  1. Thanks @NancyNYC my mind is pretty made up that WLS is my path right now. I'm sorry things are going so rough for you! Hopefully things will start evening out for you soon. Sending you good thoughts.
  2. I started with a personal trainer last week and against my better judgment I told her what I was doing (RNY in May). First she blurted out, "some of my friends' moms have gotten that done!" and then made some reference to having heard "horror stories." Ultimately she got on board with my plan but her first reaction strengthened my resolve not to go around telling people willy nilly. Besides her I have told my kids, their dad, and my best friend. That's it. I'm not in the habit of discussing my weight with my coworkers or my larger circle of acquaintances anyway.
  3. Me three on the clothing. I have a bunch of cute stuff from smaller times that I really want to get back into. Plus I love vintage-inspired stuff which just looks better on a slimmer figure. I'm also looking forward to being back in shape. Five years/90 pounds ago I ran a half marathon and I'm dying to be that fit and active again!

    Please help! I'm nervous....

I got mine off the Premier website but I also heard you can get them at some Costcos. They are so yummy imo.

    Pre op weight loss stall

I don't necessarily have any tips for you but I'm in the exact same boat. I'm supposed to lose a certain amount before my pre op appointment May 12 and I've been doing everything right yet I've remained stuck right around the same weight for over a week. I guess under regular circumstances that would be a fairly normal weight loss plateau but I'm on a deadline here. These last five pounds are killing me. It's so stressful and frustrating!

I think the caramel Premier is the best Premier and I'm fully prepared to fight anyone who says otherwise!

    Apps

I haven't really used it yet since I'm pre op but I downloaded Baritastic
  8. That's great that you cut out soda altogether. That is so good for your health. Don't skip breakfast though, that throws your metabolism off and you just wind up super hungry and overeating at the end of the day. For an app I like Lose It, it's similar to My Fitness Pal but I just like it better for whatever reason.
  9. I've belonged to another online community about a specific interest for years and you see all the same types of stuff. About every 2-3 years a big chunk of people packs up and goes off in a huff to form a new group somewhere else. It's the ciiiiiiiircle of liiiiiife. Meanwhile I'm freaking out about my surgery (not until May 22) so this is a nice distraction.
  10. I don't know, I'm pretty new here but I've hung around all kinds of forums and so far the type of drama (aka people getting on each other's nerves) I've observed here is pretty typical of what you will find wherever you go. A mix of many different personality types coming together around a very personal issue means that some people will rub others the wrong way. Tough talkers that don't cater to others' sensitive feelings, veterans vs. newbies, chronic cheerleaders, people winding up getting banned, people aligning with others against perceived outsiders, you find that stuff everywhere.

I gotcha, I was just playing around. My surgery date isn't until May 22 and I'm DYING of impatience.

    Other people

I have to agree. Ten years ago I was a size six and I was regarded very differently than I am now at size 24. People do sometimes act as if you don't exist. I'm a pretty friendly person so I often find that if I smile at someone or say hi it's fine but just walking through the world is very different when you're larger. People avert their gazes and it feels awkward. At least that's been my experience. It's possible OP just went to a very snotty church!

Well, I had lost about 10 pounds while in Options. The bariatric doc, who I saw in December, was fine with that. But what with the holidays and all, the scale was showing I'd gained five of it back by January when I saw the surgeon. So he instructed me to lose 10 more to shrink my liver. Altogether that would put me at around 5% as well. So far I've lost six of the 10. Four more to go before my consult May 12. I'm on track to do it I think.

I'm going through Kaiser (having it done at WLA). I finished Options at the end of last November. I saw the surgeon in January but didn't get my surgery date (which is 5/22) until late March. But I went to the support group last week and someone I had Options with had already had her sleeve done at the beginning of March. So...it varies? I think I might have experienced a delay because in January the surgeon told me to lose 10 more pounds. But generally they're scheduling at least a few months out from the initial consultation. Are you doing your classes at Playa Vista?

    Pre-Op Clearances

I just had an EKG and chest x-ray; neither of them seemed invasive to me. What DID strike me as invasive was the stool sample I had to provide, yuck.
  17. I have Kaiser, and the requirements were a history of unsuccessful weight loss attempts (check!), a high enough BMI (can't remember what specifically since I for sure qualified at 50), completion of a 12 week educational course, psychiatric clearance, chest x-ray and EKG, and a lot of labs. They also want you to lose 10 percent of your body weight but I learned from the surgeon they're not super strict on it, my surgeon said to just lose 10 or so pounds to shrink my liver and that was it. All the requirements make sense, though it's been frustrating how long everything has taken. I first made the decision to move forward with it last June; my surgery is (finally!) scheduled for 5/22/17. The longest delay was between my initial surgical consult in January until the end of March, which is when they finally got around to scheduling me.

Sure, let's keep in touch. We can be WLS buddies! If I can figure out the PM system I'll send you my email. I was super confident in my choice (RNY) for the last six months but I literally JUST read a comment someone posted that made me start questioning myself. Lol, this is all so stressful.

    My 600 lb life

I just watched this one yesterday (actually I watched Parts 1 AND 2). It was intense! It made me grateful that overeating is the only problem I have to worry about. I don't know what I would do with myself if I had both a food problem and an addiction to opiates.

I'm on the Westside (Culver City). I was hoping there might be some people local to me on here. I'm getting a gastric bypass May 22, how about you?

    Pre op diet fails!

I am on a pre-op diet too. I'm thinking of it as practice for the changes I'll have to make. I don't know about your situation but in my case the weight loss is to shrink my liver so that I can have a smoother, safer surgery. My doc showed me pics of how doing the surgery looks with a plumped up liver vs. one where the pt lost weight and trust me, if this is your situation also you want to give your surgeon a straight shot, not a chubby fatty liver getting in the way. Weirdly I haven't been having any cravings (unusual for me) but if I were to I would just remind myself I want to set myself up for the best possible surgical outcome.

    May surgeries

I'm May 22! Per my surgeon's instructions at the initial consult I have to lose about five more pounds before my pre op appointment May 12 but I've been losing weight at a good clip so I'm not worried. It's great prep for the post-surgical changes since I'm mostly doing liquid protein. My biggest concern is what to tell people at work. I'll be out for 4-5 weeks and then come back and (hopefully) be losing significant amounts of weight. I want to keep it private but am worried everyone will guess...
