Hi everyone.....I never post but I have been lurking for at least 2 years. I am finally approved and will have surgery on Nov. 29th. When I had my consult with the surgeon, I believe he said my band will be a 1cc band. It sounds to me like that is really small.....am I wrong? Is that going to be big enough to do any good?:help:

LOL, I think Thanksbandsters is cute so is the turksters!

Happy Birthday to your little doggie! :clap2: My oldest just turned 7 last week.

Hi sweet and welcome from one dog lover to another! I'm 33. I have three little dachshunds that are my babies. I have a good friend that lives in Oregon.

I know there has probably been a thread about this....I am supposed to see my family dr. for surgical clearance soon and they just called because they got my labs back and my thyroid is still out of whack so they are upping my dosage of synthroid. I asked the nurse if it will keep him from giving me surgical clearance and she said she didn't know. Does anyone know if this is a major issue that will keep me from being banded? I am not seeing him until the 18th and I am going to freak out between now and then!:help:

OMG thank you so much for responding. I am hoping that is what will happen with me!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am freaking out so bad. My appointment isn't until the 18th and I am going to go INSANE worrying. My surgery isn't until Nov. 29th but I just want to get my clearance so I know that this is happening FOR SURE!!!

nessa, I am so excited too about the prospect of buying clothes in a regular store, in a decent size!! I can't remember the last time I bought anything that wasn't "Plus Size!!!!"

Hi Caramel and welcome! Congrats on your approval! I was recently approved as well and will be banded Nov. 29th. I am a neighbor, from NW Ohio. I am doing all the pre-surgical stuff now as well.

Hello and welcome! I am being banded Nov. 29th and have found this forum to be great for info and support! -
I have to be on Optifast for my pre-surgical diet as well as post-surgical. I have been on Optifast in the past. I personally think the powdered stuff is GROSS but there are some who like it. It is a lot cheaper than the boxed drinks. As far as the boxes go, chocolate and vanilla are fine, I liked vanilla better. I couldn't stand the strawberry. I love the chicken soup and the tomato soup both! The bars aren't bad either-I only tried the chocolate ones. Good luck!

I still have a long ways to go until Nov. 29th but I got a bunch of pre-op appts scheduled today and it is finally sinking in that this is really going to happen! I have bloodwork and ekg on Oct. 2nd, then on the 10th I have to go to a pre-surgical seminar for 3 hours, then see the dr. again for more bloodwork, see the surgeon Nov. 15th, and then surgery Nov. 29th. It really seems like it isn't for a while but I know it will be here before I know it. I'm just so scared something is going to happen that I won't be able to have it! I am so jealous of everyone that gets to go before me!!! Smilin, how are you doing today?

That is a great idea, socal. I should be more positive. Angel, if I was near you I would be happy to go and support you! -

I can't believe they refuse to see you unless you have someone with you. I am telling as few people as possible. If I were you I would look and see if there is another surgeon in your area you could call for a consult. This is making me so mad that they are refusing to see you without a support person!!! -
do I really need a C-PAP machine?
Sassafras replied to arahman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is my understanding that I could only exchange it within the first 30 days at no charge and I am past 30 days. When I went in before the 30 days was up, that was when they told me to get used to the one I had!!! Sure, I could go get another one but I would have to pay cash and I sure don't have that kind of money! -

do I really need a C-PAP machine?
Sassafras replied to arahman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mandi, I know exactly how you feel! I can't sleep with my mouth closed....I thought I could but I can't/ I want to try a different mask but they weren't very receptive to that at the medical equipment place, they just said I needed to get used to the one that I have. I am going to make my best effort to wear it again this weekend. Luckily the sleep dr. wants to see me again 2-3 months after surgery so maybe after I drop some lbs I won't need it anymore. My husband has a full face mask and loves it but I could never wear that! -

I was only trying to help..................I meant no offense to anyone. -
Thanks everyone for your input. Lawanda, that sounds like something my surgeon would say to me! I will ask when I see the surgeon again!

do I really need a C-PAP machine?
Sassafras replied to arahman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a really hard time adjusting to my cpap as well. I tried to tell them the mask wasn't working and I wanted to change but they said I had it adjusted wrong. I wake up in the middle of the night and take it off in my sleep. Now I am past 30 days for them to change the mask and I am stuck with what I have. I haven't worn it in 3 weeks because I can't sleep with it on. I know that I really need it but I don't know what to do. -
Effects of Alcohol after Lap Band Surgery
Sassafras replied to guitarjeff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon said no carbonated beverages after surgery, ever so if your surgeon has that same policy, the 7up might be a problem. I would think it would not be good for your insulin levels, either. You are basically drinking empty calories so I am not sure if the band would help you until you are able to stop that habit. I am not being judgemental in any way so please don't think that. I just don't know how much you would lose if you kept that up. I would hate to see you spend the time and money on the band to completely defeat the purpose. -
Patty, maybe you will be the first in Nov and I will be the last! Those little candy bars tempt me too. My hubby and daughter always insist on getting Reese cups and I love them. I don't know if I could take working in a grocery store or anywhere else near food for that matter. I worked in fast food management for 10 years which helped greatly in getting me where I am today.......I will be on Optifast for Thanksgiving!!!! I am ok with that except that I LOVE the dressing! I wish that I could have some just one last time! Smilin, hang in there! At least you are not gaining. I am trying to lose a few more between now and my pre-op diet. How are your stomach pains? Definitely stick around with us! I have been lurking on here for 2 years and am so happy to be meeting some people finally! We are all in this together! :waytogo:

Why can't I do this alone???
Sassafras replied to angelsoul's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Angel, good luck. Let us know what they have to say. I agree that the only time they should REQUIRE someone there is the surgery date. -
Go to the consult and hear what he has to say. I cant see anyone refusing to do a lap band if their bmi is over 35!! Lots of insurances won't even consider paying unless it is 39/40 or over! Try not to be depressed until you have at least talked to him.

I think that is ridiculous. I can see them recommending bringing someone for support but not requiring it. Nobody has gone to any of my appointments with me. It's nobody else's business unless you want it to be and if they are going to be that rigid then they don't need your business and you should find another dr. -

Maybe I am mistaken. I really thought he said it was a 1cc band but I think I HAVE to have that wrong! I will see him one more time before my surgery so I will ask him again.............
He did say it was an Inamed band.
