It really is better that do all these tests and figure everything out pre-op. The post op diet is rough on the system so best to get it right. I'm pretty happy that I've been poked, prodded, scanned, monitored and zapped from head to toe. Kind of like my 50,000 mi maintenance
-
Have you discussed this with your surgeon? Depending on why you have GERD, he/she may recommend bypass surgery instead. I did not have GERD prior to surgery, had wicked wicked heartburn within 2 weeks but discovered it was due to lactose sensitivity. Since reducing my milk product intake, I have had zero problems
-
Okay, Sarah. I'm officially jealous. Congrats! I'm holding at my 7 lb post op weight loss in a month. I think it's pathetic.
-
I'd say don't do liquids. You're going to be on liquids, purees and mush for weeks and weeks. Just eat sensibly now.
-
Wow, I'll have to talk to my PCP about lowering mine. I ballooned for 3 yrs prior to diagnosis and could not lose to save my life. Even now, I have lost 7 lbs in the month after surgery....so frustrating

I had surgery on Thursday and went back to work Monday. My surgery was exceptionally easy though. Even if you have a rougher gomof it, 10 days should be plenty

Do I need a wheelchair... what about protein for flights?

Biginjapan is exactly right. I felt fine, like nothing had happened and was working on Day 4 after surgery. Others are down for the count so you'll have to wait to see how yours goes. One shake in 6 hrs is plenty. You can only sip anyway. -

Prevention of sagging skin workouts???
JaelVSG replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Fitness & Exercise
If you can use free weights, there are many many exercises for your arms than can help minimize the appearance of loose skin but can't work miracles -
Most of those requirements are insurance company requirements.

Always, Norcali. I successfully lost huge amounts of weight several times, each time gaining it back plus 30. As I was gaining, I was utterly helpless. I simply couldn't stop the gains. Ravenous hunger, compulsion to eat more no matter what. I kept little food at home to make myself drive to get extra food. I'd drive, no problem. Anyway, this time the weight started disabling me so, for me, it was last resort time and I chose VSG because of the reset and the hunger control element. If you are going for lap band, you need to look into that. I believe it is only a restriction with no metabolic change. The approval process is a pain in the butt but it's generally valuable. There's so much to know it just takes months to soak it all in. If you're ready to lose, it's a great tool.

Norcali, if you are happy with your weight loss without surgery, then by all means don't get it. For many of us, we could starve down to a weight only to have our bodies drive us back over a set point, the dreaded regain plus. Although the exact mechanisms aren't fully understood yet, VSG alters the body's set point and, by removing a main ghrelin producer, disrupts hunger centers. yes, caloric intake is lower. That's how all people lose weight. The biggest difference is you are hopefully not whiteknuckling it through the day while eating less. As for the suggestions to eat sugar free puddings, those are merely suggestions, not requirements. I did not eat them bc I hate fake sweet (not really a sweet fan, anyway). A good bariatric center works with you to tailor the nutrition to you. It sounds like you just like how you are so congrats and be well.

Will I be able to keep working
JaelVSG replied to Imortalcandy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You won't be able to chug fluids post surgery. You physically can't. Unless you can find some times to sip during the 10 hours, you'll have to spend your off time sipping full time
