    Bypass & arthritis

I checked out the site - is there a percentage discount if you pay the $20 to become involved on products? Wondering if signing up makes for a better price on the items.
  2. Not protein shakes but bone broth has a savory flavor with a nice amount of protein. You can also buy non-flavored protein and put it in and on items. I put it in gelatin (sugar free of course) to give a little more protein to my week one and two liquid diet.
  3. Hi - I'm 5'0 and began my journey last December at 188lbs. I just had the Roux en Y procedure on October 19th so I'm 2.5 weeks out. I lost 12 pounds before surgery in those months of prep and entered the surgery room at 176. Since surgery I'm down another 16 more - 10 the first week and six this past 10 days. I'm losing faster than I thought I would but feeling great. I had 50 to lose - had surgery due to trying to avoid back surgery and getting 50 off would be almost a third of myself and docs felt like it would be a huge help. You will do great - I'm really happy I did this - only questioned my decision the first two days after surgery when I didn't feel very good. I attribute it to my positive outlook as well as making sure I got a good amount of protein in by drinking bone broth (12 gram per 8 oz serving), Arbonne protein shakes (20 grams per serving), and adding unflavored protein to whatever else I ate from jello to pureed peaches.....AND drinking lots of fluids which consisted mostly of water and warm peppermint tea. Good luck!
  4. I had this same fear and wondered what to do since my Roux en Y was on Oct. 19th this year. I just had a 50th surprise party here at the house for a friend and no one even noticed I was walking around and not eating. I had my favorite wine glass filled with water and some fruit - a strawberry, blueberries, orange slice - to look pretty and people were more interested in why I had the pretty glass than what was in it. One person asked why I wasn't drinking wine and I told them it was my house and I wanted to be on my best behavior :). As it turns out, I had a hiatal hernia that needed repaired. Doc found it when he did my WLS. That's been helpful to use - google it, maybe it will work for you as an excuse, at least in the beginning. AND before I had surgery i did do some food intolerance testing to see if there were things I continue to eat that are not helping me. I found out some new stuff - allergy to wheat which I've known and intolerance to all dairy, green beans, asparagus, ginger, cinnamon, to name a few. I've told people truths - just not the whole truths - about why I'm looking thinner these days.
  5. I feel like an advertisement with as often as I mention this but....have you checked into Tespo? There is a link on the home page. I love mine. It's like a Keurig for Vitamins. It's a little machine that you put a pod pack in (they come in bariatrics for women and men plus others - one for sleep is nice). You push a little button and it dispenses a small amount of water - like an ounce - into a cup after popping one of the pod capsules and then goes about mixing the two together for you. I'm not a fan of vitamins either. They make me feel yucky BUT this works for me. The vitamins taste kind of like old school Tang and it's only an ounce. I also take them at night on my way to bed - that helps a lot also.

Had my first post-op today. I'm doing well and the doc is pleased with all the numbers :). I'm down just shy of 10 pounds in a week! That's amazing. Perhaps more amazing is how I feel. I've done very well with keeping things down and progressing along. I'm having very little trouble getting all my fluids in and my protein level is pretty good too. I start new and exciting things this week like vitamins, cream of rice, V-8 juice and soups. I just read Sunnyday25's post above and can't wait for pulverized chicken! I go back in two weeks for my next appointment. Hope everyone is doing great! Hugs and prayers!
  7. Love my Tespo. So easy to use, the taste of the vitamins are like the old school Tang and once it mixes up the vitamins with water you are left with about 1 oz of fluid to drink so it is perfect for bariatric patients! They even have vitamin pods designed specifically for bariatric men and women. Well worth the small investment!

Vegan foods for days 3-8 after surgery?

I use Arbonne's protein shake mix - it's 100% Vegan and it's really good. Google Arbonne for someone close to you that sells it and they would be happy to give you a couple samples to try before you buy. Also, this is a bit pricy but so worth it when you don't have alot of options - Ruby Rockets sells Vegan pops and yogurt made with fruit and veggies. They even have a chocolate one. So good. https://www.rubyrockets.com/collections/all

It seems you do the same thing - there is a place to edit when you go into the screen you just made it in.....

Oh dear - I remember someone posting how to on here and I did it right then LOL. I believe you click on your screen name at the top of the screen and follow the "My ticker" section.....I'll go play with it a bit and see if I see anything else to help you.

I had surgery on the 19th so I'm on day 4 post-op. I feel like I'm doing well. Lots of gurgles and gas going on and I feel full but also have a desire to chew something so I've been eating frozen sugar free Popsicles. That helps. I never knew there were so many food commercials on TV before this! The head hunger is where I will be working this next week for sure. I'm supposed to stay on clear liquids until Wednesday but I did make a watered down protein shake today - vanilla with a drop of lemon oil. Tastes very good. All in all I feel good. I am sleeping very well. I do feel a little dizzy today, that's why I added a protein shake. Looking forward to getting the swelling and bloating out of the way, otherwise so far so good

Hi all! I got home early this afternoon. My surgery was yesterday. I woke up with the gas pains everyone mention. The most uncomfortable pains were in my left shoulder. I had a few sips of veggie broth, a third of a Popsicle and a small bite of jello but I was still feeling nauseous and ended up throwing it back up. This morning however I felt like million bucks. I slept very well and I'm fairly certain that helped tremendously. I'm a bit sore but not like doing a gazillion crunches like some say. It's been a good day. Hope everyone else is feeling good, too.

So tomorrow is the day for me! I'm on liquids today for pre-op. These can include protein drinks and creamed soups! I can drink coffee even. Tomorrow morning after bathing in the special soap for the 2nd time I can have coffee or juice or bone broth on the way to the hospital if I want and then I'll be joining you recent surgery peeps in the post-op diet. I'm nervous, feel like I should clean and get things in order today, but mostly confident in my decision. I haven't told two of my three kids yet so that's weighing on me but I think it's best for now. I am so excited to feel good again, get some of this weight off to help with back, hip and overall joint pain, and to have the energy and desire to hang with the grand kids more....these are the things that give me confidence in this decision. I appreciate the most recent posts from those of you that just had surgery this week and your encouragement. Keep it coming....I still have 20.5 hours to go until I leave for the hospital :).....

I double checked and yes - liquid diet on the 18th and clear liquids on the 19th. My surgery is first thing in the morning so I won't be drinking much anyway. Just enough to get the meds down they want me taking....
  15. If looking for the electrolytes Gatorade and Propel offer, unsweetened coconut water is a good alternative. Just watch the sugar... If looking for taste you can try essential oils (I use DoTerra) for flavoring. A few drops of lemon is yummy.
