Socializing smack dab in the middle of liquid diet!
pinkdots410 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
 How can it be done? I have plans for lunch and a movie with a grlfreinds and clients - when I will be on full liquids. I don't care to disclose why I can't eat and I don't want it to be awkward with me just drinking as everyone else digs into thier meals! How did you do it? Any advice on how to handle this situation would be appreicated! Thanks!! -
for all interested - :biggrin2:

How long til your brain "clicked"?
pinkdots410 replied to Ang1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ang - I didn't have any tips for you as I am pre-op... I hope it will click for you soon. It is tough with the Lap Band - especially since we can pretty much eat whatever we want, just slower. For one, we don't get the caloric malabsorbtion like with other bariatric surgeries. AND we don't get the dumping syndrome like the the bypass - which is a major deterrent to cheating. We do - occasionally (from what I have read) get things "stuck". But there is a way around that - chew more. Some banders (I know 2 personally) don't even get that full feeling. Bottom line, Lap Band patients need to work harder to lose weight. When I went to my appointment for pre-admission testing, my nutritionist said something that stuck. She told me to treat my "how to be successful with the Lap Band" book - like a bible - live it and breathe it - DO IT. Think of it as a new start. I am being given an opportunity to have what I have always wanted. Why would I mess it up? What would I do something that can possibly stop my dream of being healthy and "normal" from becoming a reality. I HAVE THE CONTROL. That stuck with me. I posted reminders around my house with the word CONTROL. That's what it is all about. The tool will be there, but it is ultimately on me. I know it is just too easy to eat the wrong things, especially for us - we have always been able to pig out and get away with it - while gaining weight. It may take more planning and regimens. I hate cooking too - my husband does most of it - but you may need to cook and plan more...it is probably a requirement. You will then have CONTROL over what you are eating. Planning will be important too. I know for a FACT I will need to plan my meals for the week and pack lunch everyday. I am an executive assistant and I pretty much pick up lunch and coffee for my team everyday. Without my "own meals" and snacks, it will be too easy to eat something bad. I refuse. Hang in there! I wish you success - I have been following your blog, you are doing really well! You are losing weight. I can't wait to be where you are. I have never been able to lose more than 20 pounds EVER! - at least with the band, we will achieve weight loss!! It will click - have faith. -
WOW! Thanks for a very positive story! I just said a prayer that my surgery goes as well as yours did!!

I think she is absoulutely adorable and isn't stick thin! She modeled for my favorite store - Torrid. She is a size 12 and loves her curves! And my dream outfit - size 12 (a 14, even!) designer jeans, a white t-shirt and peep toe pumps! :scared2: OK - who's next? :blushing:

Anyone not on a pre-op diet before surgery?
pinkdots410 replied to angelface's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went today for my pre-op testing and NO liquid diet for me! I just have to "watch what I eat and not gain weight"...pretty much - don't go on a last supper binge. Oh - and my BMI is 44. The day before my surgery, I have to be on full liquids and then nothing after midnight. I guess every surgeon is different. -
Great idea! Good Luck to everyone being banded TOMORROW!! WOW! Please take it easy at first - but be sure to log on ASAP to let us know how it went!!
-
May Firsters - good luck!!! Can't wait to hear how things are going!!!!

I went in today for my pre-admission testing and no pre-op diet for me either. I only have to "watch what I eat"...and not gain any weight. I was shocked that 5 months after my first appointment in November, I only gained .4 pounds. I knew for sure I would be up by at least 10, the way I have been pigging out! Anyway...I am kind of bummed - which my husband could not understand...I just want to get started.

Help me respond to friend's negativity...
pinkdots410 replied to Blund's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't it funny?? I have "friends" who respond in the same way and you know what's the funny part?? Only the overweight ones do. I have friends, colleagues and family members who aren't overweight and have nothing but positive things to say and well wishes! I say it has to be jealousy and envy. It's sad really... -
YAY!!! That is great news!! Sounds really promising!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
-
IMO - we could each have different names and I could care less! If you like another May name, use it! Create a signature and put it on your posts. I think if we would have "agreed" to a different name, I would have still went with "May Flowers". It's the rebel in me!:tongue_smilie:

UUUGGHH! What is with me eating any and everything I want to? This "Last Supper Syndrome" is NO joke! As soon as I got the approval and date, something inside of me just clicked. It's like I am trying t eat anything I can get my hands on, like I am running out of time! I have to try and remind myself that I have indulged way too long - which is why I am getting the Lap Band now, tipping the scale at almost 300 lbs! Hopefully this post can be motivation for us all to NOT go overboard with the eating and focus more on what's to come. Once we are banded we will still NEED to watch what we are putting into our mouths. It's not a magic wand to stop us from eating and magically get skinny. The cravings and temptations will still be there, we have to be STRONG. So...after the week long binge on carbs and sweets, I will start to get back on track. I will eat more veggies and Protein and drink nothing but Water. No more regular cokes and sugary juices. No more cheesecake, pie and ice cream. No more subs and french fries. :tt1: My face is so bloated and even chubbier than it used to be with all this bingeing. It is time to STOP! OK - who's with me?:frown:

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
pinkdots410 replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is very liberating! I will NOT miss: Having to pull my shirt down in the back and on the sides everytime I stand from my desk at work. Being deathly afraid of dying from a heart attack because of my high blood pressure. Having cankles. Having bruises from my bra digging into my skin. Having to wear support underwear from Lane Bryant or Spanx high falutant underwear EVERY DAY to contain some of the jelly rolls as much as possible. Shopping in Lane Bryant. Having a double chin and chubby face. Being bigger than my husband and feeling HUGE next to him and in pictures. - This is a BIG one - I get teary just thinking about it. Being the fattest person in a room, elevator, store, anywhere. Craving Doritos 24/7. Not being able to look cute wearing a leather strapped watch - as it squeezes the fat on my arm and makes red marks that itch. Being tired and making excuses for not doing an ounce of physical activity. Not being able to clean my house and keep it that way - without running out of energy. Eating lunch in my car so that people at work don't see me stuff my FAT face with crap that I shouldn't be eating. Looking huge in my car - not cute and "lady like" like I should. Not being able to wear my arms out in a sleevless top in the summer. And lastly - I WILL NOT miss - feeling FAT and HUGE, thinking about how I will go yet another summer fat and miserable every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year of my adult life. -
What to tell Job?
pinkdots410 replied to iseethinme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was dealing with this same thing: when to tell, what to tell...but you know what? I decided to tell my manager and team that I am getting Lap Band surgery and will be out for 2 weeks. period. I am not hiding it and it will be tough to keep the lie going when I start to lose the weight. When someone asks, I will PROUDLY tell them. Heck, they have seen me try every diet known to man and fail... but this time will be different. :smile2: I find it very liberating - I have let the weight hold my true feelings back for far too long - I am FAT and am doing something about it! They all see me everyday and know that I need to lose weight. I am proud that I took the step to save my life and live for my children. -
Thanks for starting this Jessica...I am scared too. Mostly of being put under and the pain...oh and the gas pains I have been reading about. I find comfort in knowing that there will be an entire group of people going through similar experiences. I just can't wait to be post-op already...not too much longer to go!

Glad to hear you made it through the pre-op testing Miles! I am not looking forward to April 30th, when I am scheduled for mine! Good thing it's first thing in the morning so I won't have to go too long on an empty stomach! I keep having thoughts that in the pre-op tets, they discover something that hinders the surgery and I get the bad news that I can't get the Lap Band! I guess I'm just getting anxious! I can't wait...May 19th can't get here soon enough!
