all you have been going through but am very glad to see you are better Thoughts and prayers are with you

who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?
kimaly replied to Lapbandster's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
For me when someone says life is back to normal I'm not scared because this is the new normal for me after living this lifestyle for 5 years what else would feel normal? So don't be afraid it's a lifestyle change that will become your new normal.
