Complications with Mexico Bariactric Center
Purseynursey posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Morning all. Has anyone had any luck getting a refund from MBC after complications? I was a band to Sleeve revision and immediately developed a stricture. I was unable to eat for 2 months, was hospitalized immediately after after returning home, sent home with an NG tube, and have started the process of dilations. All 3 surgeons I've seen of the US said the standard of care would have been to stop after removing my band and seeing what bad shape my stomach was in(full of scar tissue, adhesions and ulcers) and not proceeded to Sleeve. It's so upsetting that all these problems could have been avoided! I'm trying to talk to the business office now to get some kind of refund. It has cost me over $5000 since I've been home from these complications. I understand sometimes things happen but there is also bad judgement and greed at play. Drs are to "First do no harm" Mexico or US a Drs first responsibility is to do what best for his patients. Just so frustrated. -
Complications with Mexico Bariactric Center

I completely understand that complications are a risk but like you said my situation was unique and should have been treated as such. A Dr is only as good as their judgement. I have to believe that all this happened for reason even if that reason is only to make my surgeon think twice before he does this again. Someone older and I'm worse health may not be able to rebound from such an issue. -
Another Patient Death at A Lighter Me (ALM) with Dr. Jose Luis Curiel Marchena
Purseynursey replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I will just relay a short story about my experince in Mexico. I am a nurse and have worked in surgery for 12yrs. I had my lap band removed and a conversion to VSG. I had complications in Mexico and did not feel the hospital was adequately equipped to deal with serious issues. The nurses spoke very broken English and there where no CT scanners or MRI machines nor ICU beds. IF everything goes well Mexico is a great option. My best friend had same procedure same day. Did great. For the 95% of people that go and do perfect Mexico is a God send (we were both self pay) but it's a choice you ultimately have to make yourself. I am now 4 weeks post op and have a 1mm stricture in my stomach and require further surgery. The same complication could happen at ant hospital to any surgeon the difference is in the US the hospital and staff have the equipment and knowledge to handle just about anything..... so my point is this. Think hard and long about how willing you are to accept the consequences of your decision. [emoji738] -
Please pray for me. I'm going in for another Upper GI. Pray there is no leak and I'm making progress.

8 Weeks out and having a hard time eating

I'm in your boat too at 3 weeks. My pouch is very abnormal shaped because of my previous lap band and scar tissue. It's hour glass shaped and I'm having a terrible time. Let me know what your Dr says -
I'm 3 weeks out and can't get passed full liquids. I've tried thin mashed potatoes, and soup I can get it down but it just sits in my stomach all day. I burp it up do I know it hadn't passed. On my leak test the contrast was not leaving my stomach and they thought it was due to swelling. Sound familiar? Any ideas?

I had my band for 7 years. Had a lot of issues. Converted 3 weeks ago to Sleeve and ended up with stomach emptying issues related to scar, ulcers and adhesions. The Drs back in the US have talked about dialating my pouch or proceeding to Gastric Bypass. Im still unable to tolerate anything but clear liquids... anyone else have problems with your pouch not emptying post sleeve???

Strictures post sleeve!!
Purseynursey replied to Purseynursey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm already on Protonix and pepcid. I'm not really having acid as much as actual food or drink coming back up because my stomach is not emptying. -
I will start prayers for everyone on this thread. My heart breaks for you and makes me feel lucky for the small complications I've had. [emoji738][emoji178][emoji738]

Any advice on what to try and what to avoid. The regular protein shakes reflux back up for some reason so I bought the clear liquid juice kind. -

Strictures post sleeve!!
Purseynursey replied to Purseynursey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Dr back in the US has talked about dialating my pouch or proceeding to full bypass if I'm unable to advance my diet. I don't know if im just wanting progress to fast.... I tried 5 bites of very thin mashed potatoes and kept in down for about 6hrs but it hurt so bad and I was reducing it back up and eventually vomited. I'm getting very discouraged -

AMJK79 thank you so much for answering. I have felt so alone in this. My best friend had same procedure same day and is doing great. How long until you could tolerate and real food? The most ice been able to get down in a day is 1/2 a yogurt. I'm terrified of needing to move ahead to Gastric bypass. I don't have much viable stomach tissue left. It's a mess. -
Band to sleeve one surgery or two?
Purseynursey replied to My3angels031703's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please if you are considering doing this in 1 surgery know that serious complications can happen. I did mine in one surgery and have had horrible issues because the state my stomach was in after the band. I'm 3 weeks out and still can not tolerate anything beyond clear liquids. I also had to have an NG tube to rest my stomach because of swelling. While it is possible to have this done successfully in 1 surgery it's not worth the risk. -

I was revised in Mexico. My BMI was only 28. My best friend was done at the same time. Same BMI
